Changing a family member after final payment

Recommended Posts

We are going on the Liberty in early December with our parents so final payment is coming up very shortly, but our father is ill and may or may not be able to go. This trip is for our parents so we want to allow for every possibility of him going, but after we make final payment can another family member be substituted in his cabin or does Royal Caribbean charge you for a new person at the prevailing rate and the money for our father's fare would be forfeited.

I understand we can purchase insurance but I wanted to get clarity on this question.

Absolutely no problem switching his name out for someone else. As long as one of the original people booked in the cabin remains on the booking, you can change other name(s).

Your father's illness is now considered a pre-existing condition. Therefore in order to have a pre-existing waiver included the policy would have had to have been purchased 10-14 days (varies by policy) from the date of the initial booking.

RCCL's insurance will not work in the event your father cancels. You'd have to find a policy that has a "Cancel For Any Reason" clause and would most likely have to be purchased prior to final payment. Additionally most policies that have a cancel for any reason clause generally only reimburse 70%. You can check the following website for insurance but doubt it will cover cancelation due to illness.

I'm curious, why would Royals insurance not cover her father. According to their website they have a cancel for any reason.

Ok thanks! That's good to know...I've always went with Royals insurance.

Royal's insurance also does not cover independently booked airfare and has a low (my opinion) emergency evacuation limit.

Thanks for letting me know! I'll definitely find other insurance next time.
