wilsonwilksmcgee Posted May 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Afternoon on Anthem in July on Disembarkation day we are in no real rush as we don't have flights back to uk until late at night and don't want to go around NY with luggage so looking at what the best strategy to fill in the day would be and one option is to is just to stay on board for as long as possible if that's reasonable or allowed ie can you use the facilities, pools, bars, restaurants, or gym or do they close everything down and throw you overboard first thing in the morning any other recommendations on how to fill-in the day welcome looked at the NY tour but we would have already had a week in NY before cruise so not really all that appealing and lugging around luggage all day shopping is my worse nightmare cheers ron
Clarea Posted May 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2017 After breakfast is over, all facilities are closed. They will be making last call around 9:30am to 10:30am.
Rare Sarah1974 Posted May 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Things must be different when cruising from the UK. On my cruise next month I have the option to purchase "an excursion" to stay on board, use the facilities (not the cabin) and have lunch. They keep your luggage so you only have hand luggage with you. I think the cost is £31.
Rare Tapi Posted May 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2017 As mentioned above, you'll be kicked off the ship early in the morning. If you're not interested in doing a post cruise tour around NY that drops you off at the airport, you may want to find out about a day room at a hotel near the airport where you can drop your luggage off and unwind before heading to the airport for your evening flight. May cost you a few hundred dollars, but it will save you sitting at the airport with your luggage for hours. El Abuelo Posted May 25, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2017 We though late disembarkaction meant we could stay in the room and use some ship facilities. As pointed out, not the case. Before 8:30 we were asked to leave the cabin. Clearing customs and immigration took a lot longer for the late departure members in our group, compared with the early ones. My two daughters and their families left the ship at 7:45 - 8 and took 15 minute to get luggage and clear customs & immigration. We left the ship around 9:30, it took us 45 minutes to clear using mobile passport, and my son & family took 95 minutes using traditional passport & paper docs. Yes, in the US, the ship must have a zero count of guests from the previous cruise before they can start boarding new guests. Much easier in Europe. pete98 Posted May 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Clarea, it is my understanding that even B2B cruisers have to get off to achieve the zero. Is that correct? Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Yes, that is the way it's normally done in the US. Occasionally the CPB agents will come on board and the B2B guests don't have to get off, but that is rare. Clarea Posted May 25, 2017 #14 Share Posted May 25, 2017 What are breakfast hours on disembarkation day? Varies, if you post a ship name and itinerary, there may be an "As You Depart" letter posted. Generally, breakfast closes earlier on disembarkation day than other days.

Guess it makes sense, people sell everything. That's something I'll have to store in the back of my head for long layovers.
wolfcathorse Posted May 25, 2017 #16 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Hi Sara We are not cruising from UK we will be in USA in new York cape liberty but I don't see this on the excisions I may have to give RC a call as that would be a good option buying extended stay is only available in Europe (and I'm not sure if it's available on all ships). Since you're in the US, you don't have this option. They try to have everyone off by 9 am. Crew have a lot to do to turn around a ship for the next voyage. You can kill the most time by purchasing an excursion with airport drop off then see if you can buy a day pass into your air carrier's VIP Lounge. Or just get a hotel room, day rate, which will be expensive.

Not sure if you can call RC and find out about it/ request it that way.

sergeant655 Posted May 25, 2017 #21 Share Posted May 25, 2017 If you don't get off by about 9:30-10. they will start calling your name over the pa and will start looking for you. Once the last person leaves. The b2b guests will then be escorted to customs and back. Once that is done. They have the zero count needed to start boarding. .if a person stays behind too long it will be delayed . Newark airport had no luggage storage . If you take the train to penn station in New York there are luggage storage facilities there. When arriving ask a Amtrak employee where it is located. Schwartz luggage is also a few block alway. The one in the station is run by Amtrak

Bobal Posted May 26, 2017 #23 Share Posted May 26, 2017 When we were in this situation we booked a day room close to the Mall at Jersey Gardens and did some great shopping just before we flew home. If you google it and look on google maps you will see there are a number of hotels just over the road from the mall. I would suggest emailing them and asking if they have a day room rate. Whenever we book a day room in the US it usually costs around $90.

They don't throw you off the ship, but out of common courtesy you should be and RCL will have you off the ship by 10:00am, hopefully before that. The next cruisers want to get onto the ship just as you did the first day.
