ilovetotravel1977 Posted August 5, 2016 #27 Share Posted August 5, 2016 A pocket. Lanyards look ridiculous and are uncomfortable, the wrist things ditto, and both make anyone "look old" which as an aging person I try to avoid :). I buy swimsuits that have a pocket or two. My current suits have a velcro pocket on the butt that works perfectly for my S&S card, and I can confirm that these cards are unaffected by water exposure or being repeatedly sat upon! :p How does a lanyard or wrist thing make someone look old? Women's swimsuits do not have pockets. Both comments offer no value to the OP.
meatloafsfan Posted August 5, 2016 #28 Share Posted August 5, 2016 I usually get one of the bungee cords from the casino. Of course, I spent a lot of time in the casino and those types of cords make sure that as I move from machine to machine (or even occasionally out of the casino), that my card always come with me (I clip it to my shirt). For this next trip since it's a big family thing, I plan to spend less time in the casino so I've got lanyards for everyone. They make losing the card more difficult and I like to hang my lanyard / cord up in the cabin (where they keep the breakfast cards or snoozing cards) so they are easy to remember and grab on my way out of the cabin. What if you have a bathing suit that isn't big enough to fit a S&S card? [emoji41]

You're welcome to disagree, and you do, so there we are! No point getting mad at each other over it is there. My wife hates lanyards as well and settles for the "honey can you please put my card in your pocket" method of transport :p. When you're in a pool or something do you just leave the lanyard sitting out on your towel or whatever? I'd feel that someone would nick it but that's just me being a worrier I guess. Cuizer2 Posted August 5, 2016 #35 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Question for experienced cruisers? How do you carry your sign and sail card? Do they provide some kind of lanyard with card holder? Or do people put them in their wallets? I'm imagining wanting to wander around the ship without a purse, and my kids don't usually carry wallets, so how do people keep their cards on them? Actually, because our room reservations don't match where we will actually be sleeping, both my oldest son and I are going to have to carry two cards with us -- one for charging and one for access to the room we are sleeping in. So double the consideration. ;-) Just put them in your pocket. Wear swim suits with pockets, the cards can get wet with no problem. For two cards I would use rolling luggage. You can also have a hole punched in the card and wear it around your neck. For two card, use a backpack to help distribute the weight.

Just a weak attempt at light, very light, humor on my part....you are correct, it should stop. bar1068 Posted August 5, 2016 #38 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Sail & Sign card goes in the pocket... I've never understood the fascination people have with wearing them around their necks... Where is this "fascination" you speak of? OP asked how folks carry around their s&s cards....some say pockets...same say lanyards...a choice....nothing more...nothing less....However this site is notorious for making huge issues out of innocuous topics such as the use of lanyards to carry around s&s cards.

I hear folks say things like "well I'm on vacation and I'll never see these people again so who cares what I look like" but you wouldn't dress up like a clown and go walking around downtown and you'll probably never see any of *those* people again either :). (No a lanyard does not make you look like a clown, I'm just using hyperbole because I'm silly and this is a silly fun discussion on the internet.) Still, follow your bliss; if a lanyard is your thing then bless your heart. Hell I don't wear sweat pants or cargo shorts either and plenty of folks love those to bits. And who am I to talk about fashion because I occasionally wear a My Little Pony t-shirt that my nieces gave me a couple years back, but I mainly wear that to embarrass said nieces, which I consider a noble goal :D Edited August 5, 2016 by tofinochris

firemanbobswife Posted August 5, 2016 #42 Share Posted August 5, 2016 When I am off the ship I do wear an outfit with pockets or if I'm going to the beach, I bring a beach bag. If I am getting in the water and I'm by myself I have a waterproof vault I bring and attach it to me. I only wear my lanyard on the ship.
First and Ten Posted August 5, 2016 #43 Share Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Funny Lanyard story....at the pool bar and this woman comes up, wearing the S&S card around her neck. It wasn't a typical lanyard but the ones you get from the casino. They are the ones that look like a landline phone handset cord. She proceeds to tell everyone around her while she is waiting for her drink that she has the issue solved of having to clumsily take the card out of the lanyard. That she just stands by the cash register and let the bartender slide the card....easy peasy. Literally at the same time the bartender slides her card, lets go of it, it snaps back, hits her in the side of her head and she drops the pina colada all over the bar....classic!!!! :D Edited August 5, 2016 by First and Ten
TX Catty Cruiser Posted August 5, 2016 #44 Share Posted August 5, 2016 I personally use a small camera case with a shoulder strap. FYI ...I have seen hints advising to bring a Command hook to put on the door at eye level so you remember to take the lanyard with you. Might be a good idea for the kids cabin. (some also suggest a magnetic hook)

maldenmusic Posted August 5, 2016 #48 Share Posted August 5, 2016 We use the first lanyards we from the casino and just bring them back each cruise. They are plastic anyway and don't need to be in the pouch. I just attach the metal clip to the card via the hole that is already there when I get my card or the one I punch while waiting to board. I bring my own. Takes up no space and I don't have to hunt anyone down. I'm ready to go before I step foot on the ship!
