Carnival Prices ?

Recommended Posts

And your posting means absolutely nothing since you have never sailed on a Carnival cruise ship according to your signature. So you have no first hand experience to make that judgement, only the regurgitated drivel from the loyal royals over on their board.

Sour people suffer sour lives. ;)

Why is Carnival so much cheaper than it's competitors ?

Are the budget prices reflected in your on-board experience?

While CC posters only represent a small percentage of any ship's passenger list, reading the threads in that line's CC forum will quickly give you some basic idea of the culture/service/quality onboard.

If Carnival's CC conversations "float your boat," you may find that your "cruise experience" on Carnival will be just fine.

However, cruising is definitely a travel industry segment where "you get what you pay for."

Good thing no one is doing that.

But was priced higher, not lower.

Higher grade of offering. Higher price of offering.

If anything it is the opposite. I'm sticking to the actual words we've said, while you're "creatively" trying to rationalize your personal perspective as the only possible interpretation.

The reality is that Carnival (and Royal Caribbean) are entry level cruise lines, along with all that means, and there are higher grade cruise lines that offer higher grade offerings. No amount of "spin doctoring" on your part is going to disprove that.

Again, we're going to have to agree to disagree about the overall difference between different grades of cruise lines.

I gave you concrete evidence that the total package offering of an OV cabin with OBC and drinks package on Celebrity was cheaper than an comparable package on Carnival once you factored in the Cheers program.

If your apples to apples comparison is a bare bones inside cabin with no perks, then Carnival will be cheaper 99%+ of the time. The comparison I showed proves that Celebrity is the better value once you add in the perks. And since the entire vacation expenditure should come into play, I feel I proved my point.

But only if the perqs are of value to you, and only in that minority of situations where those perqs are available to the person booking the cruise. Right now if I tried to rebook either of my upcoming cruises, Carnival would invariably charge a lower cruise fare than Celebrity for a lower grade of service than Celebrity, no matter how many ways you try to make it sound otherwise. And the same would be true for most of the posters here with regard to rebooking their upcoming cruises at this time.

We never said anything about rebooking. You asked for three concrete apples to apples comparison and I provided it when comparing OV cabins with perks. It's impossible to compare a Carnival cruise with perks, because they do not give them out. I proved that Celebrity with the perks was cheaper than Carnival when comparing OV cabins. I did as you requested and it was easily done. If you want a bare bones no frills cruise, then Carnival is your best bet for most cruises. If you want to compare 7 days in the Caribbean, the MSC Divina will probably be cheaper.

Everyone is different, for many it comes down to what is cheaper and easiest to get to port. It really just depends on what people want, what's important to them, and things they like. Me, I just like cruises and being with my hubby. The rest is just minor details.

I think this is the money quote of the whole thread. What is of value to you, is probably not of value to me. We are ALL different.

I do not like Big Boats (and I can not lie) - I'm now looking for small ship experiences - although the Pride is a good size. I don't need bells and whistles. I am not looking for a vessel that is a floating hotel/theme park/shopping center. Not my thing. I want a ship to be a ship. Some great food venues, and some good places to sit and relax preferably with a pool and a nicely appointed cabin are what I'm looking for. I don't need piano bars, casinos or big theater productions. Some good live music, I can dance to in a bar setting or that I can listen to in an atrium.

I don't know whether I've outgrown Carnival, but I know they no longer provide what I'm looking for on a cruise ship. I think part of it is me, and part of it is that Carnival has changed. The changes have begun to chaff and that's part of what has me looking elsewhere.

So I value those things, and I'm willing to pay more to get them. Different people have different things they value. Some can pay more to get those things, some can't pay more, while others are simply unwilling to pay more even if they can.

IMO this argument is moot - unless like-minded people are the ones discussing it.

Its simple. Carnival is the "Walmart" of cruise lines....

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Lol people love to insult Walmart, but just like Carnival they are still popular. I love Carnival for what they supply for me Great memories and plenty of fun. I just am not wanting to sail on something that resembles a Barge with a Condo complex dropped down on it with 8k + people on it. I am going on both a RCCL & Princess cruise next year as well as 2 more Carnival. I doubt I willl like them more than the Carnival cruises.

Well Stated!

I enjoy everything that carnival has to offer, I go for fun and atmosphere on the ship, not to hang out in my room, so I am not sure why passengers get all worked up about room size.

Want to cruise? I say YES to Carnival

Before it gets lost among the haters, I'll type my thoughts.

I may be wrong, but I feel like Carnival is a "starter" cruise line...one for those to take a first cruise who aren't sure if a cruise is for them. A lower cost may sway them in that direction. Also, Carnival does not have all the "bells and whistles" of higher-priced cruise lines.

Others include internet access, but it was paid for in the cost of the cruise. Others may include some form of drink package, alcoholic or not, but that is included within the cruise fare. There may me some that have butler service (I don't know). Etc., etc., etc...

