klizzyboo Posted August 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Hi! I haven't been on a cruise since last October, but last year I could access iMessage and Snapchat from the $5 social package. Now I am hearing that you can't access either. I am leaving September 3rd and would like to know what I am up against. I really just need iMessage to be able to keep up with work (although I'm not interested enough to pay more than $5 a day as I won't get reimbursed). Also, if I can't auto use these, do I have another option... VPN etc?
Ruby0704 Posted August 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2016 We are not sailing until October so if or when you find out can you please post. I know I have read where Snapchat doesn't work now but I was thinking that Imessage should still work.
poobears Posted August 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2016 This is from their website: Social ($5 USD per day) – Access the most popular websites and applications. Includes: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Does not include access to other websites or apps. poobears Posted August 23, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2016 So is this: VPN connections are not supported - discuss your VPN limitations with your company’s IT department if you are planning to work while sailing. We are not able to change your settings onboard.
RecoveryDude Posted August 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2016 I typically get social package ... HOWEVER, when I cruise in October I gotta worry about taking care of my Fantasy Football lineup so I need access to "more" than the social package allows. My Question: for those that have used to 2nd tier "value" package ... does that allow access to "any" app? I know I can't stream video, but will it give me access to my ESPN Fantasy app to set my lineup? what about snapchat? Thanks! Also, I heard the prices went up and are no longer a little cheaper if you but the whole cruise, can anyone confirm?
klizzyboo Posted August 24, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted August 24, 2016 I obviously read what was posted on their website, as I am not an idiot. However... for the people that do not take everything at face value... my massage lady is on a cruise right now and she has been opening my snaps. I'll let y'all know when I hear more from her! Organized Chaos Posted August 24, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2016 We were on the Conquest in June. iMessages worked just fine on the Social plan. We text each other on the ship and family members back home using iMessage. If you purchase the plan on the first day for the entirety of the cruise, you'll get a discounted price. What would've normally been $25 for the Social plan on our 5-day was only $18.
wallygator21015 Posted August 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2016 Carnival WiFi Price Increase Two weeks ago on the Carnival Pride, I paid $60. dollars for (7) nights, for the WiFi Value Plan. Yesterday, I boarded the Carnival Splendor and I paid $72. dollars for (6) nights, for the WiFi Value Plan. Checked with Guest Services and given new WiFi price increases. Social Plan $5. Per day $30. / 6 day cruise Value Plan $16. Per day $72. / 6 day cruise Premium Plan $25. Per day $119. / 6 day cruise Sent from my iPad using Forums
Organized Chaos Posted August 24, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2016 Social Plan $5. Per day $30. / 6 day cruise Value Plan $16. Per day $72. / 6 day cruise Premium Plan $25. Per day $119. / 6 day cruise The per day price for each plan ($5, $16, & $25) hasn't changed. Those were the prices when we cruised in June and that's what they've been since they changed over from the old style wifi options. So I guess they just changed the price when you purchase wifi for the entirety of your cruise. It still pays to go to carnivalwifi.com once you're on board your first day to take advantage of the discounted rate if you get one of the plans for the entirety of the cruise. So, people go on cruises to job hunt? Cruise Critic, why don't you get yourself included on this list? I bet a lot more people would go on CC during their cruise than go on Linkedin or Pinterest. :)

coevan Posted September 20, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 20, 2016 The answers are all over the place. My wife started with the social package and could NOT access Facebook, no internet at all. Imessage did work for texting. She switched to the mid level package and everything work, albeit AOL dial up slow. I bought the premium package and still not impressed with speed, slower than 3G, faster than dial up.
coevan Posted September 20, 2016 #15 Share Posted September 20, 2016 P.S. I play Fanduel and love it. For some stupid reason CCL blocked it, when i asked guest services, they told me all gambling sites are blocked. My argument that Fanduel is not gambling went on deaf ears. marjenn Posted September 20, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 20, 2016 That's good to know about FanDuel not working. I actually use DraftKings but now I know not to plan on getting into any tournaments while on my cruise in October.

Drose716 Posted September 21, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 21, 2016 I had the social package in January, but I don't personally have an iPhone. I did speak to someone sitting at a bar one evening & they mentioned they had the package & imessage was a hit or miss situation for them.

Rare Honolulu Blue Posted September 21, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 21, 2016 I play Fanduel and love it. For some stupid reason CCL blocked it, when i asked guest services, they told me all gambling sites are blocked. My argument that Fanduel is not gambling went on deaf ears. The "stupid" reason is probably the same as why only a few alcoholic beverages are allowed to be carried on board - they have a casino, and would much prefer you spend your $$$ there. As for arguing with a GS rep about blocked sites, that decision was made far above their pay grade and he/she had no chance to undo it. I'd suggest writing a letter to Mr. Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corp. I wouldn't bet on anything happening, but if a few thousand others make their feelings known, they might actually do something.

That doesn't just mean porn either. For example, I use an app called Untappd, which tracks craft beers. It is considered adult in nature and is blocked. ESPN fantasy app should work. I have used the Yahoo fantasy app on board with no issues. Hope this helps.
