honybunyyy Posted March 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Who has tried the taste bar? What do they serve? My son was telling me about a section on the menu for unusual items to try. Is the taste bar what he was talking about?
MarcelLucSell Posted March 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2016 We saw it on the SunShine. They had samples from various menus featured most nights. It was near the Alchemy bar so we'd pop over and grab a few things before sitting at the bar before dinner. They had a schedule posted off to the side on which nights features which foods. I've read that they have breakfast treats out too, but we never made it there for that.
missdaisy Posted March 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Your son could have been referring to the dinner menu which always had a feature called "things you were afraid to try".

Is the taste bar what he was talking about? Your son may have been referencing the "Didja" section of the dinner menu, as in did you ever try: alligator fritters, escargot, frog legs, etc? The Taste Bar is on Deck 5, and offers samples of hors deouvres and such a few nights per cruise.
SadieN Posted March 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2016 The Taste Bar has samples of various Carnival eateries, whether on the ship or not. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

A&Jfamily Posted March 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Taste bar has the most awesome meatballs.:) Those are "Nonna's Meatballs" from Cucinia and they are great! When you get on board and walk by, you will see a weekly posting with what is being offered each night. It comes as usually two finger foods like a tiny soup shot and a slider. Its a great way to put a little bit of food in the tummy BEFORE those evening dinner drinks - best to slow down the intoxication process and enjoy it! youagain Posted March 23, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2016 We tried the taste bar several times while waiting for ATD to page us . It is right across from ATD reservations. Also during lunch they have a scaled down menu. If you are doing trivia or casino you can swing by and get a bite to eat instead of going up to Lido. Did not try for breakfast as our rooms were 2 down from Buffet and Havana Bar so used them most days. Hope this helps !
cruzeluver Posted March 23, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Great way to have a couple of hot apps during the pre-dinner cocktail hour.
JohnSpo Posted March 23, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Yes, the meatballs are good along with the whipped ricotta on the toasted bread. I eat late so I do enjoy the Taste Bar. It would be better if the Taste Bar was offered every night or offer sushi on the night without the Taste Bar. I do miss the sushi.
Savlamara Posted March 23, 2016 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2016 I liked the sushi bar more. Ditto. Sushi was one of the few things I only ate when on a cruise. Now that its Taste Bar i probably have tried it maybe twice in 5 cruises?
BB Huey Posted March 23, 2016 #14 Share Posted March 23, 2016 I think the Taste Bar is misunderstood. On 6 day cruise on the Breeze I never saw anyone walk up to it. The meatballs are great! The location is pretty poor and you always had to wait for someone to come out from the back. Sometimes no one came out and I just left.

Never on the Breeze but on all the other CCL ships we have been on it is on the promenade and usually two members of crew are working it. And only open about 4x on a 7 day cruise. I have always seen 2 crew members serving at the Taste Bar. Someone should be there or they had to get more food.

BB Huey Posted March 23, 2016 #18 Share Posted March 23, 2016 On the Breeze you can see a picture of the Taste Bar when you click on Ocean Plaza. The Red Frog Pub is next door. The dance floor goes back to the front of the Taste Bar which I think confuses some people. Pretty easy to know when it is open, food is laid out next to the plates along with a posted menu. Last time I tried to get something both employees walked in back as I approached.
okgirl Posted March 23, 2016 #19 Share Posted March 23, 2016 I frequent the Taste Bar regularly. In the morning they serve an expanded Continental Breakfast that also includes hardboiled eggs (sometimes scrambled). It's never busy. At lunch they do custom made chef salads and have turkey wraps that are delish to take back to the cabin for a late night stack. Then the small bites in the evening are a great snack with a cocktail. pretzellover Posted August 28, 2016 #21 Share Posted August 28, 2016 On our July 2016 cruise on the Valor, I only saw the Taste bar open twice. Once they were serving the meatballs and tomato soup. I don't remember the other night. Why is it only open a couple nights per cruise now? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Sweet Dutch Girl Posted August 28, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 28, 2016 Ah...my favorite place on the dream class ships. Hot coffee, danish, rolls, bagels at 7 am. Great when the rest of the clan doesn't get up until 9 or 10 for breakfast together. Super soups and salads at lunch and I just take them out to the promenade deck where we gather for some fun board games as the others are lapping up the sun in their deck chairs away from the hul-la-boo on the lido deck. Excellent place for dinner appetizers when we are ready to dine at 7 and we have late seating in the MDR.
maldenmusic Posted August 28, 2016 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2016 We saw the Taste Bar last month on the Triumph but didn't stop to try it. For some reason we thought it cost extra-smh!
