lakada Posted June 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We are sailing in the Fantasy August 16. I have just discovered that our cabin below the galley. This cabin is 2x upgrade. How bad is the location?
cvpends Posted June 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2017 You will get many different opinions about your question. I have been under the galley, and didn't find any noise I heard to be bothersome. Others feel differently. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Drrandall Posted June 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We were originally in 2366 on the Breeze for our upcoming July 9th cruise. Heard about the noise. Changed it to 2284.
Tongiejayhawk Posted June 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We wanted to try a cove balcony on the Magic and didn't realize until shortly before sail date that the galley was above it. We thought we'd try it - surely the kitchen staff goes to bed at a decent hour. Wrong! We heard what sounded like chairs/tables being moved around all hours of the night - 1:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., etc. We would even hear things being dropped. Like large stainless steel tubs. My husband is a deeper sleeper than I am so it didn't bother him but we will not book under the galley again, if it can be avoided. Good luck! We were in 2421 Family Harbor suite and could hear loud banging noises and things being dragged across the floor of the galley on most nights. We will never book under the galley again, nor will we book above the casino near where the bands play either. Music till wee hours of the morning. firemanbobswife Posted June 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Only way I would stay in one is if it was totally free, they threw in the Cheers package, and I got $500 OBC. So in other words, it won't happen. Ever.
springs741 Posted June 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2017 The thing about under the galley is you have no way of knowing if it will be a noisy area or not. You can google room numbers or do a search here on Cruise Critic. The best thing is just don't book under the galley.. MDR is fine as usually the rear room is used for breakfast or brunch. DebJ14 Posted June 29, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We once had a cabin under the galley. We got a 4am wake up call every morning with the sound of chopping on stainless steel counters. Never again.
easyboy Posted June 29, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Once our cabin was under the galley. Between 3am and 4am, we are awaken by what sounded like rolling carts moving around.
SadieN Posted June 29, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Where are you located? Under a doorway should be ok. We had galley issues on the Elation and Paradise in an Upper deck cabin. Around 4am woke up hungry to the smell cooking garlic. We thought we'd have issues with the laundry room. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Drrandall Posted June 29, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 29, 2017 So glad I was able to change our cove balcony. I'm looking forward to it this cruise. But I'll probably book a higher balcony next time.
tallnthensome Posted June 29, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 29, 2017 I'd never in a million years have a cabin below the galley.
Purvis1231 Posted June 29, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We paid for an upgrade to the Empress deck on the Ecstasy, right under the galley. All night were heard the banging of pots and pans, etc. Luckily, we were so tired from the activities we were able to sleep. So I would only book it if it were really cheap. schazzy Posted July 1, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 1, 2017 We were in E128 on the Ecstasy back in April, and while it wasn't bad if we went to bed late, but before 10 there was a sound like someone was slamming something into wall every few minutes.
