princessme Posted January 19, 2017 #26 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Those of you on the Ruby right now I hope you can answer a question for me. Is the Crab Shack Specialty dining open?. It's on Ruby's information, but I can't find anything else about it. I was wondering how much as well. Sorry your stuck at the port. We leave next month. Cruiser411 Posted January 20, 2017 #29 Share Posted January 20, 2017 There are three storms hitting California this week. We're in the midst of the second one. The forecast was for 30 foot waves off the SoCal coast. I don't think anyone would want to be sailing through that.
vmom Posted January 21, 2017 #30 Share Posted January 21, 2017 I'm sitting by the window looking out at the raging waves and swells of the Pacific just south of LA. This storm is bad. Consider it a blessing that you are in a protected area and not on the open seas.
Rare Cruise Raider Posted January 21, 2017 #31 Share Posted January 21, 2017 There are three storms hitting California this week. We're in the midst of the second one. The forecast was for 30 foot waves off the SoCal coast. I don't think anyone would want to be sailing through that. Much less the Captain!! He probably has the safety and comfort of his passengers in mind. And .... BTW, these are the craziest storms that I remember hitting California in the past 50 years. Today, high winds, drenching rain and a couple of bouts of hail to boot. I love the rain, we pray for the rain ... this is great but crazy!! The drought will officially be ended and for that we are happy. I also don't have to go out and drive in it .... for that we are ecstatic. If on a cruise, would be quite happy about being docked .... safe and dry and not sea sick!
O2Bcrusin Posted January 21, 2017 #32 Share Posted January 21, 2017 We just boarded the Ruby today. The itinerary had been changed from having a sea day to having a day at the dock in LA. According to the captains announcement it has to do with the weather. We are not happy at all about this. They have added a few excursions in LA but it is supposed to be raining. There is a film crew aboard to do a marketing video. My guess is Princess doesn't want to pay them for an extra day. Lunch menu in the dining room was different. No avocado with shrimp. So far all the announcements have been very difficult to understand due to such heavy accents. It seems like our 4 day getaway is going to be a bit of a joke. Happened to us once and they told us they couldn't leave because they had to scrape barnacles off the bottom of the ship. Made the best out of it. Thrak Posted January 21, 2017 #33 Share Posted January 21, 2017 A day stuck in LA is kind of like a day in Ensanada. Just call it a sea day. Of course you could always disembark and visit San Pedro Brewing Company for some lunch and some beer that is far, far (FAR!) better than anything you can get on the ship. :D
ggprincess2004 Posted January 21, 2017 #34 Share Posted January 21, 2017 To the OP - be grateful that you are in port for an extra day. It is for your comfort and safety as severe storms come into and through the area. I am sure Princess would prefer to keep to the sailing schedule as would the film crew. Add some sugar to those lemons and make lemonade.
Cruising Young Senior Posted January 26, 2017 #35 Share Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) Wait.....you're losing the First AND Last day of your cruise by sitting in the Port of LA??YIKES!! Just the Sea Day. Instead of Santa Barbara, Sea Day, Ensenada, we did Santa Barbara, Ensenada (where it poured) then a day docked at San Pedro. For those not living in California they could do California excursions, we just stayed on ship and pretended we were at sea. No casino or shops on ship. All closed. Cruising Young Senior Posted January 26, 2017 #36 Share Posted January 26, 2017 The Star Jan 19 itinerary has changed also due to weather. Did you end up in San Diego?
dockhl Posted January 26, 2017 #37 Share Posted January 26, 2017 Quick question: we were on the Ruby for a 7 day Mexican cruise at the beginning of December and the only thing open for lunch was the buffet....which was a DISASTER! We usually have lunch in the dining room.....is this the way of the future?
likeadisguise Posted January 26, 2017 #38 Share Posted January 26, 2017 On a sea day or a port day? Dining rooms have been closed for lunch on port days for some time now.

There have been posts that for that cruise only the dining room was reserved for a Princess holiday party for some Princess employees. (Club Class passengers could also enter for their section.) casavaha Posted January 27, 2017 #41 Share Posted January 27, 2017 The dining room was open as it always is on embarkation day. Then on our last day, (in port San Pedro) it was also open) large crowd. Greg

victory2020 Posted January 28, 2017 #43 Share Posted January 28, 2017 Did you end up in San Diego? Yes, the Star stayed 2 days in San Diego then headed for Ensenada but could not dock due to weather, so that turned out to be our sea day.
