Voyager Club Points Accrual Question

I am curious about when points are accrued to move up levels in Voyager Club. For example, on our next cruise we get 1500 points for the cruise. We need 1200 to move from Silver to Gold level. Will we get the next level on the cruise, or not until after. Carnival, for example, will credit you at check-in for what level you would be at when the cruise is over. If you are Gold and would have enough nights to be Platinum, they will issue a Platinum card at check-in for that cruise. Not a burning issue. Just curious.

Not until it is over

From the T&Cs

6.7 Points will be credited only if the cruise has been completed. If a member doesnot embark on the cruise, points will not be awarded. If members do not embark onthe cruise, points for pre-board will not be awarded and the cruise will not form partof the calculation of points and the evaluation of status. If the member does not embark, the cruise will not be taken into consideration in the extension of the statusduration. If members do not embark on the cruise, benefits per cabin will not beapplied to the cabin originally occupied by the member or the other occupants of thecabin. In case of cancellation of cruise by MSC please refer to the conditions statedon MSC Cruises website or in the MSC Cruises brochure.

You have to cruise first before your points are allocated.

You also get 100 points for every $/€150 you spend on board. Those will also be added after your return.

It states on the website that the on board spend points accumulated are allocated to the VC member who settles the account. Who receives the points for pre booked spend? Divided or the person who made the booking?

Our post cruise points balance makes no sense....

I can't answer this one as we can't pre-pay for anything on the website - we can only pre-book. The charge is then added to our onboard account, so the allocation of points is straightforward for us. I would assume that the person making the booking would be one regarded as paying so would therefore be entitled to the points. We keep things simple - I make our bookings and register my credit card for all our onboard charges so that only one of us collects the points and not have them split.

I'd be interested in seeing a definitive answer to this question.

When did you disembark? The points for the cruise are usually added on pretty quickly. It takes a week or two more before onboard spend points are added.

I make the bookings and use my card for that reason too (and DH doesn't do admin)! It's the first time we've prepaid for anything, there were a couple of excursions we absolutely wanted and the internet deals were better prebooked/paid.

I've emailed MSC but still await a reply.

We disembarked on 8th July. We were B2B so that should be 2 x sailing points, that hasn't happened either, I don't think....

It seems like enough time for the points to be added from both the cruise and the OBS. They can be a bit slow to respond in the case of Voyagers Club issues. I've waited a couple of weeks before for a response.

They seem to have awarded my DH an extra 200 points for one of our recent cruises - I have no idea why as I keep a record of points we should get and tally that with what we're awarded. We won't quibble. Though, had it been the other way round and he'd been left short ............. that's a different story! :p

I seem to have gotten an extra 100 points for OBS on our last month's cruise - though I may have miscalculated. Some of my OBS relates to casino spend which doesn't qualify for points. I may have added up the account wrong?

Have you got my points :')

I've been allocated 2100 for our recent trip, I should've had a minimum 3000 for 2 x YC 7 night cruises before any additional spending. The 2100 don't tally with any of our spending either....

I didn't get that at first! Then ...................... :D :D :D

(I thought you meant "Do you not get my point?" when first I read it. LOL)

Your allocated points seem more like they're treating your B2B as one 14 night cruise. That would give you 2000 points. I don't know what your OBS would be worth but I can only assume that the other 100 points relates to that.

If this is the case, then they're wrong. B2Bs are treated as separate cruises.

The OBS doesn't tally with 100 points either

I know that they are, you know that they are but do MSC :o

1) I didn't think so!

2) We did a B2B last Oct/Nov and accrued the points for each leg - so they certainly know!

Our post cruise points balance makes no sense....

This is from the T&Cs of the voyager club

Points awarded per cabin

The points will be calculated based on the total amount spent by the member on

prepaid on board services. Points awarded for prepaid on board services that apply

to all cabin occupants will be equally distributed amongst the cabin occupants. For

example, if an excursion is booked for 2 members in the cabin, the points earned on

that excursion would be divided between the two occupants. If only one member is

occupying the cabin, they would receive all the points.

Members cannot claim points distributed to non-members occupying the same cabin

for prepaid on board services that apply to all cabin occupants.

Per single cabin occupant

Points for prepaid on board services paid for by single cabin occupants will be assigned

to those individual members.

The single occupant of the cabin will receive all points earned on their prepaid on

board services.

4.1.3 Benefits are divided into personal benefits and cabin benefits. Personal benefits

are reserved for the member as an individual and are non-transferrable. Cabin benefits

presume the division of the benefits among all the occupants of the cabin (even if

there is more than one member).

All points earned during the cruise will be assigned approximately 10 days after the

end of the cruise.

3.4 Points are always awarded after the cruise and not during the cruise.

Pre-paid services are split between the occupants of the cabin , assuming they are both members, the points do not go to the person paying the bill.

