How to save money without Cheers the first day?

Use your carry-on bottle, drink a full glass/bottle of water between each drink.

Win/win .. you will alleviate your thirst so you don't drink your cocktail so fast, and you will be extra-hydrated to curb a lot of the hangover. ☺

And besides that, assuming that you don't take a drink with you, you will spend a lot more time in the restroom which will reduce your drinking time and cost.

Agree.

I have been on 4 cruises. Have not purchased even one drink. I am not a teetotaler by any stretch....I just don't need alcohol to relax or have a good time. I feel bad for those that do. And I just cannot fathom myself spending hundreds of dollars (or more) for booze on a cruise.

Why,you smuggle weed on instead ?

Get shots... I'm pretty sure you can't get them with Cheers anyway.

Actually you can. As long as they are not doubles, or in a souvenir glass (except for that one shot that is $60....

So order double shots. :)

[Last Barman poem]

"I see America drinking the fabulous cocktails I make

Americans getting stinky on something I stir or shake

The sex on the beach

The schnapps made from peach

The velvet hammer

The Alabama slammer.

I make things with juice and froth

The pink squirrel

The three-toed sloth.

I make drinks so sweet and snazzy

The iced tea

The kamakazi

The orgasm

The death spasm

The Singapore sling

The dingaling.

America you've just been devoted to every flavor I got

But if you want to got loaded

Why don't you just order a shot?"

Stay up all night. Do not eat. Get on ship as late as possible. Board ship, drop off bags, grab something to eat, go to safety drill, have one hard stiff drink and go to bed.

We Did this by accident and it worked like a charm. LOL!

That was my quote. And regardless how YOU ARE NOW JUDGING ME now, it won't change how I FEEL. I truly do feel bad for people that have to have alcohol to relax and/or have fun.

And I agree with the guy above. Not buying ridiculously overpriced alcohol (via single drinks or cheers package) on a cruise ship is definitely a way to save money. A lot of money in some cases. And that was the basic question.

I posted a general response to a misquote... But since you responded... the question was not how you FEEL about drinking... it was about how to save money before cheers kicks in... not drinking is a legit option, but the rest of your post (and follow up) was "judgy McJudgerson" ... big time... not unusual for CC... sorry you think so low of others who choose to imbibe, next time instead of insulting the OP or posting how sorry you feel for them, try to just not post...

I think the OP has some good info and will have a great time and hopefully not go broke in the process...

One other suggestion for the OP... Instead of open card, put cash the first day on your SS card with the max you want to spend... that way if ur hammered you can keep ringing up the bill past your preset amount as math and booze do,not exactly go together. Have fun!!

There is a big difference in needing and wanting. The OP wants to drink. Nothing indicated that he must drink to have fun. He enjoys it, it is legal. Tada end of story.

I don't get the overall attitude about the prices. Have you bought drinks in Miami? My best friend got a margarita and it was $20. Heck, I've had $12 drinks in freezing cold Minneapolis.

OP my suggestion is to buy double shots and add them into the free beverages on the lido. Or glasses of soda or juice. The alcohol doesn't get watered down by ice in the beverage and you can add as much or little as you want. Also go the the alcohol tasting thingy...every little bit counts, right? Most of all, have a great time!

Actually, from the pics people have posted lately, I didn't think the drink prices were that bad. What's the break even for getting Cheers?

As for costs, it is relative. If you live in Manhattan and drink in Manhattan bars all the time, you might thing Carnival is cheap when it comes to drink prices. If you live in New Baden, IL and drink at the one bar in New Baden, IL, you'd jump out of your socks at the sticker shock of seeing the prices of Carnival drinks. So it's all relative.

That's why some of us don't drink. It isn't worth the cost. :D

Now in South Beach, you can find the 30 oz Miami Vices on special for $15. Takes DW 90 minutes to drink it so that's worth it.....for her. :)

If Mobile is like Galveston then bottles cannot be delivered until day 2.

I'm not sure exactly how the TX law is written, but I believe it has to do with the taxes paid on the bottle. Alabama's law says that multiple drinks can not be purchased for the same price. That leads me to believe that you could get a bottle delivered to your room for the first day.

No, you can't.

I would hazard to guess, based on various breakeven posts and spreadsheets, I've seen on this board, that the only way to "save" $ versus Cheers is to not drink as much as you can under Cheers. Takes around 7-8 drinks to break even, depending on what you are considering to imbibe. It takes about an hour to metabolize 1.4 ounces of alcohol, approximately 1 drink or 2 beers. But stay away from the top shelf stuff on day 1.

Beat me to it... I'm known to mix it with room service orange juice too [emoji7]

Do you use the little paper card to order breakfast for your OJ? That's my wake-up call on the ship. I order fruit, Danish, and OJ. When they knock on my door it's time to get up and start my day with a mimosa!

As far as the break even question, we have always came out ahead. I tracked my spending, so, just for one day, example-1 specialty coffee, 2 bloody marys, 4 beers, 2 non-alcoholic milkshakes, 2 glasses of wine at dinner, 1 gin/tonic, and a glass of champagne at the steakhouse bar, ( you don't have to eat there to drink there) 1 mango dacquiri, totaled $101.05. plus would have included 15% gratuity per drink $15.31,so I would have paid $116.36 for that day. And that was before I hit the Martini bar, and started getting mostly frozen drinks. It's a win-win for us. This was just my day, but, neither my husband, nor I, have ever hit the 15 mark. We try!:D Since they have added the coffees and milkshakes, etc... it is really a great deal for us. To each his own. Do we HAVE to drink to have a good time? It's not a yes or no answer. We spend whole days at home doing other things than drinking, but, on vacation, either on a cruise, or at a casino, yes, we drink!

Actually I've gotten OJ anytime... so far I've only cruised with people having a cold. So we ordered lots of OJ

That was a beautiful sermon.

I feel sorry you have a badfinger.
