As I'm safely at the airport in preparation for my flight tomorrow to Hamburg to rendezvous with the remastered QM2, I'm feeling brave enough to share my recent blog of my inaugural voyage on QM2 before it went in to dry dock...

Hi Gary999,

Still reading your excellent and very informative blog, thank you for sharing.

One small point which you mention. The lifeboat drill is held on Deck 7 because that's where, during an emergency, people would assemble - next to the lifeboats (on a "boat deck"). Little point in assembling everybody down in the large public rooms on decks 2 & 3 and then asking/expecting them to walk up several/many flights of stairs (my emergency muster station on one crossing was the Gym as my cabin was so far forward!).

Right, back to reading, really enjoying it :)

Best wishes.

I don't use Twitter but this seems to be his account

The corridor carpet just looks plain wrong. Like he says, it looks worn on one side.

The photo with tea & coffee making facilities shows the electric sockets placed vertical.

Thanks for the link, Ray - and thanks Gary for your post.

I agree with you both - that corridor carpet is a bizarre choice.

The kettle is a nice idea for those who want to use it, but I think I'll stick with room service :)

Cheers,

Salacia

I think carpet fitters usually recommend not vacuuming them for a period of time after fitting. So far I'm impressed. So much better than my voyage prior to Dry Dock. It's like a completely different ship and I'm enjoying it!

In one of the photos I see that they kept the two US outlets that used to be hidden behind the TV (the TV was plugged into one but the second was there if you knew about it). Now they're both in plain sight!

I assume the electric kettle has a UK 220 volt plug?

Hi Gary,

I'm not on twitter so don't think I can comment there.

Thanks for the many, many photos of the marvelous new interiors you've posted. The very best photos that I've seen so far of the refit (by a long way :) ).

I am amazed that Cunard haven't been swamping us with picture after picture (maybe once QM2 gets to New York?)

Any chance that you are able to post individual photos in a larger scale so I can see details? Four posted together in a block means they are too small for these ancient eyes of mine, my fault :( .

I also enjoyed the video of the Fire Doors being closed remotely (by officers on the bridge)(not, I believe, "watertight doors").

Keep up the great work, looking forward to seeing more, thanks again.

HEY Gary,

Hi guys. First - all three Queens are coming in to Southampton in the morning. We're in the middle but Captain Wells doesn't yet know who is advanced escort and who is bringing up the rear. Our ETA 06:30. There should be a fire tender spraying water to celebrate #QM2Remastered. I'm deck 8 stateroom 8057. The milk is UHT capsules in the stateroom. I shall post larger photos when I'm home. Roscoe - just realised I didn't pick up the coasters with my cocktail tonight :( Peppern - I think the closing of the fire/water tight doors was a cunning plan to stop passengers using the single stateroom corridor as a cut through as that one is still tightly shut (that's the one I videoed and is on YouTube). They also roped off deck 13 too after I filmed that. Not that I was the only curious passenger!! Godiva is in Sir Samuels. I have no idea what a craps table is - but gamblers where gathered around a table of some description. If anyone on the same cruise as me in the future could teach me the casino - I would love that! The session Cunard offers is always on at the same time as something else. Today it was Maureen Ryan's lecture and seeing as I'm sitting next to her at dinner I thought I shouldn't miss it! I'm lucky to also sit with the other insight speaker George McGhee who is very entertaining and knowledgable. Happy cruising everyone!

Hi Gary. I'm not part of the TwitterVerse, but I have been reading your tweets. I noticed the hashtags and wondered if that meant you were a 'guest of Cunard'. Hope you don't mind my asking. Thanks, -S.

I'll happily teach you the survival-level basics of craps (on your nickel!). :) It would be all the thrill for me with none of the pain.

A craps table has this layout (with some variation from casino to casino):

Hi Salacia. No I'm a fair paying passenger ++++ due to the single supplement! Hash tags are used by people to search on Twitter and to popularise a topic and #QM2Remastered is what Cunard choose.

Underwatr I took a video of the Casino this morning so will upload as soon as I can.

Thanks, Gary. I'm enjoying your photos, especially the latest one taken on Deck 14 as the ship headed into the fog - very evocative!

Cheers,

Salacia