And one more important aspect is that points earned from prepaid items

ARE NOT combined with points earned on board to give a grand total.

So it is perfectly possible to lose out on a few hundred points if for instance the prepaid amount was $155 and the onboard spend was $595

The combined total is $ 750 which would get 500 points.

what you would get in that instance is onboard spend $595 = 300 points ( for$450 )

and 0 points for the prepaid spend, as it will most probably be divided in some way and therefore not reach the required $150 spend for an individual.

Not all items will be divided. my laundry package for instance is accredited entirely to me, whereas the Cirque tickets are divided between the two of us.

In the UK we can prepay for items , I've prepaid my Cirque tickets and a laundry package.

Any prepaid totals which get points are divided between the cabin occupants assuming they are all/both members and not given to he/she who pays the bill it is written clearly in the T&Cs

I'd be interested in seeing a definitive answer to this question. DEFINATIVELY ANSWERED FOR YOU (see the post above)

Thanks, Pete.

I was really interested to read about the points not being tallied for prepaid items with points for onboard spend. That's something to take into consideration when prepaying - especially for those aiming for a higher tier in the Voyagers Club.

Thanks Pete.

And dividing the prepaid points Bea. It's certainly discouraging me from prebooking excursions.

That's one advantage we have in the Republic - we don't pay upfront for anything we pre-book. It goes onto our onboard account so ALL onboard spend gets totalled together. The downside is, though, that we can't book online so don't have the facility to run dummy bookings to check what's available.

Pete has illustrated very well how prepaying can work against you. This is not something I would have encountered. I'll be wary of that, should MSC introduce a policy of prepaying for us. I think, though, that we'd prepay if prebooking thru' a TA. Maybe someone (in Ireland) with experience can answer that one. I only ever prebook online.

I'm in two minds about upgrading a drinks package on one of our bookings for the reason that I don't think we'll get points at all for the extra spend - even if they were to be split. If we wait 'til onboard it would count as OBS. We're only talking 200 points and I reckon I'll have 30000 by year's end, so it doesn't really matter to me. But DH is only on his way to 20000 so any extra points going could go on his account if we have him settle the onboard account in the future. This is in the vain hope that MSC will introduce a new, higher, tier to the Voyagers Club - like they've been promising since I reached Black back in 2014!

Hi Bea et al,

Following this thread is daunting. It reminds me of past experiences with loyalty levels. You have to remember; they keep moving the goal posts! That is just the way things happen, a natural succession. All the major lines have done it. I can remember being "A Founder" of the Celebrity Captains Club. We actually paid $50 to join...:'):'):')...totally worthless!! I keep thinking...what will be the next level for Voyager?? How about the "Paradisio Level"??? LOL!!

My money is on a "Sophia" level as the next level to be added

or

"Purple" (the old imperial colour of the Roman Emperors)

The joke is on us, though, GCT as Voyagers Club is not an MSC exclusive 'loyalty' one! It's a loyalty club to everyone who's been loyal everywhere else as well! clear.png?emoji-mad-1709

To rub salt in the wound, those who sail on Divina (and it'll probably be the same on Seaside) who have Black Cards despite never having sailed MSC before, get a bottle of bubbly for each cabin member if they've both matched to Black. Both myself and DH earned our Black status with payments to MSC for cruises and OBS, but we only get the one bottle every time we sail! clear.png?emoji-frown-1741 We've queried this on numerous cruises with the Cruise Consultant onboard but we're generally contradicted and told that's not the case. We did, however, meet one lovely CC who offered to send another bottle to the cabin. We declined it at the time - we were just trying to get the issued raised.

Neither name would sound very top-tier-ish, Pete. I had thought Platinum because of the Silver and Gold level names, even though they could be construed as colours when put beside the Black. I suppose with it being used elsewhere, MSC won't go with it. Last I heard, they were running a competition for members to choose a name.

Anyway ........whatever it's going to be named - just get on with it and introduce a new tier, MSC!!!!!

As long as they do it on January 1st 2018 and not before the 23rd December ...

You'll be at Black on your Seaside cruise, is that right, Dave? IINM you get there after your upcoming on Preziosa.

Are you afraid of it impacting on the current benefits? I doubt a new level will be introduced by then so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

I wasn't Black for long before Voyagers Club came into being (6 months, actually. But 4 more cruises booked at the time :p) and wiped the 20% discount and champagne off the benefits chart! I'm sure Pete could add to that - they're just the 2 (and best) benefits that spring to mind.

Nice selection Bea! WOW...a little cognac and lemon sour and I could make French 75's all day long!! I think I am liking MSC even better now that I have seen your vast array of bubbly!! Definitely looking forward to my Divina cruise Sept. 30th...in the YC, of course!!
