Anyone know which airlines ncl uses for the airfare perk you can get through them?

Look carefully into booking your own flights. While both Hawaiian and Alaska have great non-stops from San Diego you may very well have to go to LA or San Francisco wait around and change planes.

Presently Hawaiian and Alaska airlines fly the route NON-STOP

Other major airlines Delta American United fly it with a stop or change of plane at Los Angeles

NCL may negotiate whatever works best for their bean counters and not necessarily for the cruise customer

although NCL will secure reservations that make the ships port call and any other package hotel deals.

This is not necessarily the best deal being locked into a travel itinerary that doesn't offer much in options going

to and from the islands.

Check out the options of independent travel but still sailing on the POA.

For most folks this is a once in a lifetime trip - maximize it around the NCL POA sailing:

Do a 1 week land package before the cruise or afterward.

Consider also a few days before and afterward.

Air travel to the islands is about a 6 hour flight from the west coast - don't get all flustered and bent out of breath

trying to make the cruise in the same day.

Conversely don't rush to get off the ship and race rag-tag to catch the return flight to the mainland.

Arrive and departure leisurely - see Hawaii in it's ALOHA time at least a couple of days either side of the sailing.

Having worked in the airline industry for 29 years I have had the opportunity to travel frequently to the islands and

lived there for a short period of time ('70 & '71 some of the golden years of aviation in Hawaii).

Relax and take as much of it in as you can to remember it without stress. Forget getting on the POA in the same day

and rushing to leave the islands in haste. You may have the chance to travel again but if not make the very most of the

first (and perhaps only) visit to the islands !

ALOHA !

And Mahalo Nui Loa for your visit to CC to get the information of your dreams and memories !

NCL won't confirm your flights until close to your cruise date on the low bid airline. If you want any control over your vacation, book the air yourself. You could still check on booking your hotel in Waikiki through NCL (they use the Marriott) since they will have a service desk there on day of cruise. Their hotel is about a block off the beach in the heart of Waikiki. The Hawaii cruise is the best. Have a great time!

Don't expect a non stop from San Diego. You will likely be routed through either LAX or SFO. If you want non-stop from SAN book it yourself. It will likely be less expensive anyway.

Travel Hint:

Yes - Book your own flights to suit your personal schedule and budget $ !

If you leave out of San Diego (SAN) you are more apt to have a smaller aircraft (not wide body) and maybe

have a bit more room than you would leaving (connecting) out of Los Angeles (LAX) with a full load of standbys etc.

The flight time Non-Stop out of SAN is about 20-30 minutes longer roughly 5:40 - LAX about 5:20.

ALOHA !
