To the OP.....You can stay up and drink all night on any cruise line. Let's hope you're looking for more than that on your upcoming cruise.

HAL is fine for almost any adult age group....even for the "all nighters".

Go and have fun. You will not be disappointed.

I don't understand why younger people seem to regard being around older people with horror. Old age happens to everyone if they live long enough.

I find I still feel the same way inside that I did when I was young. It's just that the body doesn't cooperate as well anymore. It's rather hurtful to read that younger people don't want to be around us simply because we committed the sin of aging.

Oh dear, dear! I have indeed committed the very serious sin of aging:). Where or where and how do I get absolution?

It's that "firm purpose of amendment" part that's the kicker. You have to vow you won't continue to get older, and most of us won't keep that vow. ;)

I hope our cruise IS quiet and laid-back. That is why we are giving HAL a go this time around. (That - and Sitka!) Looking forward to relaxing while on the ship. Quite honestly, I'm kicking myself for not trying HAL about 20 cruises ago.

I don't understand the grumbling of how old the passengers are. I have read disparaging remarks and reviews about nursing homes, walkers and scooters. I wonder if those griping will someday be courageous and adventurous enough to set sail when they are "old"!
My mom is 86 years old and still cruising strong, been on every line imaginable from HAL to Princess to RCI to Carnival and beyond, still does all the roller coasters at the Orlando theme parks too! Words she lives by are "A cruise is what YOU make it"

My wife and I are In our early/mid fifties and we sailed on the Oosterdam in the Adriatic Sea last year and had an amazing time. Do the late dinner at 8pm. By the time dinner is over the older folks are in bed and the venues are less crowded. We found lots of others our age. we never went to our cabin before midnight on a very port intensive cruise. We loved it so much HAL is now our preferred cruise line and we are doing the Baltic this summer on the Zuiderdam.

I have found that a number of the "old" folks on HAL have lived long enough to have experiences worth learning about. Having outgrown the need for non-stop external stimulation, I am able to enjoy the slower pace which seems to alienate some. This is a win-win - no judgement involved: but I am happy for the people who find continuous stimulation on other lines - isn't it good that all lines do not try to be all things to all people?

AMEN! I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of people before I booked my first cruise (this September, 14-day Great Alaskan Explorer on the Amsterdam). I know myself well enough to know that I would not be happy on a mega ship among 5000+ other inhabitants of a floating city.

For me, the hierarchy of attractions in cruise travel is: 1) itinerary, 2) ship size/ease of getting around/cabin size & layout, 3) quality of food, and 4) service. Onboard entertainment (casinos, shows, etc.) is far down the list. Yes, I'll probably spend an evening or three checking it out while I'm on the trip, but it's just not as important to me as other things. From what I've seen here and heard from talking to my friends, HAL should be a good fit. If it isn't, there are a bunch of other cruise lines that feature small- to mid-sized ships that are good candidates. Vive la difference!

I have to agree with Artsy but service is 3 and food is 4. could have written the rest myself - there are thousands of cruise ships/lines out there - pick the one YOU like and go with it. Old is an age and mental place. the number keeps getting bigger and we keep getting wiser and I don't need a bunch of stuff for a vacation. If you do that's great - HAL isn't for you. Don't thumb your nose at us cause we like it.

Not certain why there is cause for concern about demographics on a relatively short port intensive cruise during a holiday period. Will it really matter or make much difference on a cruise such as this?

We concern ourselves much more with the ship (dining options, age/conditions/, size, ets), itinerary, and price than we do with demographics. While HAL is definately not know for it's entertainment we find entertainment on cruise ships a bit of a crap shoot. We don't even bother going to the first five of ten minutes of the production shows any more.

I suspect that this is the wrong forum to be voicing concerns over demographics.
