Sequim88 Posted March 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Just completed check-in on-line and did a preview of the luggage tags and how to apply them. I have a bunch of Alaska Airlines clear plastic luggage tag holders. Would these be suitable for attaching the HAL tags to checked suitcases? Also, last HAL cruise was a long time ago (15 yrs) and back then about 30 days out we received int he mail a packet of info, cruise contract, port info, boarding pass etc... Is this all done online now?
ger_77 Posted March 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2017 As long as the airline luggage tag holders are the same size as the cruise line tags, go ahead and use them. Sadly, the lovely blue folder of information that used to come in the mail is no longer - everything is done online now. We only print out our boarding passes from the entire document (I think it's 13 or 14 pages), because that's really all you need. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
Stpatsirish Posted March 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I use a clear luggage tag on my luggage, no problem. I believe it is all online now. I always received that info by email.

They work great.
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I just print off only page 1 for each of us -- boarding pass. And 2 luggage tags per person. Since you haven't sailed on HAL in many years, you may want to print out at least one entire contract just to update yourself.
Tinknock50 Posted March 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I just bring scotch tape and attache the paper tags to the handles.....sometimes to a couple of handles. Have never had them come off and never had a problem with baggage delivery to room. I have had older tags, the ones HAL sells, disappear because the plastic gets brittle over time. djett Posted March 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 30, 2017 My wife and I are about to board the Westerdam and we received a packet from our travel agent that included our boarding passes and laminated luggage tags to attach to our bags.
RMLincoln Posted March 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I've given up on the plastic HAL luggage tag holders that i got in the mail years ago as a Mariners gift, they crack at the attachment slot. But I bring the rubber attaching loops. I bring printouts of our luggage tags that have been properly folded and hole punched so the attachment loop can be used - I tape the hole area so they are stronger. But most usually now I ask a porter for their luggage tags, they are much stronger... the ports have markers to put your name and room number. I've never been to a pier where the porters didn't have luggage tags. m--
OHCruiser Posted March 30, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I bought some luggage tag holders from Amazon and I use and reuse them. I put a small piece of clear tape at the top after inserting the printed paper tag. https://smile.amazon.com/Premium-Luggage-Holders-Specialist-ID/dp/B019HLKJLW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1490911117&sr=8-3&keywords=holland+america+luggage+tags+holder
NZM-at-sea Posted December 20, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 20, 2017 I buy 8-1/2 x 11 size labels and print luggage tags on them and pre-cut. Before handing the bags to the porters, I peel the backing, slip the labels inside the luggage handles, and fold the labels over, attaching the two sides together. Never fails. DC1979 Posted December 20, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 20, 2017 I ordered these from amazon and these are perfect. You can also use them on checked baggage as personalized luggage tags https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B017BVFA00/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=
Rare kazu Posted December 20, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2017 I just print the luggage tags, cut them to size and use the "Dollar Store" laminating sheets (less than a $1 to do 2-3 luggage tags, punch a hole & pack the plastic ties (we usually arrive early pre-cruise) and we are all set to go. Whether you use packing tape, laminate them, whatever it does to make them stronger or use luggage tags, it all works. Whichever works best for you, go for it. I prefer the flexible loop ties over the metal rings, since they fit on any handle. Have used them several times already. I don't bother taping the opening after inserting the paper tag. No need for that. Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app
