cwbabe48 Posted February 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2016 After reading the entire thread on the Anthem of the Seas Storm, I am wondering if Celebrity follows suite and does not have the life jackets in the state rooms, but has them at the muster stations. Can anyone give a true answer, Silhouette for now? Thanks
neverbeenhere Posted February 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Celebrity has them at both locations.
Christine Frances Posted February 8, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Every Celebrity ship I have been on has had life jackets in the stateroom as well as in cabinets on the deck by the lifeboats. On Celebrity the muster stations are inside the ship and in case of an emergency the crew will take you to your lifeboat. It's good to have life jackets in both locations because it is sometimes too dangerous to go back to your cabin to get them. 9876 Posted February 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Thanks for the post. I think all cruise lines need to invest in double the life jackets per ship. They should have one per passenger in both the cabins and the muster stations. It should be required by the governing power. Personally, I would not have wanted to be told to stay in my room with that kind of weather with no life jacket.
wwcruisers Posted February 8, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2016 It's my understanding that neither Oasis nor Quantum Class ships have life jackets in the staterooms. When we used to cruise RC (we cruised every class up through Freedom) they always had them in the cabins, as well as in storage areas throughout the ship -- like X does. I do find myself wondering whether they will be included in the cabins, in the design of the new Edge-Class ships?

If they don't have life jackets in the cabins you would think that policy would be Coast Guard approved.
neverbeenhere Posted February 8, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2016 http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/csncoe/publicaffairs.asp How many and what type of life jackets are required to be carried onboard? There must be at minimum, a life jacket for every person onboard, plus 5% spare. The ships are required to carry different types of life jackets for adults, children and infants. Christine Frances Posted February 8, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 8, 2016 From Celebrity's website http://www.celebritycruises.com/frequently-asked-questions#faq5325 Guests should not bring life jackets to the muster drill. In the unlikely event of an emergency, our procedures direct guests to precede directly to their muster stations upon hearing the emergency signal. This reduces the chance for cross-traffic and improves response time at muster stations, as guests do not need to return to their staterooms to retrieve their lifejackets if they are in another part of the ship at the time. Once a guest arrives at their muster station, a crew member will provide them with a life jacket. In the unlikely event of an emergency, one of the most important aspects is to account for all persons onboard, and this process facilitates that accountability. We also store additional life jackets at each muster station.

Fouremco Posted February 8, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 8, 2016 another cost cutting move, no doubt.... I suspect that you'll find the total number of life jackets aboard to be quite similar, just a difference in distribution.

Newer ships do not have lifejackets in the staterooms. Well, the Silhouette is the second-newest ship, and there have always been lifejackets in our cabin. Our latest cruise was in November and they were certainly there then
lakeeffect Posted February 9, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Life jackets have been in our stateroom on all Celebrity ships we have traveled on, most recently on Reflection. Good to know they are also at the muster stations. Currently i am reading Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania. Much has been learned about life boats and life jackets since then! Cruising Is Bliss Posted February 9, 2016 #19 Share Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) After reading the entire thread on the Anthem of the Seas Storm, I am wondering if Celebrity follows suite and does not have the life jackets in the state rooms, but has them at the muster stations. Can anyone give a true answer, Silhouette for now? Thanks It's ship by ship. After the Costa Concordia debacle, among the new SOLAS requirements is for all new builds (contract placed on or after July 1, 2013) to have the life jackets for all bodies aboard kept at either the muster stations or the life boats. Where possible some older ships have switched. Costa Concordia passengers trying to get to their cabins, and coming back wearing life jackets, were a significant contribution to congestion and delays in the hallways. ECCruise Posted February 9, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I suspect that you'll find the total number of life jackets aboard to be quite similar, just a difference in distribution. I highly doubt that. Currently on =X= ships, there is 1 life jacket for each pax in the stateroom and enough life jackets for ALL pax (1 each) in another central location. If they remove the life jackets from the state rooms, I see no reason that they would carry double the number in the central location. For what purpose? So that each pax would have 2? lakeeffect Posted February 9, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 9, 2016 And U boats, too. Sounds like an interesting book. Was it carrying war supplies? Yes, the Lusitania was carrying supplies, a few theories as to why she did not receive a military escort upon arrival. Very interesting book, not sure I would read it DURING my cruise... RCKM43 Posted February 9, 2016 #23 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I was one who commented and surprised. We cruise mainly Celebrity, but have been on other lines, but our last four cruises were Celebrity. They have jackets both in the room and at the stations. I distinctly remember them saying if you are in the cabin bring them, but don't go back to your room for it if you are out during an emergency. I don't love the fact that they are not in the room. To me having them in both locations gives you the best chances. Many people arguing it was safer to not have them in your room and arguing people should not go get them. I think they were not getting that they were also at the stations and you are not supposed to go back for them.

Newer ships do not have lifejackets in the staterooms. Reflection had them in the room, as well as, the muster station. They told people if they were in their room bring them, if not do not go to your room, go straight to the muster station.
