Venice cruise terminal to Marco Polo airport

Our ship arrives in Venice at 9:00 am. Planning to take a taxi to the airport. We are flying to Copenhagen and have three options: flight at 11:10, at noon and at 4:05 pm. I'm sure the airport will be a veritable zoo. Which option is the most practical? TIA.

 

We usually take the train from Venice and have not had the experience of flying out of VCE.

the budget/low cost airlines don't usually open their check in desks till 2 hours before the flight and easy jet uses the ground floor

this means hanging around pre security with crowds of people and no where to sit

OK those are scheduled airlines so will have their own check in desks which should open 3 hours prior[budget airlines share desks so only open up 2 hours prior]

 

Marco polo airport has a reputation for disorganisation and allowing time for getting through security after check in bag drop is best to err on side of caution!

 

I would aim for noon flight and pre book a taxi from the cruise terminal which will take 20 minutes

We'll check our bags at Piazzale Rome, have a nice lunch in Venice and take the bus to the airport. A couple of hours in Venice is always a special treat. We know where to go to avoid the crowds.

I think you have made the correct decision. If there are any delays in the departure chain you could have issues on the earlier flights. Stress is going to be high enough on departure day without adding to it unneccessarily.

Thank you, hallasm. That's a great option but we'll probably have lunch somewhere close to Piazzale Roma and take the bus to the airport. We'll have luggage so want to do the least amount of dragging suitcases up and down. Fortunately we travel light.

Take the Blue line Alilaguna, which has a stop right at the Hilton. Same line one or two more stops, is the cruise ship terminal. So you would take the Blue line both ways.

 

The Alilaguna is a public water bus...just like a public land bus line. You don't make reservations. You just buy a ticket and get on the next one with available room.

You do not need to reserve - You can either buy tickets at the pier /Ticket office) or on-line at http://www.alilaguna.it/en/ - here you can also find time tables and map.

 

For the Hilton Molino Stucky on Giudecca you have four options from Marco Polo Venice airport (VCE)-

1. Take bus nb. 5 to Venice Bus Station (Piazzale Roma) and from here two options - take ACTV public waterbus nb. 2 or 4.1 direction Giudecca-San Marco and get off at bus stop Palanga located on Giudecca. You can also take a water taxi from - cost approximately €20 - this will take about 1 hour

2. Take Alilaguna Waters bus form Marco Polo Airport to Giudecca (€15) - last stop before airport - bus stop Stucky.

3. The most expensive options are either a water taxi from Marco Polo to Stucky or

4. alternatively a taxi from Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma and then ACTV/waters taxi to Giudecca.

 

Once at your hotel you can take shuttle boat or water bus to St. Marc's Square.'

From your hotel to the cruise port the Alilaguna water bus (€8 pp) or a water taxi (€ 20)

we used taxi-finder.com which is a third party worldwide company which takes your details and contacts local companies which generate quotes which you can accept

 

The actual company was Conegliano limoservice coneglianolimoservice@gmail.com

 

Cost for the 2 of us from cruise port[was waiting with a sign with my name] was 35 euros which was payable to the driver-no deposit required

journey took 20 minutes

 

I don't know whether they do larger vehicles to accommodate your party of 6 or whether you would need 2 standard size taxis

Hi! We're trying to decide, based on cost, whether to do the Princess transfer or to take a taxi from our cruise ship to the Marco Polo Airport. If anyone has done this in the past year or so, I'd appreciate the taxi cost. This will be in November, hopefully no crowds, if that makes a difference in choice. Thanks!

Around 40 Euro. If you are overnighting the day before departure there will be taxi/limo representatives at the terminal taking reservations for the next morning. If you have more than 2 people or lots of luggage you can set up a mini van rather than a car. They meet you at the terminal exit at the agreed time and help with luggage to the vehicle which will be parked nearby.

Quick questions:

 

Is it reasonable to think if stated boat docking time is 5am I would be able to make a 10:40 direct flight back to the states from Civitavecchia port to Rome airport? Guess thats why they arrive at 5am instead of 7am to accommodate those early flights?

The ship might dock at 5am, but that doesn't mean you can get off at 5:05. We docked at 4:45, nobody got off until 7:15. Recent reports say this has improved some. But the very common recommendation, discussed here regularly, is no flights before 11am.

A direct flight to the States, on a US-branded airline (American, Delta or United) departs from the high security Terminal 5 at FCO and you must be there three hours prior to flight time, or 7:40 AM in this case.

 

With a private car and driver it will take 45 - 60 minutes to get to T5 from the port at Civitavecchia, so you'd need to be off the ship and on the road by 6:40 AM. It's possible, but you might not be able to get off that early.
