Trying to get idea for budgeting for alcoholic drinks for our cruise. What are prices of individual drinks like mixed drinks, glass of wine and the exotic blended drinks? Wondering if it will pay to buy drink card? We are not huge drinkers but still want to have fun on vacation. Heard that bar bill can be $1000. Thanks.

We think of it as going out to a restaurant for dinner...I'm not a huge drinker when it's warm, so typically will have a few during the evening hours and by the end of the week my bar bill is about $200 or less.

Not as bad as I imagined.

Bar bill depends on cruise length. For a fixed budget, you may want to consider the AIBP package.

"All-Inclusive Beverage Package $56.35 per person, per day

Enjoy the convenience of our All-inclusive Package featuring any drink up to $10 including cocktails, wine, beer, bottled water, sodas, specialty coffees & more! A 40% discount on bottles of wine (below $100 retail) is also offered on bottles purchased in bars, dining rooms or specialty restaurants.

Excludes in-room services, souvenir, mini-bar and vending machine items."

Please, does anyone know which bar on the Golden Princess would have the Martini Recipe playing cards? I read Crooners have them, searched the deckplan and cannot find Crooners on the Golden Princess.

TIA. I always learn something when I come on Cruise Critic.

Hi, it looks like it is called the Promenade Lounge and Bar on the deck plan. Sure it was Crooners last time I was on Golden. Spent a lot of time there :).

Cheers

We were each given a certificate for a free drink on our January cruise on the Coral, presumably because there was not a Captain's Circle party. We both ordered "fruity" Drinks banana chocolate something or other, and I seem to remember they were priced at $8.95 each plus gratuity.

Also, you can buy a wine bottle package on cruises of 10 nights or above. All bottles are discounted and they have two different price levels to purchase. If you don't complete an entire bottle of wine at dinner, they will hold it for you for the following night.

There is also a daily happy hour ... make that twice daily. You buy one drink at the stated price and get one of the exact same drinks for $1. Most times, this will be in the Wheelhouse Bar from 3-4 (it will be crowded) and from 10-11 PM in another lounge. If too crowded for a seat, you can always take you drinks back to your cabin or another seating area.

They also sell buckets of beer, 5 for the price of 4 or 5 for the price of 6 -- cannot remember which but you do get an extra beer for free.

You can purchase a coffee card either online ahead of time or while on the cruise if you like the specialty coffees.

Also available online ahead of time is a 12 bottle case of bottled water for under $7.

There is also free champagne or drinks available at some of the captain's events. Sometimes there are free drinks in the casino ...although rare.

You will also be able to bring 2 bottles of wine that you can consume in your stateroom onboard without charge. Any additional bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml only) will incur a corkage of $15 per bottle, regardless of where they are consumed.

So, I just don't think the beverage package is worth it with all these other money saving strategies available ... that is, if you are not big drinkers. We've made it worth our while but only when it is thrown in as a free perk.

Almost any drinks you order on Princess ships will be less than $10. :)

This.

Found the drinks, especially wine, to be very reasonably priced. Much less than what we're used to spending in a big city on land.

There's a happy hour everyday in the Wheelhouse Bar and Lounge. Buy 1 drink at the regular price and get the second same drink for $1. People buy 6 cans of beer and get the other 6 for $1 each. They take it back to their cabin to drink later. Wine is $8/glass, I don't know about the other drinks as we only drink wine. If you do the happy hour get there early as it fills up quite quickly. We also buy the wine package - 10 bottle package - $335 which included a gratuity and we could get wine up to $40/bottle. You can purchase the package but can only get the wine from the MDR. We pick up 3 bottles at a time and have it in our room on our balcony.

Most of the listed frozen and/or mixed drinks on the menu were about 9.50 with gratuity added for a single.

On my last sailings on the Breeze we were able to 'make it a double' ( how I love a Makers sour ) for $3 more. This was definitely the best bang for the buck.

To Peleg-

Under $10.00 for most drinks that includes the automatic gratuity.

Of course some are more.

Look at your Patter-newsletter and usually 2 times per day there is a happy hour, buy 1 drink and get same drink for a dollar more.

We bought them in Crooners in February. Everyone wants to play cards with me so they can get the great recipes. I think they were $5.00.

Just ask a waiter or waitress.

I am going to use this thread to post my question on the Beverage Package as the discussion is pretty close to what I want to clarify. My wife and I will be on the Regal in June this year and we both "enjoy" our wine and cocktails and I, the coffee after. If I were to get 1 beverage package, shouldn't I be able to use that package for my wife as well? Is there a limit to the number of 1 type of drink I can consume in 1 day? We can easily consume a bottle of wine between us and if I have my sums right, that will be 6 glasses, costing 56USD at the bar. It doesn't take much more to be in front on costs. This will off course be dependent on how many drinks of the same I can order at one time. Can someone help me out on this?

NO. You cannot SHARE. If you're caught, the package will be removed and you'll have to buy your drinks in addition of losing the $$$ you paid for that expensive sticker. Why in the world would you think you can SHARE?

The beverage package is per person.
