For the NCL rep , the work around is changing the birthdate of one of the minors so they are at least 21. that allows you to login and set up checkin ..

After checking in online change the birthdate of that minor back so it matches

their boarding credentials.. Easy peasy ;)

NCL rep school 101

Have you tried this? I initially booked mine online then I had to call NCL to fix it because this was not allowed online. See my post above about calling and having NCL fix it.

This doesn't work. Nice try though. great minds think alike :)

I don't think mpk218 was saying you should do this yourself (I would not recommend for people to create bookings with fake personal info…) But the workaround for NCL agents is to enter a fake birthdate for one child to get the system to accept the booking. This has been reported by many people in the past, and apparently that's still how they do it, given what mpk218 said.

I think by now everyone in this thread has a deep understanding of NCL's written policy. And I declare yours to be the deepest of all.

So, do you have any advice for the OP?

Actually I do have advice regarding this policy but everyone seems to lose their minds when I bring it up.

To the OP I would look into the H6/BD category or any other category that has a connecting room to a Haven suite and book the adults in the Suite and the kids in the balcony and then everyone gets haven access/privileges.

Is it worth a few extra bucks for that type of booking? Hell yes.

Hawk, is that deep enough for you?

It's not a bad idea, if the configuration exists on the OP's ship. However, the OP is evidently booking 2 insides (since they only talk about getting one perk per cabin), and the reason they want to book the kids in their own room is to avoid the "dramatic cost" of losing the internet perk or free gratuities for 2 people. So I don't think upgrading to a Haven + balcony combo is going to be a good solution here.

Your probably right but I think it should be pointed out for people who would like that configuration and the added in perks.

No they stated you were required to have a 21 yo in every cabin and that is not true per NCL's written policy.

Sorry, I wasn't necessarily totally agreeing with Birdtravels as I can read the link I posted. I just meant it was officially true in the OP's case.

I think the H6/BD combo is perfectly acceptable as they connect, the PCC's know how to override the system for these and other connecting cabins. In my opinion this whole mess started because of the parents in a suite, kids in a non-suite issue where the cabins weren't connecting as this is a more common situation. I seem to remember first hearing of this bending of the rules for suites only when the promos first started. Then is seemed like any cabins could do it as long as they were "close". Many of these circumstances seem to involve changing birth dates. That is probably why NCL is trying to reign the practice in.

It still amazes me that 18 year olds can serve in the military, but can't be booked beside their parents on a cruise ship!

I've always found that analogy amusing...

Let them join the military then and I'm sure NCL won't have a problem occupying a cabin as an adult with their military ID just as the other occupant is not a minor.

I am still waiting for a supervisor return call. We'd love to have one balcony and one inside across the hall, but again, since originally we were also told side by side would be permissible, we stuck with the insides. There were not connecting cabins available, we asked that too. I will call again tomorrow, then maybe give up. I am holding celebrity cabins without any of these hassles for the same week, but thought the perks and price were worthy of the switch. I appreciate knowing we are not the only ones ncl is picking on and suspect we will just use another cruise line for the next 3 years, or until policy changes again.

Correct, it is spelled out that if under 21 and married or in active duty they can book their own rooms on a cruise ship.

Many people think just because they are of the minimum age to serve in the military that automatically gives them the same respect and privileges of the very few that do step up and serve.

Step up, raise your right hand, swear the oath, serve and then get back to us.

Starting this summer they drastically changed their procedures and now will absolutely only let you do with someone 21 and older in the room with them. It is a huge hassle because no, my kids don't need a soda package. I understand it must have been for legal reasons. It is frustrating, but no amount of supervisors can change this one. I feel your pain.

I think most people are aware that once on board you can redistribute the passengers in your group however you like. Which is why the rule is kind of pointless in the first place, and the fact that so many people in the past have been able to book their kids in a separate room without an adult over 21 seems to prove that there is no legal or liability issue.

However, any changes you make to your cabin occupancy on board have no effect on how your booking perks are distributed. Which is why this problem now has financial consequences for some passengers.

I can't help but wonder if NCL has decided to tighten up their rule specifically because of the Free At Sea perks, to reduce the value of the promo for customers in the OP's situation, by forcing them to waste the UBP option on two kids. (Yes, I know, no one is "forcing" anyone to do anything and the kids do at least get the soda package, but most people would choose a more valuable perk for the kids' room if they were allowed to book a kids' room.)

Perhaps NCL makes more money off enforcing the policy, but I still don't think that is the reason for the possible recent stricter enforcement. PCC's need to sell cruises. As with any larger corporation I think NCL has had trouble with the PCC's bending the rules with supervisors cooperating or looking the other way. Now some savvy cruisers know they can even do it themselves with a little birth date change here and there. As you can see posters say they will book with another cruise line if they can't book it their way.

The only reason I can see NCL having a policy they know hurts bookings is for liability reasons. If a passenger changes the room arrangements after booking that is very different than NCL booking it that way when a negligence lawsuit is filed.

I agree. If something happens and the passengers had switched and put their minor children in one room without an adult, then NCL is off the hook as far as any lawsuits.

Still not true when it comes to connecting cabins. It was done very recently, I know this for a fact.

Was this comment directed at me? I was responding to the comment where the posted hoped those serving in the military wouldn't encounter the same issues. Just become someone is 18 and the same age as a member of the armed services does not mean those two individuals are the same and I 100% agree that the respect and privileges are earned by members of the armed services and/or uniformed services.

Thanks for the confirmation that its not worth my time to continue fighting and that its new for this past summer. I moved on and booked Celebrity without any problem - balcony and an inside. It will be a great trip too.

That's too bad! I booked the Dec 17, 2016 sailing on Escape just a few weeks ago and booked the DDs next to us in a side by side balcony. They will be 20 and 16 at sailing. Sailed the Getaway June 26 this summer with two 16 y/o's and it was the NCL rep who suggested setting the girls up in their own room due to the UBP. Again, side by side balconies. They used the birthday change for booking but changed the date back when finished. The inconsistencies don't make sense.

Casino Comp Chick- great advise! Not sure why it pisses people off so bad. It's NCL's ship, they have every right to offer this situation.
