Live from Spice Route & Suez Canal B-2-B Cruise - Legend of the Seas Farewell

Recommended Posts

The departure process in Dubai was very smooth and immigration efficient. Dis-embarkation finished one hour before schedule.

All consecutive cruiser’s must, due to local regulations, go off the ship. We went ashore at 08:30 am. Collected our passport and new sea pass for the consecutive cruise in the main dining room. Went through immigration and our passports were collected by cruise ship for the next cruise.

Took the free shuttle bus provided by RCCL to Dubai Mall.

From Dubai Mall we took a taxi to Deira and did some shopping in the old Souk’s.

Back on the ship by 3 pm for a late lunch in Windjammer. Went straight onboard with our new Sea Pass provide this morning.

From our balcony we washed the Vision of the Seas sailaway from Dubai.

Departed Dubai at 8:00 pm.

Now sailing in Gulf of Oman along the coast of Oman to starboard.

Weather extremely nice and the sea very calm - forecast for following days is promising.

Wow, 57 Ps - for the size of the ship that must be one of the highest % ever.

Another seas day with very calm sea and nice weather.

At Day 3 at 10:30 am we did have the 'Safe Haven' drill for preparation of the Gulf of Aden transit. The procedures in case of an very unlikely event that we do encounter pirates was explained and practiced. During the passage there will be lookouts in place around the ship.

Day 2, March 14, 2017 - the very last Captain's Welcome Aboard Reception.

Captain Juan Luis Caranti's welcome address and presentation of the senior officers.

Must have felt good to be part of that historic last Captain's Reception and last voyage of the Legend of the Seas.

We arrived to the Suez Canal entry Sunday at 23 pm.

The pilot arrived at 02 am Monday morning - about 4 hours later than scheduled.

There was a beautiful sunrise over the Sinai Desert Monday morning. Green and lush with many cities on the western shore and desert on the east.

Pictures from 06:30 am local time.

Few pictures at my blog - more will follow.

Tuesday Day 9 was the Legend of the Seas "Ceremonial Plaque" Auction.

All the plaques Legend of the Seas has been presented at the first visits to a ports over the last 22 years, have been removed form the walls at Deck 9 and were sold at a Park West auction.

At 10:30 am the auction preview and 11:00 the "Ceremonial Plaque" Auction.

Some of the plaques could be bought at the preview before / or after the auction at a fixed price ranging from $15 to $30 - some plaques were reserved for the "Ceremonial Plaque" Auction.

There were lot of interest for the preview as well as the auction, but only a few of plaques went up in price - many were sold for the starting price and most were not sold at the auction.

The plaques not sold to guests will be sold to the crew - all money from the sale of the "Ceremonial Plaques" will be used for crew wellfare.

Interesting, to my knowledge this did not happen on Monarch's last cruise. I would have enjoyed having one of those plaques.
