hlb76 Posted October 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2016 We just got off the Valor yesterday. My son used his bank card for his S &S account. He checked his balance about 8pm Friday and put his left over cash towards his balance. Yesterday he checked his bank account when we got off the ship and they pulled the full balance from his account. I was just wondering when do they actually run your card? Could they of ran it Friday during business hours? Since he put cash down later in the day it may of been to late to reverse charges? He is going to check his account again Monday and hope it's fixed. If it's not who should he contact ? Just the 1 800 Carnival # or is there a special number to try?? clambert1273 Posted October 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Usually from my experience, all charges are a "hold" until the final charge which usually happened about a week after I got off the ship. Once everything is processed, the holds go away and a larger charger appears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hlb76 Posted October 23, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted October 23, 2016 That's kinda what I'm hoping his bill was $600 ish and he paid $300 in cash. So he should of been charged $300ish. Instead $600 ish came out. Sent from my SM-G900V using Forums mobile app

I would have a bunch of holds (budgeted so non issue) and once we were off & home, the holds come off and final charge is applied. Have him watch it all next week. They aren't the speediest lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
prattmom Posted October 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2016 It will also depend on your bank's policies as to when the hold comes off.
DebJ14 Posted October 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Best reason ever not to use a debit card unless your bank account is bulging. The holds come off at the discretion of the bank, not Carnival.
Rare LMaxwell Posted October 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Could be up to 30 days.
clambert1273 Posted October 23, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 23, 2016 I have a great bank so I never worry about my debit card and I have never had anything hold longer than 7 days and usually all comes off about the same time the charge happens. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ray98 Posted October 23, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 23, 2016 As above....its a hold.
xitappers2bx Posted October 23, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 23, 2016 From my own experience using a debit card they held the entire amount and it was released a few days after the cruise, even though I had paid it down using cash. They essentially held "double" what we were spending.
deborahjo Posted October 23, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Will never use a debit card again Used on first cruise. Was a total nightmare. We use gift cards Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I use my debit card too, but put cash on my account early in the cruise, then the charges and hold is less at the end if I run over that amount. I'm not anti debit card like so many here, I just manage it the way I'm comfortable. I did not know about holds the first time I just used a debit card, so don't feel bad. It's all computerized. The holds come off per the policies of your financial institution, not Carnival.

I use my debit card for all my cruises and have had zero problems with it. I knew what the charges are because on my bank they say "pending" when they are a hold.... grandmarnnurse Posted October 23, 2016 #15 Share Posted October 23, 2016 I would never use a debit card for these reasons! Much better using a credit card. Sent from my iPad using Forums
