Disembarkation -- Oasis -- Port Canaveral

We were on the 12/4 sailing and did express. There was quite a line when we went down stairs at 6:30. They started letting guests off around 6:45am. Once the line started moving, we never stopped walking, minimal wait at customs and we were in our car in the parking garage at 7:00am.

Could someone who has disembarked from Oasis in Port Canaveral tell me what it was like? We have not sailed on this class of ship before. Thanks

We did self carry luggage on 12/4. Left our room at 6:30 and were in our car on Deck 4 of the parking garage just a little after 7. The longest wait (5 or so minutes) was waiting for the elevator in the parking garage. Once we started moving we did not stop.

These are such helpful replies!! Thanks!

Disembarkation at Port C from Freedom has been a great experience especially since they opened the new terminal with ramps instead of escalators. We usually get a low ticket, park in the garage and get a porter so I think we will have a similar experience.

Not to nip your pleasure in the bud but we were on Oasis for a Nov. cruise and it was like herding cattle with an electric prod. We moved quickly off the ship and then came to a huge standstill with hundreds of other passengers. The group moved slowly in mass and then we hit the winding ropes of pleasure where we passed many people numerous times as we made our way towards customs. Not a free porter to be found as they had been previously scooped up by fellow passengers. Custom's did as good a job as they could but were clearly overwhelmed by the masses. Hopefully they have been able to streamline the process for future cruisers.

I hope they have gotten used to have a bigger ship and that US Customs have increased their personnel.

We were on the 12/4 sailing, but were in a Grand Suite so we had the luxury of being escorted off the ship. We put our bags out the night before and then we met at 7:45 (actually a bit earlier) in the Champagne Bar. The concierges came and escorted us to the gangway and on to the baggage hall.

All our luggage was waiting for us in a special area which made it easy to find. We walked directly to customs, waited less than a minute for an available agent and then out to the garage. We were probably on our way home by 8:15.

There were a fair number of porters available in the baggage hall. Not as many as I'm used to seeing on DCL, but I didn't look that hard since we could easily roll our luggage ourselves.

We sailed 12/4-12/11. Disembarking was great. Yes, you do snake through a queue to get to customs but the line was steadily moving and nice and wide so rolling your bags through was no trouble at all. Retrieving luggage was simple - they have it set up in sections by your tag number and it was very easy to find. When we got outside, our hotel shuttle (Country Inn and Suites) was there waiting for us and whisked us back to get our car. We had done their stay and park package.

We just disembarked Oasis yesterday and with a porter it was easy peasy. The drop off/pick up line was disorganized with no one directing traffic. But other than that the whole process took about 30 minutes. If you get a porter you don't have to wait in the long customs line. Worth it!!

Getting a porter really helps.

As I wrote in an earlier post, have the porter take your luggage to your car or at least the elevator on your floor (a person waits with the luggage and the other gets the car and drives to the elevator entrance). Tip the porter well. We tried having me wait at the pickup/dropoff area with the luggage and it was a zoo. People parking at the curb and waiting for passengers to disembark -- sometimes for a long time; stopped cars in the 3 adjacent lanes. I emailed RCI's Customer Relations about it and they were supposed to talk to the port to improve this process possibly by having security personnel enabled to ticket etc. But it has not improved.

Best thing to do is have your vehicle waiting over at the surface lot by Grills. 3 hours free parking, no zoo

That works for people who are picking up but not for those of us who have a drive home.

The Savannah airport has a "cellphone lot" for people picking up passengers. As soon as the passenger is curbside ready for pickup, he or she calls his ride and is picked up. I suggested this in my communication to RCI customer service but the Port Authority did not take my suggestion.

Where is the surface lot near Grills? Everytime we have tried to dine there, we cannot find parking.

My issue is my DH has a mobility scooter. I HAVE to grab a porter as I can not handle all of the luggage by myself. How long would we have to wait for a porter to become available to help us get our luggage to the car? We will be parking (hopefully) in the garage.

Sherri, I think you are missing my point.

First off, the lot is part of the terminal, just to the west of the garage. you can park free for 3 hours. So it works well as a cell lot. The best thing is you don't have to fight the crowds loading inside the garage. Just a simple walk over past the west elevators.

if you are picking up folks, just park, walk over to the terminal exit doors and meet them in person.

Scenario two, your situation. Exit the terminal and walk over to the elevators. Send DH to get the car and you walk over to the surface lot. he exits garage goes to surface lot instead of coming back in the garage to get you. That way you avoid the zoo of folks trying to get picked up.

As far as Grills, it's really convenient and like I said earlier, you get three free hours of parking. As you are approaching Grills with the terminal on your left, look for the parking lot on your right attached to the terrminal.

Duh, that should have been as you approach Grills with the Terminal on your right. Sorry

That sounds like a good solution if we can't get a porter. Will also try it when we try to find parking near Grills. From the GoogleMap, it looks like we take George King Blvd. to Flounder st. and make a left. We usually make a left at Dave Nesbit Drive as we usually go to Milliken.

I think the surface lot should be promoted as a Cell Phone lot by the Port and RCI.

They've started some parking in the open field between Terminal 1 and Exploration Tower. It might be for emloyees of either the Cove or the Port. There is a small sign that says 3 hours parking, but it's not very big.

Will look for it. If the spaces are for port employee parking, they may not be used at night. Thanks

My DW and I both use walkers, so we also have to use a porter. We just got off Oasis this past Sunday, and no porters were available once we found our luggage. The wait was short though, 10 minutes and several were on their way back in. Tip them well, they are worth every penny.
