OBC and credit card charge question

We have cruised many times so I really should know this, but I can't remember the answer.

I have $300 TA OBCs for our upcoming cruise on NCL Epic. I want to purchase a soda package for my daughter, but when I go to do so online, it wants my credit card number.

Obviously, I want to use my OBC to pay for the charge.

Will my credit card automatically be charged or is it only charged once we board, allowing me to use my OBC? I'd also like to reserve Cirque seats so am assuming this would work the same way.

if the OBC was from your TA, you can always apply that to your daily gratuities.

it depends on how the OBC from the TA is purchased/booked. There is refundable and non-refundable OBC. Refundable OBC can be used for gratuities whereas non-refundable can not be used.

well..

non refundable OBC can be retrieved through casino for small %%.

And cash can be used for anything :)

SunnyKitty, how would I go about doing this? I don't usually gamble in the casinos. Would I put it on a casino card, play a small amount, then cash out?

We were on Epic earlier this month, and had non-refundable OBC. We were told that you could not use that in the casino.

Since it also couldn't be used to pay the daily gratuity, we used it for upgraded meals in the Taste dining room. The 12 oz. lobster tail was terrific. Another night, we had the surf and turf - 1/2 of the 12 oz lobster tail and a fillet. Both were so good.

well yikes!!! What the heck can the OBC be used for if you have " UBP and the Dining Package" ? I have no interest in buying jewelry ugh! We have $250 OBC.. I can't use that in the casino?

Check to see if your OBC is refundable or non-refundable. If refundable, you should be able to use it in the casino. If not, use it for souvenirs, upgraded meals in the mail dining room, additional upcharge restaurants.

You "could" use it for some over-priced shore excursions booked through the ship ;)

It's easier than you think. Can use it on drink taxes in port, anything excluded by UBP (tastings, bottles of wine, drink amounts over $15, specialty coffee, bottled water), spa treatments, and anything leftover you can buy yourself something from the shops or play bingo.

I agree! I won't have any trouble spending it and I love to shop. If there's a big chunk left towards Day 6, spa, here I come!

One more question: Can I add on the soda package at the port check-in desk, and, if so, would that come off my OBC?

No, you can not. There are specifc tables for purchasing soda package, wine packages etc - possibly even in the terminal but at least onboard on embarkation day. AFAIK you can also purchase from any bar.
