A$ to US$

Recommended Posts

I have just read on another page that RCI have altered their OBC pre purchase rate to .71 as of this week. Just a heads up, it has been confirmed by several people today.

It was bound to change sometime. It is still not bad considering the AUD has dropped below the 70c mark today, so to buy it as cash would be around 67 cents roughly. I like to lock in my spending budget before I get on a cruise, as well as the fact that they can take a few days to process your credit card bill at the end. So you can really be getting a bit of a surprise.

Really appreciate the info that people posted about this over time. :)

Ummmmm Dinner for 2 in one of the specialty restaurants is my guess. I think they were charging about $50 for Monaro last year so pretty good value if you like it.

Also what Century Class (all gone I think).

I know dinner, [emoji13] but it doesn't say which venue or for 2pax so I wasn't sure as there was a price variation between the 3 specialty restaurants last month on solstice... Was hoping someone has purchased It before and knew [emoji5]️

Recipient's choice of restaurant. That's why they refer to the $35 cover charge refund.

What happens with left over credit when you buy on board credit for Princess Cruises on not from Australia cruises?

If it is non refundable OBC, the remainder is lost.

If it is refundable OBC, the remainder is refunded to the credit card for the on board account.

My advice spend the Non refundable OBC (it is supposed to be used first anyway).

What happens if you have bought on board credit and have not spent all the money while on a cruise that is in USD. Can you get USD refunded if you have already bought USD. I am planning on buying more USD than I think I will spend but I want to make sure that I can get the unused portion refunded thanks for any help. I will be on the Diamond Princess leave Australia in March and she has converted back to USD then

Perhaps buy some Casino credit instead as this is easier to cash out.:D

Unfortunately we've just missed out on the higher rate. Yes, the Celebrity websitge still shows $32.40 for the gift certificates. Purchased 4 on the weekend to see what would happen. As of confirmation received this morning, price has gone up. What would have been $129 Au is now $139 Au. Also the drink packages have gone up across the board by a few dollars

Bummer, never mind swings and roundabouts.

That's a bit rough.

But typical of their web site.

We have a 2017 Alaska booking showing $140Aud for $100US. Eek! Think I will have to plant a money tree for that one.

Come to think of it, the .90 rate on our next cruise is as good as a money tree, We have topped up the OBC and casino credits and will add some more in a few weeks if the rate is unchanged.

  • 2 months later...

Well we haven't had much to cheer about when it comes to the exchange rate with the US$ in recent times - but have to say I'm liking the current appreciation in the value of the A$ - I think it's actually more the decline of the US$

The move to around 75c is great and I've actually paid for one cruise, which Crystal charge for in US$, now rather than wait for the due date to lock in the current rate - with the approx. 6% improvement in recent days I just couldn't resist locking it in before the Reserve Bank do something to drive it down

Of course that virtually guarantees that the A$ will continue to appreciate now that I've paid ;) - but I'll just have to live with that if it happens - I have plenty more cruises I still need to pay for...

Anyone else taking advantage of the current exchange rate?

Just came across an old memo, dated 6 December, 2000, stating "the Aussie battler is rallying at 54cUS".

76cUS is looking good!

But I also ave one here showing $1.07 I can't read the date it's on that thermal rubbish, but must be about 2011 or thereabouts.

Great work, I hope it does improve but really cannot see that it will go much higher. Time will tell. Only a few months ago it was looking like hitting $0.65 USD.:(

Frame that one - can't see us getting back to that

(But I'd be delighted to be proven wrong ;))

Like wise, It would have been 2013 I think and I bought $1,000 USD at $1.1046 from a exchange on George street. At the time my brother said I should wait, two months later he said I should have bought $10,000 worth.

Graph 1 shows for the period since December 1983 the average monthly price in US dollars of the Australian dollar.

Recent exchange rates

The graph shows that from a low of around 49 US cents to the dollar during 2001, the value of the Australian dollar has gradually increased to a current value above 70 US cents.
