marshhawk Posted February 16, 2016 #26 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Your best bets would be European or Asian lines, like Hapag Lloyd or Costa (two of the few where it's OK to smoke on balconies). or check out the new german line aida.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 16, 2016 #27 Share Posted February 16, 2016 or check out the new german line aida. AIDA has been around since at least the 1970s. It was acquired by Carnival Corp back in 2003....
jamessemaj Posted February 16, 2016 #28 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Of the lines I have sailed, Princess, RCI, NCL, Celebrity, as a smoker, the one least nice to smokers was Celebrity. The others offer reasonable accommodation to both smokers and nonsmokers. Celebrity can ban smoking as far as I care because their restrictive policy is such that I won't book it again. SteveH2508 Posted February 16, 2016 #29 Share Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I am a smoker (of small cigars so I am beyond hope - a leper - an untermensch) We sailed on Royal Princess last summer. They have a smoking area at the back on deck 17 - coffee and juice on tap - waiters to get proper drinks from the bar directly below and a brilliant view. We had a blast there - no whiners or faux coughers/flappers and excellent company to boot. The cigar bar was also buzzing. I did not even spark up a cigarette in the casino - just walked round the corner to the cigar bar - no problem. I did not miss my balcony smokes at all - I would sail again on that ship in a heartbeat. Short answer - if they have a cigar bar (or internal smoking area), you are good to go. If they do not, then, if they close the outside decks due to weather or bunkering, you are stuffed. Edited February 16, 2016 by SteveH2508

sail7seas Posted February 17, 2016 #32 Share Posted February 17, 2016 Oh HAL ships that permit smoking in the casino, that is only when the casino is open and operating and only for those who are actively gambling. They do not permit people to come in, stand around, smoke their cigarette(s) and leave.

Rare Hlitner Posted February 17, 2016 #34 Share Posted February 17, 2016 or check out the new german line aida. My goodness, there is nothing new about Aida....which is the largest (by far) German cruise line. Just keep in mind that if you cruise on Aida you will be on a German speaking vessel with many passengers who speak little or no English. And the idea that Germans tolerate smoking is no longer true. Here is the Aida Policy: " All cabins and public spaces of our ships are Non smoking areas. This follows the European aspirations and the legislation in force to protect the Non smoking. For guests who do not want to do entirely without a cigarette or an electronic Zigaratte, cabin balconies and designated smoking areas are provided on the free decks available." As a frequent traveler in Europe we have noted the recent change in attitude and laws. In many countries it is amusing (and a bit sad) to see lots of diners congregating outside restaurants between each course so they can have a smoke. That is because indoor smoking has been largely banned throughout Western Europe. Hank
