LRnascarfan Posted January 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2016 Does anyone know if Carnival still stashes lanyards in the slot trays in the casino on the first day? I know you use to could go to the casino on embarkation day and get a free lanyard out of the slot trays. Thanks!! Kim H.

Are you talking about the curly-thingies with clip on end to attached to you S&S card after it's punched? If so, yes, there will be someone in the casino walking around with a punch & a bunch of lanyards.
SadieN Posted January 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 1, 2016 No longer in the slot trays. You get them from a Casino person or at the Cage.
LRnascarfan Posted January 1, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted January 1, 2016 No, not those. They use to put freebies in the slot trays the first day, just regular lanyards to carry your key card in etc. Thanks, Kim

In our 14 cruises on CCL since 2003, I've never seen any of lanyards that you are mentioning. The only ones I saw were for purchase in the gift shop. LRnascarfan Posted January 1, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted January 1, 2016 Its been a long time since my cruise on carnival so maybe they downgraded from the regular lanyards to the coiled ones now. I think it was maybe 1999 or 2000 when I last sailed on carnival!!

wannagonow123 Posted January 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Holland America just recently stopped handing out any lanyards, coiled or regular to get folks to purchase them in gift shops. Luckily, we had some old ones in our suitcases, and my stapler has a punch. Anything to make money.

Jana60 Posted January 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Never heard of this and i've been around since close to then.. only ever saw the coiled casino clips. The casino gives away the coiled lanyards and it wouldn't make sense for them to give away any other kind since the point is to be able to keep your card attached to you even while you are also putting it in the slot machines. As far as I know they have never given away any non-stretchy lanyards. Edited January 2, 2016 by Jana60

As far as I know they have never given away any non-stretchy lanyards. My "premier" S&S card holder or "lanyard" is some kind of cloth, so it's not stretchy material. It was given out right after sail away to all who booked a casino fare. It made it easy for casino staff to immediately identify those with DOU perks. AprilJ Posted January 2, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Do most buy lanyards prior to the cruise or wait and get them on the ship? Going to check Amazon!
shellsd Posted January 2, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Do most buy lanyards prior to the cruise or wait and get them on the ship? Going to check Amazon! I always bring the ones we got for disney pin trading but we usually wind up using the free coil ones. I am not sure why
RedDraw Posted January 2, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Do most buy lanyards prior to the cruise or wait and get them on the ship? Going to check Amazon! That's what I did. 24 for $6.99. We have a large group going on our trip so I bought 2 boxes. Any we don't use I can give away at work for our badges there.
beachbum53 Posted January 2, 2016 #18 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Can you please post a picture? coiled or not? The free lanyards in the casino look like this: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y286/denewitt/DSCN1277.jpg The color may vary, usually red or blue. beachbum53 Posted January 2, 2016 #19 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Do most buy lanyards prior to the cruise or wait and get them on the ship? Going to check Amazon! No need to order them from Amazon, unless you're after something specific. Lowes, Home Depot and some hardware stores sell lanyards, typically near where keys are made. You can also find lanyards at Walmart, and at many sporting goods stores.

Thank you. The typical ones given away at our local casinos or in Las Vegas. I prefer the coiled key chain one like this: http://www.amazon.com/Coil-Bracelet-Keychains-different-colors/dp/B00443T6RC I bought seat of 2 at Walmart for like $3. My DH just likes the normal lanyard you can get any-were. We originally got ours on our first cruise in the gift shop.
sewut Posted January 2, 2016 #21 Share Posted January 2, 2016 You can buy a lanyard right here on Cruise Critic! We got them for free when we booked a CC sponsored group cruise. They have cruise critic printed on them, and have a key ring to keep your punched card safe. The thing I like about them is that they have a buckle so that you can quickly take off the card to purchase things or doink on and off the ship. crusinpsychRN Posted January 2, 2016 #22 Share Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Years ago I got a free lanyard from Carnival, got another after spending $59 for Behind the Fun tour. They sell them now in the gift shop. Hope they start punching holes like the person said on Magic. It is so hard to punch them! Even got a new puncher, worked great once, now I have to find a strong guy like Captain Carnival to punch my card. Some people think a lanyard is as bad as a fanny pack. I have one of those too! KPfromCT Posted January 2, 2016 #24 Share Posted January 2, 2016 The gift shop always has them on sale the first night of the sailing for like 499 each. They are nice. :D Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
kc58ab Posted January 2, 2016 #25 Share Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Open your eyes. Free lanyards have been and are still available As others have mentioned you can get a coiled lanyard free in the casino by just asking at the cage. We got our whole party one (must be present) May 2015 on the Freedom and we didn't even have to use the casino to get it. They had red, blue, purple, and black.
