Hi all!

When heading to ports in the virgin islands, do you have to have sunblock that is reef/coral safe?

Any suggestions on brands or products you've used?

Thank you for protecting our delicate reefs!!

Yes, there are a number of biodegradable sunscreens on the market. I use them when I go snorkeling and paddle boarding. I have used Tropical Sands and Reef Safe.

Not a requirement to my knowledge.

Biodegradable sunscreen is the only type of sunscreen allowed in some of the protected reef areas in and around Cozumel. Whether it is enforced, I do not know, but it is a requirement on some organized water sports tours. I am not sure about any requirements about other areas for snorkeling, such as the Virgin Islands that the OP is visiting.