As to my experiences:

I find the food, for the most part, to be quite good.

I find the cabins, though smaller than a hotel room, to be adequate and comfortable.

I find the entertainment/activities to be plentiful and fun.

I find the prices for drinks/shopping to be comparable to resort destinations.

And I find the service and attitude I have experienced from the staff and crew to be top-notch.

Again, these are my experiences. I'm sure the others will chime in with opposing views, but that's fine.

I actually gave 2 example where my Celebrity cruises were cheaper fare wise, than Carnival. Why doesn't that count in your mind? All I got was that you disagreed because the products were different.

Is not a $650 inside cabin on Celebrity cheaper than an $800 inside on Carnival? A $450 inside on Celebrity is also cheaper than $600 on Carnival, even if ignoring perks and differences, correct?

Actually, I HAVE sailed Carnival; I'm just not proud of it.

Why are you on this thread then??? Why am I here even? I'm not even proud to have a Carnival cruise booked, but I have a booking credit which is non refundable, and gift cards.

After my last Carnival experience, I'm looking forward to being done after Imagination. If Carnival were the only cruise line available, I would choose land tours. :p

That's an excellent way of describing an apples to oranges comparison.

Wrong, I haven't compared the two cruise lines outside of money (both in USD) If you can't decided which is cheaper, Celebrity for $650 vs Carnival for $800, what missing factors could I help explain?

Yes I did.

Can't provide the easily obtained website because it's against the rules of CC. Don't know why you even brought up anything about rebooking. You asked for and I provided concrete examples of Celebrity being a better value than Carnival. In 2 out of the 3 examples I provided, the Celebrity cruise was 225 more than Carnival and you got 150 back in OBC. For the additional 75, you had a choice of either an alcohol package or prepaid tips, both of which are worth more than 75. If you like to drink, you really make out , if you're a teetotaler, you save a few bucks. And you get to cruise on a newer, nicer and higher rated cruise ship.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the overall difference between different grades of cruise lines.

I haven't looked at upcoming sailings, but Celebrity is literally cheaper on occasion, especially if you watch Alaska and Bermuda. Places that Carnival has less presence, they benefit from loyalists who don't price shop. Last summer, Celebrity's 123GO! sale spiked prices for OV+ in Bermuda, but the lack of inside cabin bookings, sent prices down towards $400, far cheaper than Carnival.

Even if we want to max out our stubbornness on the subject, free gratuities are a valid perk to consider, since they are required. I realize the bUU has told you that only the actual fare prices are valid in comparison, yet contradicts by telling me that they're not, I guess that's the beauty of New Math.

False. You chose to include non-fare considerations rather than relying on three, independently-verifiable, apples-to-apples comparisons. That's your prerogative but since you insist that your rules are the only valid rules for how to compare, we'll have to agree to disagree.

And none of this really affects the understanding of the vast majority of folks who know that your way of comparing simply flies in the face of what they know: Carnival is a high quality low grade cruise line and by comparison Celebrity is a high quality higher grade cruise line.

Let's see if we can actually find it within ourselves to agree to disagree rather than resorting to the typical beating of dead horses.

Correct, I told you about 2 Celebrity cruises that I sailed, which attracted Carnival loyalists, due to price. I never agreed to, nor are you in control of, these parameters. Even if I bothered to jump through your little hoops, you would still reply with your usual, "I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the overall difference between different grades of cruise lines."

That's your prerogative but since you insist that your rules are the only valid rules for how to compare

What rules of mine? I said that $650 is cheaper than $800. That's just math, you can look up a number chart if you don't believe me.

And none of this really affects the understanding of the vast majority of folks who know that your way of comparing simply flies in the face of what they know: Carnival is a high quality low grade cruise line and by comparison Celebrity is a high quality higher grade cruise line.

Red Herring

You are contradicting yourself. What about all these rules you seem to be referring to? Sometimes Celebrity is the cheaper option, deal with it. ;p

So your selection is beating a dead horse rather than agreeing to disagree. Noted.

Strawman argument, you changed my wording just a hair, and replied to nothing. Skedaddle if you don't wish to discuss "Carnival Prices" with me, I was actually replying to someone else, and you engaged me. I will reply if you want to talk, but it's rude to complain about it.

What are we? Children? Is this such a controversial matter that people cannot disagree agreeably and instead must insist that people who express a different perspective be browbeaten? Reasonable people disagree. No matter how many emoticons you post, reasonable people will still recognize that Carnival is a high quality lower grade offering and Celebrity is a high quality higher grade offering. It pitiful if reasonable people cannot find a way to accept that disagreement is going to happen sometimes.

Have you ever even sailed with either Carnival or Celebrity before? I see from your Alaska roll call, the answer is no. It's not our responsibility to agree or disagree, when you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I hope you are just a troll toying with us, because this has been too hilarious to be true. ;p

Anyone else want to get back to discussing Carnival $?
