sldispatcher Posted March 30, 2017 Author #134 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Quick hits from a Cayman Turtle 1. The Zoom, Voom, badda boom internet is fast on the laptop, but the iPhone suffers. Is it worth the money? I'll leave that up to you. 2. Ice show was repeated today at 6 and 8. The last of the cruise. I definitely think it is worth seeing. Lot of energy and effort into the performance. It is not as boring as some may think. 3. Sabor is one of those places that probably would work on some ships, but I wonder what most people think when they leave here? Our group has not been all that excited about it so far. I actually liked it because everything was so fresh tasting. Maybe I was just hungry, but I had looked at the menu and new that it was not going to be the TEX MEX version. I would have pushed them to do a Latin American/South American tapas place instead of "upscale Mexican" food. But that is just one lowly first time passenger's opinion. They were generous with apps and desserts essentially bringing everything to the table and just asking us each to order an entrée. Seemed like it took forever after we were seated for things to get started, but overall it was fine. The whole experience was that it was somewhat colored from our tiredness from the day's experiences. 4. Private charter for snorkeling and stingray city was a hit. But this review is not about my vacation, but rather the LOS, so I'll just say that our 14 looked over at the boat of 200 and thought "wow, I'm glad I'm not on there". 5. I almost went into apoplexy this morning as we settled in our basking area of the Grand Caymans right next to Oceania's Marina. That's a whole other experience from a few weeks ago. We had an instant longing, but we also have been enjoying the experience that LOS has offered us as a family and as a group. 6. There has been a minimal to almost no noise in the halls after 9pm along the back of the ship. 7. They do something different with the daily program in that they put in bold and announce the time of arrival of the ship as it is expected into port. That is followed by another time frame where the expected time when the gangway should be available for heading ashore. We make the easy mistake of setting our gathering times 30 minutes off of when we should. Just keep an eye on it. 8. Only a late night show of a form of the Newlywed game in the main theater tonight since the ice show was underway. 9. The ship continues to be impressive with the handling in the ocean and lack of mechanical noises. 10. A final note about the ship's crew. This ranks in the top 3 (or bottom 3 depending on how you look at it) of voyages where I have noticed that so many passengers act as though the crew are not even human. The poor things hardly get acknowledged if they are not being run over, etc. That is probably a function of the size of the ship, but I must admit it may reflect on the general attitude of the cruisers themselves. This is not some granola eating save-the-world rant. I just wish people still made eye contact and said "please", "thank you", and "where are you from" a little more often. 11. I feel bad for the photography department. They are like the IRS of cruising. Today at the tender spot the poor things must have been instructed to be aggressive and snap as many photos as possible. The "pirate" was practically blocking the exit of the tender and pulling people over to get pictures. There is only one way to make that go away, but no one seems to be wise enough to do it so it will continue on the mass market lines for a long time. 12. Strangely, only warm water or hot water comes out of our faucets. I have failed to mention it to the room steward so it is only my fault. Wonder if others have had such an issue? 13. Tapatalk app is not wanting to load pictures the last two days, so I'm struggling to get anything up to show you. Will keep trying. Good night! JTBCruiser Posted March 30, 2017 #141 Share Posted March 30, 2017 DW and I make it a point to smile and at least say hello when we see crew members. I've yet to note one crew person to not show a positive reaction. A little kindness goes a long way. We love cruising and know they are a big part of us enjoying ourselves so we hope to make it up for those who feel "entitled" to be jerks.

Funny you should mention Tapas as I have always thought that's kind of exactly what they are going for in Sabor's. After our first visit, I was highly critical because of the lack of Tex Mex, but after another visit and another, and they got better and better, now it is a favorite. You can't beat the Snapper, tiger shrimp, Bacon wrapped jalapeno chicken bites, quac and yummy Dulce de leche! Other things are dry and blah, but we will always go back now. Rare BecciBoo Posted March 30, 2017 #143 Share Posted March 30, 2017 We have met and consider friends some of the crew over the years. V in particular was our waiter way back and now is a concierge. We stay in touch with him by email. I have a soft heart for all these guys and gals and hearing their stories is a favorite past time for me. after 22 cruises with RCCL they are kinda family. And some of them have moved on to other ships and recognize us by name even now if they see us...amazing.\ BTW you're killing me with those pictures, possibly the best food porn I've ever seen...you have a knack with the camera. wolfganghowell Posted March 30, 2017 #145 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I'm enjoying your perspective. We started on Celebrity and for a number of reasons have been on Royal for the last 9 years. Both have their strong suits and we had to remind ourselves not to compare. Celebrity does some things better and Royal does others better. Over the years, they have really separated the brands quite well. Generally we have seen passengers are much kinder on Galveston cruises than Florida cruises. Sorry to hear you have seen some selfish behavior. Hope you continue to have a great week.
