Oooops, just hit the dock in Ketchikan (Several Threads Merged)

Coming into Ketchikan and it was very windy. Tight space and very very windy, we hit the dock and did some damage. Sitting here now, waiting for local authorities to investigate before we can finally dock........

Hi all,

 

We are aboard the infinity, whilst docking in Ketchikan in very windy conditions the ship has damaged the dock stucture. We have been advised to stay put, no one is allowed off the ship yet. It appears some of the dock structure has fallen into the bay.

Just had an update, the coastguard is now on the bridge.

My friends are on another cruise and watched it happen from a bar close to the dock.

No one can disembark. We are not even docked. Due to the high winds we damaged part of the dock structure.

DOCK DAMAGE — People look at damage to the Celebrity Infinity early Friday afternoon at Berth 3 in Ketchikan. The cruise ship damaged Berth 3 while docking, rendering it unusable.

There were three ships already docked and we had to squeeze into a tight location. Winds were too strong.

Looks like the small gang plank was pulled back onto the ship, I wonder if we are going to move to another dock. The Seven Seas Mariner has just left her berth, will advise.

Winds of 22mph are category 5 on the Beaufort wind scale (small trees sway). The wind conditions are what the Celebrity cruise director keeps citing for the accident, but I don't think it was the low wind speed as much as other unknown circumstances.

It was the wind speed as well as a tight squeeze to avoid the Holland American ship. We were on the balcony watching it all happen and the winds were much stringer than that. They had the props using back, but the wind push against the ship was too strong.

Holy Cow!!! I don't think I would have wanted to be on that other ship!! At least no one was hurt, but that was spectacular video. :eek:
