Sass4 Posted November 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Or is it like if you don't answer they moved down the line and offer it to some one else? I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the phone number so I was just wondering...
Kamloops50 Posted November 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2015 They usually email you or your TA. Near received a call for an upgrade .
CVU Posted November 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Had a phone call for our 1 and only Upgrade years ago. We do not use a TA.
cruisenfever Posted November 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2015 They usually email you or your TA. Near received a call for an upgrade . The few upgrades that we have been offered were always by phone and if we were not home we were given 30 minutes to return the call. I've never heard of Revenue/C&A sending an email in regards to an upgrade.

Scotty G Posted November 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2015 We were upgraded for our Freedom cruise Sunday. No one contacted us or our TA. I was checking something in the reservation online and noticed it. Contacted the TA to get new edocs so luggage tags are correct. This was 2 -3 weeks ago. Previous upgrades either we or the TA was called. A couple of times we were upgraded at the port with no notice since they were because of last minute cancellations. Summerknight Posted November 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Royal left a message for us to call them. We use a TA. When we called them back, they asked if we would like a free upgrade from promenade to balcony.

We did have our profile set for an automatic upgrade for that cruise...I guess it worked, we haven't gotten once since! ;) BTW...love the new grand kids picture! :) ***

jackinav Posted November 5, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 5, 2015 We've had two upgrades and never had an e-mail or phone call. That's fine by me because I love the U.F. regardless!:)
Kamloops50 Posted November 5, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Usually they call for up sells and give you a date that the upsell expires.

Mark-Sheffield Posted November 15, 2015 #16 Share Posted November 15, 2015 It must be a very welcome surprise to receive an upgrade. Never happened to us either with RCI or P&O. But we keep hoping.
Big_G Posted November 15, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 15, 2015 We received one upgrade many moons ago and were never notified until checking in at the pier. We have received calls from the Upsell Fairy but we've yet to take advantage of one.
chotton Posted November 16, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 16, 2015 The upgrade fairy doesn't exist. Or she has skipped us over in all the cruise we have done RCCL.
Aboat1 Posted November 16, 2015 #19 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Not only have I not heard from the upgrade fairy.....RCCL has never sent me any email! I have only signed up about 7 times. Been cruising many years.
RVfromAZ Posted November 16, 2015 #20 Share Posted November 16, 2015 We were upgraded on our last cruise from an Oceanview to a Balcony. We were notified by an Email that stated "Notification of Change", it was new documents with the change! We were thrilled! I did have my preferences checked to upgrade. So yes there is an upgrade fairy!

So yes there is an upgrade fairy! We would have been thrilled as well. From a business point of view, they must do free upgrades after they have exhausted the upsell route ? This must be to sell less expensive cabins after they have move booked passengers up the grades ?
Bobal Posted November 16, 2015 #23 Share Posted November 16, 2015 We've been upgraded 3 times. Each time we only found out when we logged into our account not via email either to us or to our TA - once was 10 days before sailing and twice was 2 days before sailing. :)
Rare WrittenOnYourHeart Posted November 16, 2015 #24 Share Posted November 16, 2015 We were upgraded on our last cruise from an Oceanview to a Balcony. We were notified by an Email that stated "Notification of Change", it was new documents with the change! We were thrilled! I did have my preferences checked to upgrade. So yes there is an upgrade fairy! I would set my preferences to upgrade, but... I do like that they have the "only if it is my deck or higher" option, but I wish they also had an option of "only in my selected section (forward/mid/aft) of the ship" as while I would love an upgrade, I LOVE the forward section of the ship - to me, mid-ship or aft-ship is NOT an upgrade. I would be happy to be upgraded to a balcony in the forward section, but NOT further back. Ergo, I'll just be sticking with my forward-facing ocean view (unless the fairy overrides my "I do not desire an upgrade" checkmark).
rubrrick Posted November 16, 2015 #25 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Over the years, we have received free upgrades. We have received phone calls, emails, or no notification till we reached the pier. I don't believe that there is one set pattern to how one might receive a free upgrade. Rick
