Oxo Posted December 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2015 Just got off of the Regal and noticed a couple of items that I believe could be improved for all guests. I noticed this on the first and second day of the cruise. The Passenger Service desk was lined up because people wanted: 1. their Cruise Card to be punched so they could put it on a lanyard.. I suggested to Passenger Services that they should either provide a punch in that area so people could punch their own hole in their cruise card or have them pre-punched. The comment was that not all people want their cards punched. If the cards came pre-punched, I don’t believe people would care. 2. help to log-on to WiFi and the Internet. Understand what the difference is between WiFi and Internet. Although Princess does provide a four page Satellite Internet booklet, it is not very clear for those who may not understand how to set up the WiFi and Internet on their phone, tablet, etc. This was very obvious after seeing lines of people daily trying to get the IT person to setup their device. The booklet is mainly a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document. What it should contain is a Step by Step illustration of how to connect to the WiFi and Internet. It should describe what HOME, INTERNET, MESSAGE and MORE contain and how to use them. There are a lot of options and they are not discussed. I have seen the IT Person individually setting up a device for passengers daily and even passengers asking the Passenger Service desk to help them. This is something that could be spelled out and described, rather than trying to setup a person’s individual phone, tablet or laptop. Another big question was if we use WiFi to check my account or see events is that free? Will that count against our Internet minutes?
floridalover5623 Posted December 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2015 If they had a self service punch I'd bet a good number would wind up punching the magnetic strip. The internet personal were very helpful to everyone on out trips explaining how to setup & use the new system. This was evident as the lines were almost nonexistent by the 2nd or 3rd day into the cruise. Once you connect to the system the only time internet minutes are used is when you choose "connect to the internet" otherwise there is no charge to use the system

So, we cannot accommodate everyone. Yes, the IT person was very helpful, but too many people trying to find answers to questions that should be presented in that booklet. You and I know what you said, but there were so many that asked the same questions over and over at two different locations on the ship.
Oxo Posted December 16, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted December 16, 2015 How about a class on the first or second day..."How to use the WiFi and internet". That would be a very good idea, too! This way people could attend and setup their device. Thanks for your idea!!!

Oxo Posted December 16, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted December 16, 2015 If that's all you have to complain about id consider it a great cruise! :D If you are joking, I accept that. If not, who said I was complying? Why do people think if you make a suggestion, you are complaining? I have an educational background and believe in trying to educate people and help people by proper training. Apparently you come from a different background, What is it? baronessk Posted December 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2015 If you can have a table selling soda cards, why not have a table punching cards and selling lanyards? Personally, I bring a small punch with me and do ours. I agree on a class on the internet, but how sad that 10 years ago, people went on a cruise and could get away. Now, everyone still has to be checking e-mail, social media, etc. Personally one of the biggest reasons I cruise is to GET AWAY.

Oxo Posted December 16, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted December 16, 2015 Princess should just order cards that are pre punched. That was my original recommendation to Passenger Services. They felt many people save their cards and don't want holes in them. LOL
ChaserX Posted December 16, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2015 How about a class on the first or second day..."How to use the WiFi and internet". Or how about putting that info on one of the TV channels? Unless there was an outcry, maybe replace an episode or so about the wonders of tanzanite or ammolite? LOL Personally, I have no interest in hanging a cruise card around my neck, it's not in my gene pool. However, I have no negative opinion re a hole being pre punched in my card.....but it would likely be an extra expense for Princess.

mammajamma2013 Posted December 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 16, 2015 This is probably silly, but I don't want my card punched. You can get an un-punched card punched, but you can't get a punched card un-punched. I like mine without holes.

mammajamma2013 Posted December 16, 2015 #18 Share Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) Can you please give us 1 reason why you would not want your card punched? It looks "newer" to me. I'm one that keeps my cruise cards (all three of them!) and I like "unmarred" cards. As I said, it's probably silly, but that's what I prefer. It's an aesthetic thing. I also don't wear my card around my neck, so two reasons for the price of one. Edited December 16, 2015 by mammajamma2013 to add a line

I have 52 unpunched cards. Maybe I should list them on Ebay. Interested? I'm joking about Ebay.
UpcountryTravelers Posted December 16, 2015 #20 Share Posted December 16, 2015 Princess should just order cards that are pre punched. No NO NO, please. I keep my past cards in an album to remember my many wonderful cruises! PLEASE do not massacre them! And, by my observation, the Princess passengers who use the lanyards are definitely in the minority.
Oxo Posted December 16, 2015 Author #21 Share Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) So, let the voting begin. do we punch or not????? I personally thought that the Internet would be a more important subject. That would help more people than a hole in a piece of plastic. Cruisin' Chick Posted December 17, 2015 #25 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Personally I prefer an unpunched card. I use a plastic sleeve attached to a lanyard. If someone wants to get theirs punched, they can bring a small punch or go to the casino and they'll do it for you. I seriously doubt that the lines at the passenger services desk the first day or two are passengers who want a hole in their cards. As for Internet vs wifi...on our most recent cruise exactly three years ago, we did buy an Internet package pre-cruise. We were sent the receipt but not instructions of how to utiltize this in the Internet Cafe. When my daughter went to the Cafe, she was told we would have to re-purchase the package (getting reimburse so not going to cost us more) in order to use it. That seemed very ridiculous to us and hopefully that got changed in the few years since. We should have been given a sheet of simple instructions and our initial password that we can just go in, sit down at a computer, and use immediately. Maybe a video on the in-cabin TV can be put into the mix of the various promotional videos that are shown (it might even help sell the package), but I prefer to get step by step written instructions. Of course, as some have said, many passengers do unplug on cruises (we bought the package this time so that our teen will have another fun thing to do, but I usually used it to check my email so I won't have to wade through a zillion when I got home -- other than that, I would rather play trivia).
