Can't bring soda on board anymore

I can tell every single time. :D

Guess it's time to figure out something else to drink while cruising (and, don't mention fruity cocktails as I'm allergic to most fruit which totally blows  and is why I stick to the Rum/Coke as my go-to).

Silly that this actually annoyed me. smh I must be getting old :p

If you put enough rum in it, rum and Pepsi isn't too horrible. ;)

I made a rum and Pepsi in a big glass and did 1/3 rum and 2/3 Pepsi - no ice. It was gross at first, but by the time I finished my drink, it was just fine!

This is really disconcerting. I literally booked yesterday. I appreciated the ability to bring on canned pop for the access to coke products. This is our first foray off DCL. The base cruise fare is just so high. Kinda glad i havent cancelled my DCL cruise yet though. Really not used to the nickel and diming. It may all equal out, in which case I'll stick with Disney standards. Not happy that central resservations didnt give me any heads up about a possible policy change.

They haven't said you can bring aboard empty bottles . I guess that's in the next edict .

Regardless I will be bringing a couple of empty bottles with me .

Yet another stupid change. Once again though, it doesn't affect me, since I've never carried any pop/water on board NCL. As usual, as long as the changes don't personally hurt me, I have no reason to change my own cruise plans, but I don't blame anyone who does. I keep saying that one of these days there will be one that DOES affect me personally, but so far I've been lucky.

This is bad, but not nearly as bad as last year when DCL stopped letting alcohol be carried on board. That one would have sent me running for the hills, and is a big reason I probably won't sail them again. :p

I wonder if the ban also has to do with the porters and luggage handlers carting so many cases of water on board? NCL is going to change their policies at a moments notice and it is their cruise line. Thankfully I am not brand loyal and will look for the best cruise for my family on a variety of cruise lines or start taking more land based vacations.

That only applies if you go to buffet to fill that bottle from the drink dispenser one glass at the time (as the rules are).

The liquid coming out from taps has significant amount of chlorine (because of regulations) and having one bottle that gets filled out from there and waiting for hours to the chlorine to dissolve just isn't very convenient.

Tap water onboard just is not a valid replacement to chlorineless bottled water, for example the chlorine is a known cause for water retention and it just tastes bad (you don't drink from a chlorinated pool either, do you? :D ).

Wow! How much does a bottle of water cost on the ship? I'm seriously thinking about picking up a case to bring. I can just put a luggage tag on it and drop it off with the porter, same as my Diet Cokes, right?

Yes you can since the policy kicks in July 15 and you are sailing before that..... this is NCL's policy but I would check your departure port to see if they have instituted their own "no checked water \ soda" policy as some have.

This was still not answered: about $5 + 18% for either 1 litre bottle of still water of 0,75 litre bottle of sparkling water - little more from the mini bar in the cabin.

Perhaps they just realised people were smuggling on vodka in water bottles?

Instead of trying to smuggle it in plain sight, rum runners are much simpler and pretty much foolproof way to smuggle any liquors.

Maybe they won't enforce it consistently. I sailed RCL this past winter and although it was stated in the policy that bottled water or canned beverages were not allowed, I had read here on Cruise Critic that people were doing it. We gave it a try, and the water was delivered to our cabin - no problems. I'll live in hope! (And monitor the CC boards).

They can be and are detected frequently so I wouldn't say that they are foolproof.

Really are we all that surprised? We all knew it was in the working it was just a matter of time
I was always surprised that they allowed people to bring on their own soda/water in the first place (in unlimited quantities, and not for medical/childcare reasons). And surprised that they allowed people to check in cases of water/soda as luggage.

So giving people 15 days notice to go from the "slap a luggage tag on it" mentality to "zero tolerance" is pretty brutal. I think they could let the uproar build for a few days, and then appear to back down by stating some modest allowance for carried-on beverages (like Carnival currently has, 12 cans), and making it a rule that people have to carry it on themselves.

I can't even fathom the amount of cases of pop and water that will be left at the pier from people who didn't get the memo (assuming there is a memo, which there probably won't be, if history shows anything.)

I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Most people now have the UBP, and for free, which includes your sodas. Granted that doesn't cover water, but still ... we carried water onboard once. It was a hassle, and I personally would rather just buy it onboard.

Another reason to love CAS, bottled water comes with your drink card and I get canned soda from my casino tier. I will just have to order extras when playing.

Though I am a Pepsi fan it does suck for people who love coke products.

Those of us that refuse to set foot in the casino will never benefit from cas perks....but I'm ok with that

Thank you for the comments about water retention. I cannot drink any ships water. It has to be bottled because of this exact reason. They will next probably put a monitor on water consumption in the cabins, and governors on the ac/heat. So glad I am not sailing with them ever again.
