Randyk47 Posted June 24, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2017 is there a bball goal on the Shadow? any other sport activities? No and not really. Silversea ships generally don't have the open deck space for the sports venues you see on the larger ships.
Rare spinnaker2 Posted June 24, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Suggest you take a look at the deck plan. It will answer a lot of logistics questions. :-)
hlsess Posted June 24, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted June 24, 2017 So what is there to do for the younger set (college age)? Never been on this cruise line before...
Rare spinnaker2 Posted June 24, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2017 A good question. There is a disco late night. The bar is open. There is a gym. One show at night. Other than that? This is a small ship! No giant rock climbing wall. No tennis or sport venues. No slide into pool. Sent from my iPad using Forums
hlsess Posted June 24, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted June 24, 2017 thanks- that's what I thought - their grandmother booked this cruise- guess they can go to bed early - lots of early excursions!!
Rare spinnaker2 Posted June 24, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Lots of conviviality around the ship. As I said the bars are open. Movies in room. Reading? Swimming...water polo games? Yes probably tired from early wake up call. I forgot when you are going. If it's summer in the med it is really hot. Hot is a relative term but it won't be Med warm. :)
hlsess Posted June 24, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted June 24, 2017 yes we board on Thursday - Alaska -coming from the South where it is usually hot and miserable but it has been rainy the last week!! Rare Lois R Posted June 24, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Alaska is one of my all time favorite itineraries:)........hopefully they will be off the ship during the day. There are so many wonderful excursions/places to see/things to do on an Alaskan cruise:).........
MLeh Posted June 25, 2017 #14 Share Posted June 25, 2017 Get off the ship during the day. There are lots of things to do at the ports on this itinerary, even if you don't do official shore excursions. At night, back on board, they can enjoy a good meal, knowing that they can eat as much as they want. It'll be an opportunity to experience fine dining, without the bill at the end. Stumblefoot Posted June 25, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 25, 2017 is there a bball goal on the Shadow? any other sport activities? You do realize you are cruising on a small luxury line correct? There are no bball goals. Sports activities include putt-putt, shuffle board, and pool volleyball. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rare Keith1010 Posted June 25, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 25, 2017 There may be a few organized activities such as golf putting. There is the Fitness Center. None of the luxury lines have basketball courts. Crystal Ships do have Paddle Tennis. I think maybe Regent does too on some of the ships but could be wrong. The good news is there will likely be a lot of kids on board so hopefully they will meet others and they can hang out together. Keith
UPNYGuy Posted June 25, 2017 #18 Share Posted June 25, 2017 I see you have only been on Norwegian and Carnival as per your signature. You may want to go to the Silversea website and view the "life on board" section. Carnival and Silversea are about as different as a Chevy and a Bentley. No sarcasm intended. One is a mass market line. The other is a true, luxury line. Sent from my iPad using Forums
hlsess Posted June 25, 2017 Author #19 Share Posted June 25, 2017 Thx. And yes I know that it is luxury and not like carnival and Norwegian!! My moms taking us all on this cruise! We are looking forward to it. Have things planned at each port!!

Rare Lois R Posted June 25, 2017 #21 Share Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) You are lucky to have such a Mom.Enjoy her and enjoy it. I was thinking the same thing:)........I know every family is different......we went camping when I was a kid;)......the first cruise we took "as a family" was in 1992 for my folks 50th Wedding Anniversary....it was a 3 or 4 nighter (can't remember for sure) but it was a weekend cruise on an old Carnival ship....I believe it was called THE CARNIVALE......now that was a long time ago. We did vacations together just not cruising vacations. Don't worry too much, you won't have a lot of time to play games during the day due to this is a very port intensive cruise. You can spend all day off the ship and play the usual drinking games in the bar. You will definitely like the price of the drinks. Agree most of the town's are small and you can walk them in a couple of hours. Will need to be creative to find things to do in most of those towns. One thing that made the whole trip worthwhile was the helicopter ride to the mountian camp and spend the day dog sledding. Maybe the other was the Scenic train trip to the Canada gold rush area. I've booked us in each port doing something so we will be busy! Whale watching and dog sledding in Juneau, boys fishing in Sitka, Skagway- girls going kayaking in Haines while mom and big girls go on train in Skagway- doing the Misty Fjords trip in Ketchikan.
