NLH Arizona Posted April 19, 2016 #26 Share Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) No more happy faces? That's a big change in 6 months. Most everyone we interacted with on the Gem in October was just as delightful as ever. They were just as delightful, with happy faces, on my December Dawn cruise. Some have been saying they were no happy faces since Mr. Del Rio took over, but it just seems to be a few. emcelh Posted April 19, 2016 #27 Share Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) Bummer. They had lobster 2 nights in the main dining hall on my last Carnival Cruise. Was a nice touch. They dropped lobster from the menu on cruises less than 7 days though. You can only get it if you pay a surcharge Edited April 19, 2016 by emcelh
SuiteCruiser Posted April 19, 2016 #28 Share Posted April 19, 2016 These things have been gone for years and weren't all these cutback during Mr. Sheehan's reign. Nope. Maybe the chocolate, because I would never notice, but the rest were from the new folks.
LrgPizza Posted April 19, 2016 #29 Share Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) Nope. Maybe the chocolate, because I would never notice, but the rest were from the new folks. There was no lobster or chocolate extravaganza on my 2014 cruises. Edit: Actually, on the May 2014 cruise, there were tiny lobsters in the buffet, but none in the MDR. In the November 2014, lobster was gone from the buffet as well. Edited April 19, 2016 by LrgPizza

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app There was all you can eat lobster in the buffet until it was changed to "seafood night" and that was FDR who did that. Not sure it even exists anymore now. I recently saw a post from May 2015 saying there were lobster tails in the buffet. Edited April 19, 2016 by SuiteCruiser

sfaaa Posted April 19, 2016 #34 Share Posted April 19, 2016 Just got back from an NCL cruise and notice there are lots of no more: No more nightly chocolate mint on your pillows, no more lobster night, no more chocolate extravaganza. Where have you been all these time? No more internet connection at home?
welove2cruise* Posted April 19, 2016 #35 Share Posted April 19, 2016 We had taken two cruises with NCL every year for the past 10 years or so. This Feb. we sailed with Royal Caribbean as the itinerary included St. Maarten and we were tempted with a very good price on the Allure. This fall we have decided to spend two weeks in Italy rather than cruise. Partly because there was nothing to choose that was different than what we already had done cruise wise, but also because after the brief visits during port stops it was a place that we felt would be nice to more fully experience. We have two booked next year already and still waiting for 2018 info. It will be interesting to see what we think after our trip this fall. I get a bit twitchy on here when the staff aren't treated well, but I still love the NCL experience. It's very different than it used to be, but it's still different enough from the other cruiselines that it's still better than the other mainstream lines in my view, at least. I think you'll have a great time, go in with a good attitude and you'll have a great time.
spanishguy1970 Posted April 19, 2016 #37 Share Posted April 19, 2016 The chocolate extravaganza has been gone for at least 2 years if not more, i for one don't miss it i thought the chocolate was mediocre at best, it was greasy with no real flavor. I still get those mint chocolates on my pillow but i am Platinum. I remember lobster dinner in the MDR up to 2012 but that is long gone now along with the escargots. I am sure things will keep disappearing, i don't particularly miss them because i am allergic to shellfish however i can understand why some enjoyed the lobster. I can get the escargots in Le BIstro. Also long gone are the free Capuccinos, free breakfast in your stateroom, and free pizza as well. :(:(:(:(:(

Regardless of the changes NCL has made in my opinion Royal doesn't come close with the casino program or their food which I thought was horrible. The grass isn't always greener next door. On the Anthem the Crew was amazing. Really the crew reminded me of how the NCL crew used to be. Also the ship layout was fantastic. The food was awful on the Anthem and the Casino Crew and Staff need to get it together. The shows were not great either, First time I ever walked out of a show on a cruise. We Will Rock You was a let down! I did love how the Anthem had the Solarium at no charge! NCL should think of that for cruises leaving NY in the winter without people having to play for the Haven or Spa. RCC also has costal kitchen for their loyal members and suite guest. We were in a suite so we ate there the food and service is much like the Haven. If I was to compare the Breakaway to the Anthem. Ship layout and balcony cabins: RCC hands down! Casino program: NCL is much better. Staff: RCC Entertainment: NCL Food: NCL!!!!!! Ship Cleanliness: RCC by a long shot. Member rewards: Low level NCL. Higher levels RCC Activities for free RCC Edited April 20, 2016 by monkeybone

Golfin55 Posted April 23, 2016 #47 Share Posted April 23, 2016 You can't get dehydrated from too much salt BTW. It cause bloating and water retention. So, in fact it has the opposite effect. Golfin55 Posted April 23, 2016 #48 Share Posted April 23, 2016 ;) A few years now ... not long ago in our "timeframe" :D The absence of happy faces among the crew ... now, that's a serious one. Hmmm[emoji848] thought provoking, but wrong. The cruise lines have no shortage of people wanting to work onboard. However, the main reason is most people have a major problem with entitlement. They scour, yell, demand extra from the hard working folks. So, the lack of "smiles" you refer too, has everything to do with how they are treated by paying guest. I've chatted with so many stewards, bartenders Ect... over the years that the overwhelming majority resign a contract. And, I love hearing the sob stories many people claim they have heard first hand from the front of house employees. About how bad things are. They are looking for extra tips One would have to think after the 1st contract was over, they would NOT come back. Because at that point, financially speaking they would do better in there respective countries after being robbed on the original contract. That's just logic. Not necessity. As they do have other options of meaningful employment outside of the cruise industry.
cmdchiefthom Posted April 23, 2016 #49 Share Posted April 23, 2016 I still see the smiles, just like I remember the first time I boarded the NCL Sun. I saw it in February '16 when I boarded the Escape followed a week later when I again checked into the Haven on the Getaway. I see the smiles in the dining rooms, when my room steward stops by to say hello, when the butler brings our afternoon snacks, and when I come in from a show, or just an evening out and about and find the towel animals and the chocolates on our pillows. I am counting the days until we board the Gem and enter our favorite forward facing suite on deck 9. Yes I think Del Rio is a penny pincher, and I voted my stock against him as a member of the board. But, I still enjoy the NCL experience more than the other lines I've sailed aboard, and that's all I have to say about that.;)
