lizzyplague Posted August 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Depends on the specifics at the time but they just go to different ports and/or add sea days if a hurricane poses a risk. Edited August 4, 2016 by lizzyplague
CharlesKru Posted August 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Carnival will not go into the hurricane. As long as you can get to the port, and on the ship you will have a cruise that is at least as long as you booked. You might go different ports, you might go out into the Atlantic and then back to port after the number of days.. They do not want to risk their multi-million dollar vessels by going anywhere near a hurricane, so they will just take the floating hotel somewhere else. If you are unfortunately enough to be getting on the ship at a port that is in the path the day you would board, your cruise will be cut at least 1 day shorter, and you can board the next day. If it is really bad, they might move the port to some place safer... Hope that helps.
Micahs Grandad Posted August 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Dont count on itinerary you booked anything that can happen including a cruise to nowhere.
ober134 Posted August 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2016 That's the risk booking a fall Caribbean cruise, and generally why it's cheapest time to sail. We got stuck out to sea an extra day... out of harm's way. Although next cruise sailing lost a day. They received OBC and some short of voucher for future cruise. Our travel plans home were a bit of a hassle, but in the end we were safe, and had great time. Keep an open mind, don't stress if something changes - no one can predict mother nature. I'm booked in October this year... not afraid, just aware it's possible (however unlikely) a tropical storm may impact. But price was too good to keep us away. Brittasbay Posted August 4, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2016 We did a Bahamas cruise where there was a hurricane. They just dropped one port and added another. So instead of going to Nassau we went to Key West. It worked out great. Just be aware this can happen at anytime, they are going to keep the ship and passengers safe. You will have a blast.:D
asalligo Posted August 4, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Batten down the hatches mateys, we are going the other direction of this storm.

RuthlessBoss Posted August 4, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Anyone remember a ship that was supposed to go to Canada but were "forced" to go to Bermuda? Some people were upset though.

kelib Posted August 4, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Were sailing Vista 12 August 2017, Southern Caribbean. Is there a big chance there are hurricane around at that time?? It is Hurricane season so there is a chance fir one, and even if not a full blown Hurricane you could possibly get a Tropical Depression/Storm. It is that time of year with NO WAY of predicting what the season will bring. That is why it is critical that time of year that trip insurance also covers changes in flights just in case you get diverted and have to make other travel arrangements. kylesplash Posted August 4, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Booked for the Bahamas in Sept. What will Carnival do if there's a threat of hurricane? The worst part of a hurricane is going to an island parallel of the hurricanes path and getting rained on the entire time... My last cruise it rained the entire day we were at Nassau. Good news we were at a water park, and there was no lightning. All it did was make the temperature lower and reduced our chance of sunburns. Than is the classic caribbean cruise on the Miracle that went to somewhere in S Carolina and than up to Boston and almost had a mutiny among the passengers. cb at sea Posted August 4, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 4, 2016 If there is a "threat", it will be watched, and the ship will take evasive action!
OCruisers Posted August 4, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 4, 2016 The worst is when a tropical disturbance is hitting your embarkation port.

WetToes Posted August 4, 2016 #20 Share Posted August 4, 2016 There is also the possibility that the cruise could be canceled. We had an Oct. cruise, booked a few years back, that never happened. We were well compensated.

Zeta3 Posted August 4, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Last year we were on an eastern Caribbean cruise sandwiched between Danny and Erika. Our itinerary got all changed around but we had great weather and a great time anyway.
myfuzzy Posted August 5, 2016 #23 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Oh wow! That would have been a huge disappointment for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Actually.....we do live in western Pennsylvania and had looked into the NE cruises out of NY, but were a bit pricey. So, we got a more expensive cruise to places we never had been...St Johns NB, Bar Harbor and Glouster (sp?). On the way up it was a tad bouncy, but we survived. I always take a pair of sweats, sweater, medium jacket where ever we go....you never know.....but there was a lot of people PO'd, because they wanted their golf and beaches. Actually, change ups are sometimes a good thing.
dolphin8497 Posted August 5, 2016 #24 Share Posted August 5, 2016 We were booked on Royal Caribbean Empress of the Seas when Katrina rolled in. We were suppose to sail from Fort Lauderdale, they moved us to Tampa for embarkation (with royal Caribbean busing anyone who had flights to fort lauderdale over to tampa). We missed Key West and received a $50 obc per person. We had great weather every day with really rocky waves ones night. Family was more worried about us from home than we were being on the ship. mafig Posted August 5, 2016 #25 Share Posted August 5, 2016 One thing to be aware of is that if a hurricane is in the area, the airports are the first to be closed. Keep that in mind.;)
