ceight Posted January 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of kids. To be quite honest, I'm incredibly awkward around them and just...prefer not to interact. Nothing against y'all with kids...just not my thing. Please keep raising future (hopefully) respectable adults. :) My husband and I will be on the Splendor in Feb and have been on the Conquest twice before. I LOVE the AO pool area. On a side note, is this something most lines offer? I'm a little terrified Carnival will take this away eventually as they strive to be a more family-friendly line. Mytime2014 Posted January 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2016 it will be my first Carnival cruise - but the adult only area makes me happy. I like my own child [now that he's an adult!] but not many others!!
Laurie S. Posted January 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Wish there were more areas, and that the age restrictions were enforced better.
summersigh Posted January 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) Even Disney has adult only areas aboard :D so I'd guess CCL wouldn't get rid of theirs any time soon. I would assume too that during the normal school year the line would have to count heavily on adults without kids to "stay afloat" Edited January 26, 2016 by summersigh
HawkIVette Posted January 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I don't think they will get rid of the Adult areas as they seem to be adding them to the newer ships with the Serenity Area. I know that Serenity really doesn't have pool areas, but are bigger areas that restrict kids from being there.
Trumpster Posted January 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) No to the original question, I certainly dont like Carnival for adult only areas, other lines are more adult friendly and I like those lines better for adult only areas. At least Carnival nominally tries given its already large family friendly business model. Serenity and the spa are the only place carnival enforces such edicts, on some ships the gym as well. Not likely to get rid of them, why should they. They are more likely to start charging for them. Some other lines charge for such areas and some are limited in size, others are first come first served type areas. lisajm Posted January 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I enjoy the adult only areas.(when they are enforced) I love kids, but don't enjoy the running and splashing etc while I am relaxing by the pool. OP you may wish to consider a Havana cabin on the Vista. No children under the age of 12 and a private pool area for those who booked these rooms. I do know that some of Royal Caribbean's ships have "adults only" areas too. The problem, on any line, is having enough staff on hand to enforce the policy. We were on an RCL cruise several years ago, in February. There was a school district somewhere on the East coast ( New York, I think) that had an early Spring Break. There were kids running around everywhere. In the "adults only" hot tub area, underfoot in the casino. It was a zoo! The poor staff looked like some of them were ready to abandon ship. If you want to avoid children as much as possible on your cruise, book your cruise at a time of year when there will be as few children on board as possible. golfb4cruzing Posted January 26, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2016 They all have them. They all enforce them differently. Carnival is loose with all their rules. The only other knowledge I have is of Princess and if it's Adult Only, that's how they keep it.
cruzn buckeye Posted January 26, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Not all ships have adult only pools... which is why I don't care to book on them. My favorite ccl ship is the liberty . the back pool is adult only... unfortuneatly it is ported in San Juan now.

In fact, I think the adult areas on other cruise lines are much nicer than Carnival's. By far, the best are the multi-level adults only Solariums on Royal Caribbean's Oasis and Quantum Classes. cruzeluver Posted January 26, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Agreed that this is a strange reason to like Carnival. Most lines have adult-only spaces and tend to enforce that policy better than Carnival, at least in my experience.
17andacruiseaddict Posted January 26, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I love cruising Carnival but with all due respect (to you and to Carnival), they have nothing on other cruise lines. RCCL's adults only pool area is nice and relaxing. Disney goes all out by not only a pool area, but bar areas and restaurants for only adults. And other cruise lines cater to more adults in general. I wish Carnival would get a bit of their ideas from Disney and have more adults only secluded areas. But if Serenity is all they really offer for now (and adults only pools on some ships), I'm happy with it. No, they will not be taking it away. Based on what I and others have said, the competition has adults only areas so clearly Carnival can't do away with theirs. But there is definitely room for improvement. Sweet Dutch Girl Posted January 26, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 26, 2016 "Adults Only" is such a misnomer. Who says a 21 year old is any more adult than a 16 year old...sometimes they are exponentially less so. And, after viewing enough "hairy chest contests" to last a lifetime I am also suspect of 40 year olds, both men and women. I've seen as many unruly "adults" on a ship as I have unruly "children". Maybe if they make the "adult" areas for those over 80 they may actually get the peace and quiet and decorum that some people crave.'' If someone wants an adult only experience sail to Hawaii. The average age is 70 plus. But watch out for the scooters....my shins will never be the same.

My wife and I cruise as our one time a year to have a vacation from our children. I can more easily deal with a drunk 21 year old as opposed to a 11 or 12 year old whose parents don't pay them any attention and they run all over the ship unsupervised and frankly make it less enjoyable for everybody. I have seen both sides of kids. I have seen those who behave and act like humans and I have seen those who don't think they need to follow any rules such as line cutting at Lido, throwing their ice cream down in elevators or simply running and yelling up and down the hall. You wouldn't find so much anti-child sentiment if parents took care of their kids.
RiotAct Posted January 26, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I like the Adult-Only areas, but I wouldn't say I like Carnival BECAUSE of them.
Sweet Dutch Girl Posted January 26, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 26, 2016 You wouldn't find so much anti-child sentiment if parents took care of their kids. And who "takes care" of the adults who act like children. Line cutting isn't just a child's activity. Elevator etiquette often doesn't exist on ANY elevator no matter the age of the passengers. Many adults can be loud, obnoxious, self-centered, self-absorbed to the point they don't even recognize that they are traveling with 3000 other people. I think kids and parents get a bad rap. Sure there are obnoxious and unsupervised kids...but, at least in my experience, they are a minority....unruly adults, on some cruises, can be a vast majority. YMMV

98Charlie Posted January 26, 2016 #20 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I like the AO areas too. I don't book Carnival just for that because, as stated before, most main line ships have them. We cruise in the off seasons and don't run in to a lot of children. Most have been well behaved and there has been no problem with them in the AO areas on our cruises. We do often find the AO whirlpools jammed with groups. But that is a supply and demand thing. I think you see more kids running amok than adults misbehaving because IMHO security steps in a lot quicker on an adult situation. Charlie
maldenmusic Posted January 26, 2016 #21 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I like the adult only areas when Carnival enforces them. Several times we've been in the Serenity Area and there were kids in the hot tub. There were also employees back there handing out towels who clearly saw the kids but did nothing about it until people complained.

So, I think my experience with carnival is different than most. I actually have never been on a ship with a serenity area. That's not necessarily what I'm in to. I just love the adult poll//hot tub area. I don't particularly care about the loungers oddly enough. Seems like I've just been lucky from most of these responses. I'm sure other lines have awesome AO areas, but man, hard to beat Carnival prices.
nanwel Posted January 27, 2016 #23 Share Posted January 27, 2016 RC have adult only ships - just going on my first Carnival, so no experience on it yet - do not mind the kids - it is the parents - that cannot or will not control their kids I have a problem with. And diapers in adult pools = please enforce the NO rule for them. People feel they can do whatever they want - in all things - we paid our $ do what ever. Hard to enforce -they do not want to make paying passengers mad. But sadly, they do not think about the ones that have no kids that that are not happy. Found all pools in Asia full of kids - all the time - they would not leave even when asked.

laurien Posted January 27, 2016 #25 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Personally , i'm happy with serenity area for adults . Have been on two other lines Princess And Celebrity where there was a charge to use that outside area . Although , Celebrity did have a lovely adult area -inside with a pool which was no charge. If children bother you try a transatlantic cruise only 7 children on the whole ship ! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
