san diego sue Posted March 13, 2016 #26 Share Posted March 13, 2016 For some that don't know. A duvet is a cover for the comforter(not the blanket). Friends on board said their deck (and mine tomorrow) Caribe starboard side will have the new comforters ( I guess I will find out if it will have those sheets or a duvet cover).Maybe the Duvets haven't come in yet, hope that is the problem. Will post once on board. If there are the sheets, will ask the Room Steward if that is permanent.
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted March 13, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) I keep encouraging my in-laws that the 10 day cruise should be better. They've never done a cruise shorter than 7 days, and it's just not for them. Also, we have wondered if many crew is new. With how much crew works onboard, by the 10 day cruise, it should be old hat for them if they were new for this 4 day. Cobraman, it's good to know your cruise was good; it's the same itinerary they begin tomorrow. san diego sue, please report back as to whether duvets will eventually be procured or not, and I hope you have an awesome cruise! san diego sue Posted March 13, 2016 #28 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Those 4 day cruises are not the same as longer ones. Much more drinking and the crowd is younger. I really enjoyed our 4 day cruise on the Crown(Super Bowl weekend). Am used to an older crowd and it was kind of nice having a mix of all ages on that one (including young children). However, I fully understand someone not enjoying those shorty cruises. Hope your folks enjoy the 10 day cruise which starts tomorrow. I will definetly report back on those Duvets vs. Sheets. For us, we will be the very first ones in our cabin to have the new comforter, so won't be freaked if it is the sheet covers. Now future cruising, that will be another story . sassyredhat Posted March 14, 2016 #29 Share Posted March 14, 2016 We got off the Ruby Feb 29 from a 15 day cruise. Yes, the new beds and bedding were in place. Yes, they have duvet covers. And yes, they were wonderful. :) The food was very, very good. Crew was great. Shore excursions were great, disembarkation was the easiest and fastest we have had (we are still Platinum). The ship~~~not so much. BTW~~ we had 17 ft waves, but it wasn't a problem for us. We didn't have wifi for 2 1/2 days, which meant no casino, all gift shop receipts were hand written, no internet. The laundry room near us (Riviera) had overflowing washers twice. Our shower backed up with black gunk twice, toilet seat came unscrewed, sink plug never did stay attached (we did ask for maintenance), and one day the toilets, ship wide, didn't flush for a few hours. It was a fiasco getting to the Botticelli dining room because of having only 2 working elevators. Maybe this is what they alluded to. For us, it was a fun cruise, although annoying at times. We already have 2 more PCL cruises booked, but we won't sail on Ruby again. Patti
ccruisequeen Posted March 15, 2016 #30 Share Posted March 15, 2016 We did the 10 day after yours. Public toilets were backed up and we had a day of rocking weather coming up the coast. There was one new entertainment staff member, Tyrone, but the staff were very outgoing. The disembark process for disabled is slow and tedious, even for elite I still love the Ruby, and plan to do the Halloween California Coastal in October. I no longer see carnival from my condo front porch :(

memoak Posted March 15, 2016 #32 Share Posted March 15, 2016 I was on the cruise on the 10th - new mattress is great - slept like a baby and had the duvet - all very clean. Seas were not too bad just a few rolls here and there, would actually have like some more rolling - always puts me to sleep. Weather in San Diego very pleasant until about 4 or so - then is poured for about an hour and then stopped. Weather in Ensenada was great as well. I do prefer the smaller ships but I would sail the Ruby again
