Haven Access for Non-Haven Passengers?

How come nobody wants to be together, together, together at the MDR? Or the regular boarding group? Or together at the main pool deck? Can a group not find togetherness in these places?

 

 

Not "everybody" and "nobody"... As I posted, many like me do choose to dine with non-suite family and friends in the MDR. It's done all the time. I have never asked for an exception to the "rules" written or implied.

Yes, you could invite them to dinner ($25 additional per person) and yes, they could have drinks with you in the bar/lounge before dinner. Some people are providing their opinion of whether this is appropriate versus actually policy. It would be pretty ridiculous (and unusual) for NCL to charge non-Haven guest to join Haven guest for dinner and then make them hurry through a bar/lounge to get to the restaurant and receive drinks only while seated in the restaurant (which come from the same bar BTW), but not allow them to order pre-dinner drinks at the bar. There's no one checking IDs at the door, it's really a relaxed atmosphere and as long as you are not causing any trouble, no one will question you. There is no written policy, that I know of, that says that your friends who pay to join you for dinner cannot also join you at the bar beforehand.

 

 

Incorrect. Non-Havens Guests are not welcome in the Havens Lounge or Bar area. Yes, they must hurry through the bar area. No they are not allowed to order a pre-dinner drink at the Havens bar. Yes, the bartender should be swiping key cards for every drink. And yes, the bartender should refuse service to those who are not allowed in the Havens bar.

 

This policy was made very clear by the Concierge on the Escape last week.

There is no written policy, that I know of, that says that your friends who pay to join you for dinner cannot also join you at the bar beforehand.

I admit it. I don't get why this question keeps coming up. I mean, pretty much everyone realizes that if you buy two admissions to the movies (or a theme park, or the zoo, or...) you can't bring your six friends or usually even your one child along for free. So why is it so strange that if you pay for two Haven passengers that you only have access for those two people?

My MIL had a zoo membership for many years that allowed her to bring a number of other adults, as well as pretty much all of her grandkids, any time she wished. My parents both have lifetime national park passes that allow them to bring a number of others in with them. I believe our local YMCA still allows members to bring a guest. There is precedent, so it is perfectly understandable that someone would ask it about the Haven.

People pay for the Haven, it isn't a courtesy to be extended - it is a transaction that is purchased.

 

I agree...if I were a haven guest that paid substantially more for the exclusivity of the haven then once onboard see that it is being treated as a free for all I would be very angry...if you want to experience the haven then pay for the haven..if you don't than you do not have the right to be there....

Just "hanging out" is NOT allowed.

Reason I ask is, I have read this "practice" stopped a few years ago. I also read that it is allowed, but posters seem to be reciting what they've read. I am trying to decipher if this really is a possibility currently.

We had 7 of us in the Garden Villa on the Gem last month and 2 of the girls were in an oceanview cabin. They boarded with us and also ate in the Haven restaurwnt with us several times (no charge). I'm not sure if it was because we had the garden villa or we had a large group and they didn't know who was who OR those two were head of the M&G which is the more likely answer

OP just an idea would be to try and get Vibe passes or Spa passes for your group then you can have a great area all Haven and Non Haven guest can enjoy together.

 

If you really want to enjoy the Haven life with non haven guests get a aft suite the balcony's are huge and would be a great place to entertain your family and friends without breaking any rules.

Phyllis was head of the meet and greet… That's why the two of them were able to eat breakfast and lunch with us and board with us. They were given certain watered down VIP perks The Gem Is not Haven only ship.... If it were they would not have the perk of breakfast and lunch. We didn't actually have a haven restaurant… It was Cagney's for lunch and Moderno for breakfast

The question comes up because people are simply asking an honest question. :mad: It is not that uncommon in the travel and hospitality industries to extend these sort of courtesies. This sort of thing happens all of the time. It is not something that is flaunted or proclaimed...or touted as a privilege.

Exactly. The zoo/park passes the PP mentions list extra attendees as a specific benefit, like buying a family admission pass to something that covers two adults and however many children. It's listed right on the pass or ticket that you can bring extra people. Your movie ticket or Haven fare only includes the person it's purchased for...if it was supposed to cover more people, it would say that in the terms and conditions.

 

And now that I think about it, don't the T&C say "non-transferable' somewhere...wouldn't that suggest that you can't transfer your perks to someone else?

And honestly, some of us would never ask for favors. Because we do respect those who actually purchased a suite. A lot of us who plan and book suites do budget and save for them.

Correct, they are not allowed in general,but I have previously had guest dining with us join us for drinks in the bar beforehand. Did you specifically ask the concierges whether paying guest would be able to order drinks at the bar beforehand? If asked in general, yes the answer would be no. I've never observed anyone being "carded" individually. You obviously must pay for drinks, but one person could pay for everyone and even that's after the drink has been served.

we were charged $35 each for our guests at the Haven restaurant. We had asked the Concierge previously if we could invite 3 people to dine with us one evening. He gave special permission. They then charged $35 plus the 18% gratuity. Due to that total, I thought they had charged all 5 of us, only to find out the price has gone up.

Good to hear that Haven Restaurant is charging non-Haven guests. I know my Butler Jose complained many times of the non-Haven foot traffic in the lounge.

 

I noted in a recent review (May 29-June 5) that I tried to make arrangements for my son (who is a principle lead in MDQ on the Getaway) to join us in the Haven dining room for dinner one night. I was told by the Haven concierge and the CD that the latest rule from corporate was that no one but Haven guests were allowed to eat in the Haven dining room. The one exception to this rule was the Captain and he/she could only eat in the dining room on port days. The last night of the cruise, we brought all four male leads in MDQ into the Haven lounge to show them around and buy them a drink. It was fairly late. The lounge was not crowded and the Haven guests that were in there were enjoying chatting with the cast. One of the bartenders reported us to someone and the company manager called my son who is the stage captain. The company manager was confused as to why this was a problem, but rather than make a fuss, we all left. So no, no one but Haven guests are to be in the Haven according to my experience.

I did not ask for your judgement. We were Haven guests. We did not "sneak" them in. We were just having fun. It was the last night for a few minutes (not for a meal-late at night) and it actually was not a big deal. The few other Haven guests in there seemed thrilled to have what turned out to be a "meet and greet" with all four leads in the Million Dollar Quartet. My brother (also a Haven guest) wrote a letter to the Hotel Director suggesting that this might be a regular activity for Haven guests. I was not complaining about what happened, I simply stated the facts.

So what if every suite in the Haven had 2-3 guests into the haven and used the services, that would double that amount of people basically in there and the service to all would suffer.

The problem is that the Haven is sized for the Haven. You would be amazed what would happen overnight if your suggestion was implemented. I don't think anyone is really bothered by an occasional guest, most will never even know. But if it was SOP to allow guests, the Haven would quickly be overrun.
