Bloodaxe Posted May 31, 2017 #76 Share Posted May 31, 2017 How does Princess compare overall to Celebrity and Azamara. I know that you have mainly cruised Celebrity and recently Azamara We have done the same and for several years just Azamara. Now looking around at other lines. Would be interested in your opinion. upwarduk Posted May 31, 2017 Author #77 Share Posted May 31, 2017 Bloodaxe, I would certainly sail Azamara again if only I could find a good deal. We had such an excellent deal for the TA last year ( balcony cabin for £100 p.p.p.n) and that was all in except for excursions. Free drinks ( not Premium) Free gratuities count for a lot as does the Free shuttle service. Azamara excursions are VERY expensive though. Celebrity have made changes since we sailed, no longer Formal Nights, but Evening Chic which we have not done. Drinks prices are very similar to Princess, BUT we were not constantly harassed to buy Speciality Dining on Princess as we have been on Celebrity. In fact we used to pass the Crown Grill and see no one dining! Maybe it's the Americans who go for the Speciality Restaurants ? Obviously on our cruise, most Brits were unwilling to pay extra (Princess price was $29, Celebrity double that) HOWEVER, Princess's web site is far superior to Celebrity's which is really their downfall. We were also warned by Princess that there are only American sockets on board, no European ( apparently there is one behind the bed, but if that is used, then you cannot use the lamp and you have to pull the bed out. However, the voltage of the American sockets is only 110 v. I had a 5 USB adapter, which meant we could charge iPads and phones overnight. My husband had real problems with his Samsung J5 phone, he was getting a blank screen in the morning. Someone told him to turn it off overnight, but this didn't always work. I had no problem with my iPhone 5s. Sent from my iPad using Forums
upwarduk Posted May 31, 2017 Author #78 Share Posted May 31, 2017 I too was on this cruise and was at the service. Did you manage to get an order of service? If so can you tell me the title and author of the reading that Paul did? I tried to get a copy at reception but they were all gone. It was very moving. Thanks I've just found my order of service for the Memorial Service and have looked 'If I Knew' which Paul read on google. If I Knew Submitted By: redeemedgirlIF I KNEW If I knew it would be the last timeThat I'd see you fall asleep,I would tuck you in more tightlyand pray the Lord, your soul to keep. If I knew it would be ! the last timethat I see you walk out the door,I would ! give you a hug and kissand call you back for one more. If I knew it would be the last timeI'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,I would video tape each action and word,so I could play them back day after day. If I knew it would be the last time,I could spare an extra minuteto stop and say "I love you,"instead of assuming you would KNOW I do. If I knew it would be the last timeI would be there to share your day,Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,so I can let just this one slip away. For surely there's always tomorrowto make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chanceto make everything just right. There will always be another dayto say "I love you,"And certainly there's another chanceto say our "Anything I can do?" But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get,I'd like to say how much I love youand I hope we never forget. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,And today may be the last chanceyou get to hold your loved one tight. So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day, That you didn't take that extra timefor a smile, a hug, or a kissand you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish. So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear,Tell them how much you love themand that you'll always hold them dear Take time to say "! I'm sorry,""Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay! ."And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today. I believe that Princess no longer have any. We have considered P and O Adonia which is a sister ship, also Oceana who have the others. We were lucky to find Azamara years ago when prices were reasonable but sadly that is not the case anymore, so we are looking elsewhere. Congrats to Huddersfield on promotion . upwarduk Posted May 31, 2017 Author #80 Share Posted May 31, 2017 Congrats to Huddersfield on promotion . Thankyou. My son ( who lives in Surrey) sent a text when we were on the ship asking my DH if he wanted a ticket for Wembley. We were going to visit them anyway when we finished the cruise. So Monday saw DH, DS and 2 grandsons go to Wembley from Surrey and our Huddersfield grandson was there as well. A truly memorable ending to an excellent cruise. This from Princess in answer to a comment from me on FB: Hi Jackie - Pacific and Sapphire are both smaller ships. Eric I like the small ships too. The Pacific Princess is still sailing with Princess and they have done, or are about to do, a renovation. They plan to keep her for at least 7 more years from what I've heard.

Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted June 1, 2017 #84 Share Posted June 1, 2017 This from Princess in answer to a comment from me on FB: Hi Jackie - Pacific and Sapphire are both smaller ships. You can find out more here: http://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ships/ There must be a misprint, because while Pacific is one of the R-ships [with 688 passengers], Sapphire is one of Princess' middle-range ships [2,672 passengers]. They have 4 other ships that are [just] under 2,000 passengers [Coral, Dawn, Island and Sun] -- but they are not considered "small ships."
upwarduk Posted June 1, 2017 Author #85 Share Posted June 1, 2017 Yes Host Jazzbeau, I picked up on that. It would be the Pacific Princess I would choose, especially as she is an ex 'R' ship. She does actually do some itineraries close to home as well, but I would hope that she might be ready for a re furb, as her last one was 2010. angel1912 Posted June 5, 2017 #88 Share Posted June 5, 2017 Hello. Myself and my family are on the same cruise at the end of July and wondered if you could let me know what nights the formal nights take place. I am aware there are 3 of them during the cruise, it's only that we would like to book the specialty restaurants on nights when we know they aren't formal nights. I have cruised before so am aware they are normally on sea days, so assume day 2 and day 13 but there must be one somewhere in the middle, any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks in advance

LEESRE Posted June 6, 2017 #91 Share Posted June 6, 2017 Jackie, If you choose to do Anytime Dining you can choose a time each day. Just ring the Dine Line at 8 o'clock each morning and request a table at a certain time. We did this and you can either share or dine just the two of you. Rex, We've done 'Select' on Celebrity and choose 7-7.15pm each night, but we were given a table in the same section of the dining room. I feel I need the same wait staff as I am Lactose Intolerant, so I like to have staff who get to know me! I tend to sleep in the shows if we eat too late, but 5.45 was certainly too early on such a port intensive cruise. Who was your CD? Paul Chandler Burns left when we did. Rare MicCanberra Posted June 6, 2017 #93 Share Posted June 6, 2017 We do select and X certainly do it better than Princess but we have never really had any issues with just rocking up and getting a table. If you do want a particular table though, booking is best.
