Norovirus outbreak on Vista

Unconfirmed in news media, but several comments on social media, it's being reported that an outbreak of Norovirus has occurred on Carnivals flagship Vista.

The cruise directors frequent announcements to sanitise hands and staff wearing face masks suggests they are doing the right thing to contain.

Not a nice experience if proven to be true.

Anyone on board able to confirm?

I am on the cruise now...there have been lots of announcements about hand washing and cleaning being done.

However, there has never been an issue in the Marketplace with using the tongs or serving ourselves.

There was a rumor that several people that ate dinner together in Athens before boarding were sick, but like I said, it could be a rumor.

Rumors and speculations seem to run rampant on a ship. It could very well have been a group got together and drank to much Ouzo.

They don't say what is going on and they don't put scarlet letters on peoples cabins who are sick.

So, no, there is NO Outbreak

Fingers crossed then. Certainly a good sign you're able to serve yourself.

As I said in the OP, it was unconfirmed and was asking for anyone onboard to respond to confirm or otherwise. Hopefully it stays that way.

Too much ouzo will make anyone sick:eek::rolleyes:

I recall being warned by the USN to not eat the gyros the street vendors sold in Athens. And every time we pulled into port the Captain would pull out the old myth of some Brit sailor drinking a whole bottle of ouzo and collapsing, never to wake up again.:D

Hopefully it's just an isolated incident on the Vista. The ship's basically a small town and people get sick all the time in small towns. You don't quarantine the whole town every time they do.

Never been on one with an outbreak and hopefully never will be. Glad to hear this one seems to be a false alarm. Sounds more like a group got food poisoning at port. Hopefully they fully recover, having had some severe food poisoning myself, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Ouzo-yuck. My husband drinks it everytime we are in Greece. Hope the ship stays well.

I was on the oct 11th sailing on the 8th floor. Found out from one of the cabin attendants that norovirus was on the 8th floor, back end. Thankfully we were at the front on 8th and didn't catch anything.

OK, thanks for confirming there was indeed Noro onboard.

Glad you were unscathed and it seems it was contained.

According to a review on another site it was not noro but salmonella from eggs served at a hotel breakfast buffet. About 20 passengers stayed at the same hotel before the cruise and they were all affected.

Whatever it is, I hope those on board now are not affected.

Just remember if by some unfortunate chance you are on a cruise someday with a Noro outbreak, "A bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work".:)

In this case no. If you've ever had Noro then you would know you want to die. Just lay down and die. I would rather be at work than that sick ever again. My DD got the bug on our cruise, different line and several years ago. We kept her contained and managed to get her home. My first day home I was getting ready for work and that was it. I was down for the count. It is bad. Our cruise is lovingly called the Death Cruise.

I agree with you 100%. I would rather be at work also.

I was being facetious. I always read that line about a bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work and feel they must have some pretty bad jobs to say that.:)

While we have never "had the pleasure", we have skirted before and after outbreaks and were very happy to do so.

Our cruise with the Noro outbreak we stayed in our cabin a lot and when we did go to eat or anything we washed our hands quite often.

What always had me scratching my head is how they kept the casino open. People at the tables handling chips back and forth, different people touching the buttons on the slot machines, etc.

Not a germaphobe but sure don't want to get sick, but who does.

We did the Spirit on an Alaskan cruise and had Carnival transfers from the airport to the ship (Vancouver). He drove all over Vancouver and stopped for pictures in Lord Stanley park. The trip is normally around 15 minutes and this was 2 hours later. I went up and asked the driver if we were taken hostage and he explained (then not before) that he was instructed nit to go to the pier until cleared (post noro scrub down). We did notice extra precautions during that entire cruise (extra staff on lido doling stuff out and many reminders on washing. Thankfully our cruise was fine.....

I beleve we were notified the day before not to come to the pier until later because the ship coming in had an out break. We got there later as instructed but they delayed again. OK cool as long as the ship is cleaned and we are good to go I'm good with that. We finally started boarding around 7pm and left around 9 or 10pm.

We were informed we would get an OBC for missing dinner and that Princess Cays would be missed tomorrow but we would get to Curacao earlier and get extra time there.

Unfortunately we had a bigger outbreak than the week before and were ordered back to FLL where we left from before we ever got to an island.

We wound up with a 5 day cruise to nowhere and got all of our money back plus they provided airfare home since we came back earlier.

All in all I would have rather been in work that week.:)
