Dumb things people do that get them kicked off a cruise

Ok I admit it. That was my family.

 

I told the cruise the truth at the time, so now I will admit it to you all.

 

Radiance of the seas last year with my elderly father, servely autistic brother, autistic son.

 

My dad cared for my brother and me my son.

 

My son and I had gone out to one of the islands for a beach day. Had not seen dad of my brother all day. My son and I were in the cabin having an afternoon nap.

 

My father and brother had gone to the island and had decided to use the ships swimming pool. My brother is meant to be toliet trained. He is also non verbal.

 

He was in the pool. Did a poo and then took off his pants and walked around naked on the pool deck.

 

Dad grabbed him whilst others shouted abuse and went and hid in their cabin.

 

He then called me to tell me what had happened.

 

Me and my son went up to the pool deck to find out more. Sure enough everyone we spoke to had something to say.

 

We then went to the customer service desk to talk to them and give our full details including his medical history. Not being there at the time I could only report what I had heard.

 

My father and I were beyond embarrassed. My brother had no concept of what he had done.

 

The head of customer service called me back later on that night. We discussed the incident and my brothers medical history. They thanked me for my honesty.

 

No we were not kicked off the ship but they had every right to do so. I think being honest with them helped our cause as did my brothers condition.

 

My father still has not heard the end of this from me.

 

If my brother was so in continent then he should not have been allowed in the pool at all.

 

My father was responsible for him and should have followed the cruiseships rules.

 

I had no seen them all day and was not impressed by either of their behaviours.

Esilef, I can't imagine how embarrassed you were. I don't think it would have been reasonable for the ship to kick your brother off. After all, he did not do this deliberately. It was very good of you to step up and take responsibility and try to smooth things over. :)

I remember you posting about it at the time, Esilef. The cruise line obviously realised that it wasn't a deliberate act. You acted responsibly, despite your embarrassment. Kudos to you for that. {{{{{hugs}}}}}

We heard, but as has been said you never can be sure, that the reason a security guard was stationed outside a cabin a few doors up from us on Radiance was that a passenger refused to stop smoking in their cabin. Apparently the staff asked them to stop, and they refused and said "what are you going to do about it?" Pack your bags and get off was the reply. Can't be sure it was true.

 

Have also heard like some others have said about people shoplifting and fighting. Some people are so used to our soft justice system at home that they don't stop to wonder if getting put off at the next stop will be worth it.

We were on Pacific Pearl from Syd to NZ and there were some young blokes in a cabin opposite mine and 2 others of ours. One morning when in port (think Wellington) we were in our cabins as we had nothing planned except for lunch and customs/police came knocking at the door. "We need to put the drug dog through your cabin"..... Seems they had already done 6 or so around ours and did a couple more after mine....(no prob for me).

About a day later there was a problem in a cabin that someone we had met had and was subsequently moved to a new cabin opposite ours as it seemed to have "become available".

The young blokes had been smoking/doing drugs and had come to the attention of staff on board and was therefore on the radar. Once the drug dog came on we never saw them again.

Just because you think no one knows doesn’t necessarily mean no one knows!

 

More a stupid thing, not dumb but interesting anyways.

What the hell is laundry rage????? We are doing a transpacific next year and expected to do laundry but now I am afraid. I did some on a Caribbean cruise but was the only person using the machines.

 

We were on Carnival Glory and it was at either Cozumel or Costa Maya and we were sitting on our balcony with drinks waiting for the pier runners to begin their show when we (and everyone else on their balcony) observed two young guys jump off the pier and into the water as they made their way back to the ship, to much cheering from their friends. Security and Carnival staff came a running.

Our departure was delayed and 20 mins later they were escorted off the ship and had to walk past everyone on their balconies and at the deck party heckling the hell out of them.

There is a classic story doing the rounds about a lady who had a rather expensive dress nicked from one of the ships laundries . She notified security and kept an eye open for anyone wear it. Sure enough she saw someone wearing what appeared to be the missing dress notified security and was able to prove the dress was hers - the offender got booted off at the next port.

Very similar story from a couple of years back on Carnival Legend I think.

A lady had her dress stolen from the laundry and saw another lady wearing it up at the Island Night pool party. She went down and got hubby, he came up and confronted the woman and then her hubby stepped in. Argument started, security called, both families confined to cabins and disembarked next port. Mums, Dads and kids making their own way back to Australia.

Personally, I sit in the laundry, wait for my clothes and never had a problem.

I have been down in guest relations and seen clothes flying past the window! After asking GR lady what's going on there security was rapidly called and a husband and wife were evicted as both drunk had had an argument and consequently thrown each other's clothes overboard! Off next port, Maui and we'd only just left Hawaii.

Another couple were also sent off for having a fisticuffs in full view of everyone in the atrium as they were in the glass lifts. Alcohol fuels some nasty incidences.

I sat in the laundry judicially while our clothes were being dried when a lady opened my the dryer I was using and started rifling through my clothes and the clothes basket I was using from our stateroom disappeared in the blink of an eye. I couldn't get out of there fast enough luckily our steward was understanding and replaced the basket.

 

Thankfully our next trip with Princess will be Elite with complimentary laundry and thank goodness we won't have to worry about using the self service facilities on board.

Yeah I yelled at her to get out of my dryer I grabbed my stuff out of it and got out of the joint as fast as I could it was then I noticed the basket was missing. With P&O ships I don't care if the bathroom in the cabin looks like a Chinese laundry I'm not using the self service laundry facilities on board again.

I'd have taken some photos of her rifling through the dryer and waited to see what she did. That way if she tried to steal something you'd have proof.

 

So far I haven't had any problems with the laundries on Princess. Most people have been very friendly.

That incident happened on the Aria and I didn't have the phone or my camera on me at the time although I wish I had it then. The incident was reported to our steward just to cover ourselves.

I remember on my first cruise to the Islands on the old Pacific Sun, a 17 year old male teenager found a lost cruise card and thought it would be a good idea to use it and try his luck in the Casino. Alas his "luck" didn't last long as he was nabbed. He was put ashore on the Isle of Pines along with his parents. I remember when going ashore on the ships Tender and hearing the sound of a helicopter starting up and taking off in the vicinity of the local Gendarme station, which is near the tender wharf, and thought they must be doing joy flights. It turned out it was a police helicopter taking the family back to Noumea for transport back home to Aussie. I bet mummy and daddy were not impressed.

I overheard a passenger recounting how she got her revenge on another passenger who jumped the queue in the laundry for a dryer...she went directly to the shop on board and purchased a chocolate bar which she merrily unwrapped and place into the queue jumpers dryer...

Sounds like a good way to get yourself thrown off the ship!

 

We loved having the laundry on the Coral Princess when we went to Vancouver. We are early risers... just went started the laundry before breakfast. Moved it after. Went and got it when it was done. We don't really have any expensive clothes worth stealing though... mostly we were doing underwear, PJs, a couple of shirts and jeans.

I was on the Rhapsody of the Seas from Honolulu to Sydney and there was a family, grandparents, two sisters and husbands as well as a few children. One of the sisters was a look at me, look at me type of person. Walked around the ship wearing clothes that belonged at a Miss Universe contest. She liked to flirt with men at the bars to make her husband jealous but one night he had had enough and the cabin was wrecked. I think they were put off at Suva.
