Gem is canceling GSC again this week!

The Gem will probably keep missing GSC until the repairs to the propulsion system are fully completed. Tendering at best is a hit and miss situation. Add a faulty propulsion system and you could have a serious potential for passenger injuries from rough surf and going from a bobbing ship to a bobbing tender and missing your footing.

You have easy access to a beach in Port Canaveral or Nassau not to mention the extra $50 OBC for missing GSC and an extra day in Nassau.

Yes, we have zero issue with missing

the Island, fully understand why it has

to be done! We will have plenty of fun

without it. Just being on the cruise is amazing

We are on the June 18 sailing and fingers crossed the issues are resolved, weather cooperates, and we get to GSC -- but we have scheduled a beach day in Nassau just in case (need to have at least one beach day in the Bahamas!). Plus, if we don't have to pay for the cabana we booked and get an extra $50 (if they're still offering that for change of schedule due to propulsion issues) that just means more bingo and/or casino! An overnight in Nassau would also give us an opportunity to checkout the Graycliff Chocolate Tour -- their tour times never seem to line up with our itinerary. I've found on cruises it's always good to have a plan A and a plan B to avoid any possible disappointment.

My family and I are taking our first ever cruise on the Gem July 9th. I have already warned my family of the cancellations at GSC the past few weeks & told them to be prepared even for weather etc.

I am a bit iffy on GSC because I have a 27 year old daughter with cerebral palsy who can not walk and uses a wheelchair. So I have concerns with the tender and I am not guaranteed a sand wheelchair , its first come first serve, can't reserve!

Can someone tell me when we get to Nassau can we walk from the ship into the town with a wheelchair? Are there sidewalks we can walk with her?

I'm in the June 4th sailing being optimistic thinking if they keep cancelling it increases my odds of going there

Us too! IT's a shame because we love GSC. It's really the high light. Ever other cruise we've been on has made it there. If it is cancelled, this will be the first time. Really... 2 days in nassau? We probably will stay on the boat one of those days if that is what it comes to. It's nice to have an emptier pool area.

In Nassau , there are sidewalks, there's a straw market which I liked, many didn't. Go yo you tube to see what you can expect. We're also n the July 9th cruise. I think that we should be ok for the island but you never know the weather. Did you contact NCL about the wheelchair. If not try otherwise, when we check in, tell them. By the way, I'm cc

Go to Youtube as there are plenty of video on Nassau pier/terminal ... from where the GEM & other ships typically docked, there is a complimentary shuttle that take folks who rather not walk - especially with the hot sun - to the terminal building and/or the gate (escorted tours leave via the guarded gate) - saving an easy 10 to 15+ minutes of casual & slow walking (in your case, pushing the transport wheelchair) And, driver was very appreciative of a nominal tip - just wait a few minutes for the next one as they do the loop almost continuously, stopping at all the ships berthed there.

I am not 100% sure but a compact, folded transport WC should fit, somehow - at minimal, DD can be driven. There are most paved sidewalks, marked crossings and traffic lights at key intersections along the main shopping districts - just download a good PDF map of downtown/waterfront Nassau to use as your offline handy guide to the smartphone or iPad, as the one distributed by NCL at the Port & Shop "Talk" is all about DI and affiliates sponsoring :D

My crew and I are on the June 18th Gem sailing. While we would love the opportunity to snorkel and visit GSC, we also LOVE the longer day at Disney and and extra day in Nassau. So we will make the best of whichever itinerary shows up. Happy cruising all!!

Hi Marion. I thought that because we are staying overnight they would maybe open the casino Wednesday night. Guess we will have to go to Atlantis and try our luck. Who knows we may get lucky. See u soon. Lin

I have been told that when ships stay overnight, nassau does allow the opening of the casino, but I don't remember what the time is

The one time I made it to GSC was shortly after I had knee surgery. They do have wheel chairs for the sand there and one of their workers pushed me around.

We were on the Gem April 30th and also missed going to the Island. This time it was because the divers got held up in traffic coming from Miami. The Captain did his It is what it is speech like it never happened before and said that the main office made the decision not to stop there. I can't help but wonder how much we paid for the use of the tenders as a port charge? More than $50 per cabin? We had also prebooked a cabana and had to pay when we booked it. I had a few onboard credits I had intended to use on it. When I got onboard I noticed the price was less so they added a second cabana to my on board account but never gave me credit for what I already paid....yeah. When it was cancelled I asked and was told that any excess would go back on my credit card. I called this week to find out I would be issued a check but no one was working on it. Don't know why they don't make it so their ships can dock there? Looks like they are closing it for renovations this fall.

Actually cancelling GSC before the cruise starts is better than getting there and not being able to tender because of weather or rough seas. We were in Nassau by noon, so we had two great afternoons, but when they last minute cancel GSC the ship does not hit Nassau until 6PM. So my glass was half full.

if they canceled b4 the cruise started, then why not dock in Miami instead?

(aug 27, 2016 cruise is Miami instead of GSC!)

also, are there other casinos besides Atlantis?

I thought construction on that property stopped a while back.

$3.5B

never opened

declared bankruptcy last year

and caused the credit rating agencies to lower the Bahamas rating to BBB- and warned it could be heading for junk.

Just got back from Nassau......Ba Ma har is 95% complete, they bought up the Crystal Palace and also the gambling license! There are only two gambling license allowed on the Island, there are no other Casinos in Nassau, just Atlantis and Bar Mah Har ( I think i spelled that wrong) .

We took a tour over to that Resort, it will put Atlantis to shame in size. It should be completed in 6 months.

We went on this same Norwegian cruise out of NYC 2 years ago and had a great time. Fast forward to 3 months ago when we decided to book the same cruise and eagerly anticipated another enjoyable week on the Gem. Imagine our disappointment when we got an email the week of embarkation telling us of a change in itinerary that would leave out the day to be spent at Great Stirrup Cay. We tried to make the best of the situation by booking an excursion to "The Blue Lagoon" in Nassau at a cost of $130.00. However, it was a poor substitute for GSC. Aside from that disappointment, the cruise was great.....the ship was clean, food and entertainment was excellent and I cannot say enough good things about the crew and staff on the Gem. My only criticism is the lack of the day at GSC that we had eagerly anticipated. If it were not for that, we would probably be confirmed Norwegian fans.

We love NCL and we made the best of the two days in

Nassau, we had a great time!with great friends!

We love GSC and had a Cabana booked for this cruise

as we had one last year and loved it!

We never take any port for granted , GSC is never

100% , if the weather is bad or the the waves are

to rough, the ship will not allow tender to the Island.

At least we had plenty of time to make plans before hand.

I think it is more disappointing finding out the day of

rather then a week ahead of time!

This can happen on any cruise line other then Disney

who has a Dock on their Island !

I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise other

then not making it to GSC
