cpdwife1971 Posted June 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2016 We will be flying into Orlando and renting a car to drive to Miami for a Carnival cruise out of Miami. We would like to do the airport transfer service through Carnival where they check you in to the cruise right at the airport. Is this possible if we're not actually flying into Miami, but just dropping off our rental car at the airport? Would we have to go through security to get to the Carnival check in booth at the airport? Any insight is appreciated! :)
skrufy Posted June 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2016 No security check to get to the Carnival check in at MIA. After you return your car head over to luggage pickup area. At the far end on the right you will find the Carnival check in counter. We used it last January (arrived at 830am) and it was convenient and quick. The Carnival shuttle costs $15.00 per person. You are dropped of right next to the terminal with porters there to take your luggage.
JohninDC Posted June 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2016 Better yet, after checking in with Carnival take a taxi to POM ($27 for the cab, not per person) and you do not need to wait for the cruise line transfer bus to fill and unload.

JohninDC Posted June 21, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Another thought - National, Alamo and Thrifty (and maybe Enterprise) car rental at MIA offer a free shuttle from the MIA airport to POM. If you rent from one of them you could return the car and ride the free shuttle to the port (show the driver your printed receipt) -- not sure it would be worth your time to go to the baggage claim area to check in with Carnival and then return to the car rental center to get onto the shuttle?

I read somewhere on these boards that someone said you could hop onto a Carnival shuttle from MIA to the cruise port without reserving a spot. Do you know if this is correct. We will be flying into Miami and will arrive by 8:45 am. I hear that the first shuttle doesn't leave until 10:30 a.m. from the airport and we don't want to hang around that long. So, we figure we'll just take a cab but are also wondering if three large suitcases along with two carry-ons will fit in the cab with the driver and two passengers. Need info please. Would 4 people and 3 pieces of luggage fit into one taxi? Do they have van taxi's readily available?

Taxi vans and SUV cabs should handle all 4 of you plus bags and yes they are readily available. When you get to the front of the cab line let the dispatcher know - you may need to wait a minute or two for the next one to make its way to the front of the cab line.
