You don't say what time your ship arrives at Civitavecchia.

The 12:50 flight should be fine as most ships arrive pretty early. You should ideally plan to have not less than 3 hours at the airport, and it takes about an hour to get their from the port by car.

Until the reconstruction work on T3 is completed, anyone needing to use T5 must absolutely be there no less than three hours prior to a flight ... even more if possible.

As of last week several additional airlines are using T5 during the construction, causing huge backups. Folks on Trip Advisor reported arriving three hours prior to their flight and still missing it because of the long lines at T5.

This is just a temporary situation and it should all be resolved before next spring's cruising season but for those departing from FCO this winter, you are forewarned.

Yikes -- any word when it should be resolved? I'm heading into Rome again in April.

I will add a few T5 remarks onto Euro's excellent info. T5 is a somewhat remote terminal (from the other Terminals (1,2 and what is left of 3). If you take a private transfer such as from Romecabs (we like these folks) they will drop you right at the door of T5. But many cruise ships transfers will only drop you around T2 or T3 which means you then have to take the shuttle bus (along with your luggage) out to T5. T5 has long been used for check-ins for North American flights and has a higher security standard then found at the other terminal check-ins. But one laughable issue is that once you are cleared through T5 you will be (or at used to be) bused back to the main terminals where you are free to mix with everyone else who has not undergone such a high level of security. Go figure. But it is ITALY :).

Just returned last Wednesday using Romecabs for transfer from Civitavecchia to FCO. We were picked up at 7:30am and it took less than 1 hour to drop us off at the airport. We cruise line transfers arrived about one hour after us. One couple departed from terminal 3 and the pother from T 5.

We flew out of T5 2 weeks ago and arrived at the airport at 8:30am for a 12:30pm flight. We were flying on Air Canada who normally use T3, but due to the fire had relocated to T5.

The airport workers wouldn't even allow us into the terminal until 3 hours before our flight; therefore, arriving earlier than 3 hours could result in having to stand outside until they let you in.

Roma FCO airport is pretty chaotic currently after the fire in Terminal 3. Everyting that goes wrong in all the other terminals is also blamed in typical Italian fashion on the fire in Terminal 3 .

On the other hand Milano Malpensa (MXP) has had a major upgrade Internationally and is a breeze to fly in and out of now .

We avoid FCO if we can, thirty planes in the queue at lunchtime waiting to take off !!!
