firstlady@22 Posted May 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2016 I was raised that you never know until you ask and the worst that can happen is someone says no. Much to my surprise no one said no. Let me back up...So I noticed there was a sale posted on Carnivals website and called my travel agent to see if we could get an adjustment or an upgrade. They offered us two nicer rooms but since hub and I are in one cabin and our two teenage girls are in the adjoining cabin with two of their friends we didn't want to split up the rooms. So now we are sitting a pretty hefty onboard credit that we could never possibly use up. We both socially drink and will enjoy ourselves on the trip but we aren't huge drinkers and we do have our littles with us so the cheers program would be a waste on us. I will take advantage of the spa but that will still only make a small dent in the credit. I feel like somewhere I read that you could go to the casino and cash out some of your onboard credit. Is this true and if so can someone please school me? B thanks in advance!
FTLCruiseGal Posted May 28, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2016 This is very true. Go to a slot machine and put in your card. Put a cash amount on your card, and then cash it out. You can actually spin it a time or two if you like. When you first insert your card (Sign & Sail Card), you will have to set up an account with a PIN. I believe the most that you can put on your card at a time is $500. I believe I read somewhere (although it is very possible I am wrong) that Carnival has caught onto this and you cannot cash out until the last night or they are charging a fee. Someone please clarify this.

TxChick Posted May 28, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) Wow, we easily spend that on a 7 day cruise. We drink but aren't lushes, I do the special on the spa day, play the wheel of fortune a bit, and go the steakhouse, take DD to cherry on top, build a bear, and buy her a few trinkets to bring home. It adds up quick. As others have said, you can cash out at the casino. Edited May 28, 2016 by TxChick

hightownCO Posted May 28, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 28, 2016 I've heard that the Cherry On Top sells carnival gift cards. If you're going to cruise again can buy a gift card and use it to book your next cruise or apply to you account on your next cruise.
thundercrack Posted May 28, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 28, 2016 If you didn't pre pay tips, that is about 1/2 of your $1200.00 right there for 6 people.

cb at sea Posted May 28, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 28, 2016 If it's refundable, and it should be...you can simply not spend it all, and they will send you a check for the balance. If it's non-refundable, then you will have to "suck up" any fees to get the cash.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk In all the years we have been cruising I have never used the ATM machine and didn't know that you used your sign and sail card to get cash from it. I always thought you just used your regular ATM bank card.:) Bill

SadieN Posted May 29, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 29, 2016 You can use the ATM on the ship the money comes from the sail and sign card. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The ATM has a huge fee. Two types of OBC- nonrefundable and refundable. Nonrefundable gets used first. Anything left over by the end of your cruise can be withdrawn from GS or you'll receive a check in a week or two. evandbob Posted May 29, 2016 #20 Share Posted May 29, 2016 Invite 2 friends or relatives to come on the cruise with you.....pick a cabin for them that approximates your OBC and book it for them. They can then pay you and you'll have cash before you even cruise.
coevan Posted May 29, 2016 #21 Share Posted May 29, 2016 sorry to burst your bubble, but I doubt you can take an OBC as cash. Wht would CCL do that, makes absolutely no financial sense. Why did you get a $1200 credit, that's as much as a cabin for 2.

Why did you get a $1200 credit, that's as much as a cabin for 2. We've done it. It's the pax's money. Must be easier accounting than refunding. Non refundable OBC are things like shareholder's and fare specials. Refundable OBCs are from reduction in the cruise fare and port fees. ****** Could book excursions, spa, Bottomless Bubbles, Cheers.
