Haven Access for Non-Haven Passengers?

The problem is that the Haven is sized for the Haven. You would be amazed what would happen overnight if your suggestion was implemented. I don't think anyone is really bothered by an occasional guest, most will never even know. But if it was SOP to allow guests, the Haven would quickly be overrun.

This. On our Jade cruise, my parents were in an aft PH, we were in a courtyard villa. Haven passengers are allowed to have guests in their room in the Haven (if their room is in the Haven), but not use the communal Haven facilities. My parents visited us several times, and we walked slowly past the courtyard so they could see it (on the way to our room), but never did we ask them to come spend time in the courtyard.

I really don't think that many people travel with multiple parties staying in separate tiered categories or feel compelled to invite strangers back to the Haven area. Most of this is applying to immediate family and close friends vacationing together. So no I don't think it will be overrun if they visit for a bit and have a drink.

I agree with this.

That said, people shouldn't get perks that they didn't pay for. It's kind of like slipping a free drink you get because of a drink package to somebody without a drink package. It's not right, IMO.

Look, the bar is really not that large. Neither is the pool area. There are typically well over 4000 people on board the Breakaway. There are over 2000 cabins, of which a grand total of 42 are in the Haven. There are not a lot of guests that stay there, which is why the space works. The reason they pay the fare is for the privacy and the service. I'm sorry if it can't be for everyone, but it's just not big enough. There are plenty of dining choices and bars on board for those folks that can't afford or don't choose to pay for the Haven.

The Haven on most of these ships is sized for 100-200 people. Lets use Escape as an example which on many cruises has 5000 people. I strongly believe that > 5% of the cruise ship will know someone in the Haven. Even if it is only 2%, it is too much. It really doesn't take much to overwhelm the Haven facilities overall they are not large.

There is just no way to enforce a 'gray' area, the only way it can work is all or nothing. Anything else invites chaos. It is the same with the Vibe. No guests period. Same with the spa. Why should the Haven be different ? Its the same problem the areas are sized for x people and x seats are sold there is no 'extra' capacity for guests built into these areas.

IMHO.

Entertain non-haven guests in your cabin or visit with them in the non-haven part of the ship.

I have done this. It works.

You mean to tell me that Haven guests can go to other parts of the ship?

Oh, the humanity!

I am booked in an aft haven penthouse on Breakaway, and wanted to add my niece. I was not able to do so because of lifeboat capacity limitations. If I booked her in a studio, she could join us in the haven for 2 dinners at $35 per. No other Haven perks could be shared. This was info from customer service last week.

Yes, Trip. It is in fact true. And I am living proof. I would never ask the Concierge for favors. Not Karin, Monica, Ruth or even my guy, Hanno.

I have passed up the suite venue in order to dine with my dear cousin, other friends and trivia buddies. Sometimes relationships trump perks.

You heard it here.

I was being facetious. I suppose it didn't translate.

As I've said many times, I'm always amazed at the group who wants to the rest of their non suite party to take advantage of the Haven/suite perks, but no one ever considers that the suite folks can very easily do everything on the ship, including boarding with the non suite guests.

Everyone wants to be together, together, together...but not in the buffet! They want to be together, together, together at the Haven pool...

I kinda figured you were. I laid it on thick. We definately agree on this one.

There are exceptions to every rule even without asking for it.

Sometimes <gadzooks> it is just offered.

Who would have thought?

Good luck with this one. NCL will remove any non Haven guest from the courtyard or bar without exception.

Absolutely. If NCL wishes to extend priviledges they, as hosts, have that perogative. Those on the receiving end should show discretion in discussing it, IMHO. To brag about it or share details only set up false expectations for others. Because it is the exception. Not the rule.

I believe that is what I stated in my original post. There are exceptions to every rule. I am not bragging nor setting false expectations. I am just stating facts.

The way some people tell it on here is there is NEVER an exception to any rule and I am refuting that statement.

Ok, I will give you that... but you have to know there are people who feel like they are entitled to get whatever somebody else gets. I can just hear it, "I read on Cruise Critic, blah, blah, blah."

Maybe we agree it should not be asked for but if NCL graciously extends it that is a horse of a different color?

That is exactly what I was saying :)

As an FYI there are many reasons certain curtesies are given, managing a roll call, a special occasion etc. Arizona was VIP'd on a recent cruise so it does happen for many different reasons.

Why is this a question..

For once, the policy is clear...

Non-haven guests may dine in the restaurant, subject to a fee and availability. The concierge has some but limited discretion to allow exceptions based on circumstances and with prior approval. Crew other than the captain may not dine there without senior staff approval.

Passengers cannot bring guests into the Haven without meeting one of the above conditions. Period.

I'm thinking about upgrading from an M9 to an H9.

My DH and I are booked in an M9 (Spa Mini Suite)...and I'm wondering about upgrading to the H9 Haven Spa Suite With Balcony. DH's sister is cruising in a balcony cabin (purchased the Thermal Suite pass) and our friends, are in an Inside Guarantee.

Is The Haven totally off limits to them? Would we be able to invite them in to the bar for drinks before dinner? Could we have them over for cocktails on the balcony? DH's sister is a solo traveler. Could she wait in the boarding lounge with us?

Really interested in any experiences you've had when you've been in The Haven and are traveling with those 'in steerage'. :D If it were just DH and me, we'd book it. Just unsure about our traveling companions. Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hi,

If she is traveling alone nothing is stopping her from staying in your room...just ask the room steward to make up the couch as an extra bed...i dont think there is a policy on having to "stay" in your room for sleeping..it just may be a lil crowded in ur room unless u got a 2bedroom villa...but i do know NCL frowns on bringing guests in to use the pool but they can use the bar in the haven...their unlimited booze pkg will still work...but if you want them to join you for dinner then you pay $25 pp...and for a 7 day cruise you can have them for dinner 2 times.

enjoy the Haven..

If guests want to be in the Haven, buy a Haven room. I pay good money for the privilege of the Haven and it irks me when the lines get blurred.

According to recording artist "Robin Thicke" it seems he prefers his lines blurred. that song alone bought him a multi million dollar home on the shores of Malibu...

Carry on...
