shorti503 Posted February 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Assuming the ship stays the same for 2017 and I book a northern Alaska cruise what balcony room should I try to get for the best views? This will be my first balcony and I want to make it worth it.
runawaysoul Posted February 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I'm sure you can get strategic with it, but as far as view goes, any unobstructed view will do. There was far too much to see for any one cabin to be at a better vantage point than someone else. Balcony size is different matter.
Clarea Posted February 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2016 An aft balcony would give excellent views.
goneclear Posted February 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I dont know what cruise you are looking at but we sailed Alaska on the Serenade O.S. out of Vancouver and were on port side. I dont think you will go wrong on either side on an Alaska cruise especially if you are doing the inside passage.
KBD1516 Posted February 16, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Many people spend most of their time on the top deck for a grand 360• view. Look at the direction of your cruise. Go on google earth to "see" which you might prefer.

Rare Keith1010 Posted February 16, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Best views will be from the open deck. Either side to view from time to time in terms of from your room would be fine. Keith
Rare island lady Posted February 16, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Aft corner to be more specific. The wrap around balcony is awesome. Ditto to that!! We have aft wrap 9256 for both legs of our B2B on Radiance in August! :D
runawaysoul Posted February 16, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I had no idea about aft cabins until I read about it here on CC. Just what I need, to book another cruise to experience something I want to know more about. I hate you people! :D

Clarea Posted February 16, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2016 When we were on our Alaska cruise, even though we had a baclony, we spent more time up on deck. Better views.

Except when I want to quickly run out and check the views when I get up in the morning with my robe on. I only scare the fish that way. :p :p

Everyone is different. We spent hours on our deck, and never was up on the top of the ship to see stuff. Had a nice and long breakfast the morning we visited the glaciers. So much more convenient to be right next to our cabin for that day.
runawaysoul Posted February 16, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 16, 2016 When did you go? On mine (early May), it was pretty cold and windy for much of it... Of course, I'm from the southern U.S., which means I wear a parka for anything less than 80 degrees right? :p When we were on our Alaska cruise, even though we had a baclony, we spent more time up on deck. runawaysoul Posted February 16, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 16, 2016 What happens on the top deck stays on the top deck. I've seen guys in speedos in the pool during the Alaska cruise, to a priest in the hot tub full of blondes on Carnival Fantasy! Except when I want to quickly run out and check the views when I get up in the morningwith my robe on. I only scare the fish that way. :p :p
nativetexan Posted February 16, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 16, 2016 We were lucky enough to get a corner aft on a northbound cruise out of Vancouver. Absolutely spectacular. All time favorite cabin! It was amazing. Enjoy Alaska. One of our favorites!!

Of course, I'm from the southern U.S., which means I wear a parka for anything less than 80 degrees right? :p Weather for an Alaskan cruise is pretty erratic. Our first two times we went early in the season, it was either March or April. The weather was beautiful, no rain and wore shorts most of the time, and we are from Arizona. The last time we went was about 3-4 years ago, in the middle of August. It rained almost every day with highs in the low 50s.
shorti503 Posted February 17, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted February 17, 2016 Thank you for the replies. I am anxiously waiting for the release of the cruises next week! Hopefully I can get a corner aft balcony. With the corner aft is it better to be at the front of the ship or the back?

Hopefully I can get a corner aft balcony. With the corner aft is it better to be at the front of the ship or the back? Aft actually means "back of the ship". So naturally all aft cabins are directly in the back of the ship. Some do a sort of "wrap" which are corner cabins. They have bigger balconies, and can peek around the corner (as in the Radiance class series). The higher up you are, the bigger the balcony.
