I will be doing a B2B for the first time on the Westerdam.

What can I expect on change day?

Do we have to get off the ship?

Is there a special lunch provided like I hear there is on RCCL?

Can we leave our belongings in our cabin?

Thanks for your help!

You will receive transit cards in an envelope the day before the disembarkation day with instructions. If you are leaving the ship, you will receive "in-transit cards".

Leave everything in your stateroom but bring your passport and "in-transit" cards. There will be a brief time off the ship until all passengers have disembarked unless there are a large number of B2B, then you will just go to the Vista Lounge where you will wait while all other passengers disembark. In either case, our experience is 30 - 45 minutes away from your stateroom.

When you return to your stateroom, take full advantage of the time to get unobstructed photographs of the ship before new passengers arrive.

The MDR should be open for lunch.

On the last full day of your first cruise, you will get a letter with an In Transit card. The letter will explain what to do on Turn Around Day. Depending on how many are staying on for another cruise, depends on what you will do. We had a cruise last spring when there were only 5 of us staying on for another cruise. We had to get off the ship and go through immigration. We were instructed when and where to meet and got of as a group. We had to sit in the terminal until the ship got down to "zero" count -- took about an hour.

Many of our last cruises there were so many staying over for another cruise, we were instructed to report to the show lounge and wait for the officials to come on board. One time we waited 1 1/2 hours. Some people just take their time leaving the ship and holding up everyone else.

Remember to take your Passport and your In Transit card if you are given one.

The night before, your Log will give you the breakfast hours which is early and Lido and dining close down at 8 AM.

There is no special lunch on your new embarkation day. Times listed in the daily "On Location" are for everyone.

You leave all your clothes, etc. in your cabin.

You will also be required to attend the lifeboat drill on your second cruise.

I was also wondering about turn-around day procedures, but we just experienced it on the Eurodam and it was a piece of cake. Except for the 8 cabins who chose not to arrive in the main show lounge until they were threatened with eviction. The whole procedure would have taken about 35 minutes; instead, it was well over and hour. I know, in the grand scheme of things it wasn't long, but when you are waiting for people who seem to feel their time is more precious than yours, well, . . .

The main dining room was open, as was the Lido and the Dive-In also. Enjoy!

Smooth Sailing ! :) :) :)

Are these turn around descriptions for USA ports. It's been a while since we did a B2B, all have been in Europe and I don't recall ever going through immigration. I do recall the "in transit " cards but we just got off like any other port day. When we came back we bypassed others checking in and went right on the ship. We did have to settle our casino account .

Yes. My experiences in Europe are the same as yours; it was treated as any other port day, and I could stay on the ship, or leave and return, just as at any other port.

On my last series of Europe cruises (4 in a row), there were in transit cards so we could bypass the boarding line area.

Our experience is that you only need to go through Port Customs and Immigration if you are returning to the ship after leaving the terminal.

The Vancouver folks mistakenly sent some of the B2B passengers through Immigration on the first time Noordam stopped there on the way to Alaska. The mistake and corrective action caused the Noordam to leave Vancouver more than one hour late and missing the favorable tides. Second stop at Vancouver B2B was a winding stroll through the terminal stancions, ten-minute pause, and back on board the ship.

Similar process at Canada Place.
