Booking through NCL - OBC (what can and can't you use it for?)

I'm assuming you can't use your OBC at all until you board the ship. What restrictions are on the OBC that NCL is giving out when booking.

If you want to use it towards excursions, do you have to wait until you are on ship to reserve the NCL excursion (and then switch it to be paid with OBC at guest services prior to excursion? The Jost Van Dyke for instance that sometimes sells out fast).

We aren't big shoppers so curious if we can use it for:

1) Food republic

2) Gambling

3) Photos

4) Tipping extra

5) buying soda packages once on the ship

6) buying additional SDP for the kids once on the ship

On Board Credit can be used when you are On Board (not before).

Non-refundable OBC can not be used for gratuity.

Refundable OBC can be used for gratuity.

Is the OBC you get when booking directly with NCL non-refund or refundable?

Thanks,

4) Tipping extra - YES (the key here is EXTRA - it cannot be used for the DSC)

5) buying soda packages once on the ship - YES

6) buying additional SDP for the kids once on the ship - YES

Does anyone know if non-refundable OBC can be used to tip the butler and concierge? I understand it cannot be used for the DSC.

Also, if you want to tip over and above the 18% gratuity on drinks or meals, can non-refundable OBC be used for that? If so, will it automatically be allocated out so long as you add it to the additional tip line?

We have both non-refundable and refundable OBC on our upcoming cruise. I'm assuming they will automatically allocate to either one based on what the charge is, correct? Hoping to use the $100 refundable OBC towards the DSC and the $300 non-refundable towards the butler/concierge.

Thanks!

Non refundable OBC can be used for pretty much everything except the DSC and Casino play.

There have been plenty of posters on lots of threads that say you can use them for casino play.

You just go up to the cage and ask for x amount and put it on your room account. There is a 3% fee for doing this though.

You can then if you wanted take that money to the accounts desk and ask them to add it to your account, that way you can use is for the DSC if you wanted.

Absolutely correct....we did precisely that on our 30 April Jade Transatlantic!

Anyone know if the obc from ncl MasterCard is refundable or non?thx!

I don't know if it's the same, but we booked this "wave" promo through Expedia... had to pay with any MC and found out once on board that it was a REFUNDABLE OBC. We would up not even touching that portion and used our non refundable obc up instead and were given cash for the refundable obc the morning of disembarkment. You can go to guest services for it or wait for a check from NCL.

On the BA asking for casino money at the cage had to be placed on your cc - could not use any OBC. However, if you went to a slot machine and added money to your account, you could use the OBC. It was from a travel agent, so probably refundable.
