allanna Posted July 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2017 Our first cruise (May 2017) was a 14 day NOTS from the UK to the Med, (Gibraltar, Rome,Barcelona, Florance etc) We live in Greece and had to fly to the UK for a depart from Southampton. A pain and expensive but added to the adventure, We loved the ship and the environment it provided for us both. The disadvantage we found were the amount of days at sea.(yes ok we should have checked this prior) but this being our first cruise we trusted our instincts and hoped for a good time. We have now got the cruise bug. We do not need to do the Greek islands as we can just hop on the local ferry any time for a visit. Any suggestions for cruises from Athens to the rest of the world? Biker19 Posted July 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2017 Try one from Venice that misses Greek ports.
crystalspin Posted July 15, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Allanna -- in the Cruise Critic banner on any page, cruise "Find a Cruise". Put in one of the two Athens ports. It will bring up 15 best cruises from that port. Each has a drop down Itinerary button. Do for the other Athens port. Many (more than half!) feature many or all Greek isles, but some focus on Croatia and neighbors, and some on Italy. Good luck!

kbklcamp Posted July 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2017 You could embark from Barcelona. That'd be great. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

George C Posted July 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2017 We did 12 day cruise from Barcelona last year, with only 3 sea days ( would have liked more) 5 stops in Italy, Croatia, Kotor and France
allanna Posted July 15, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Thanks for all the replies and information. Departure from Barcelona seems a good idea, bit nearer to fly from Greece. George C ...which cruise line and which ports in Italy?
Biker19 Posted July 15, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Departure from Barcelona seems a good idea, bit nearer to fly from Greece. Yes, but, it will likely repeat many of the ports you already experienced on your last sailing.
allanna Posted July 15, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Must agree with you Biker19, Maybe we should try to fly further a-field for a departure port but that would only increase the cost of our holiday. 4 hours to the UK then another 9 hours to USA then transport to the departure port. Caribbean sounds awesome and I am sure the trip would be worth it but we would have to add an extra 4/5 days air travel. Still thinking about places. Getting out there Posted July 15, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Sorry to jump in here, but I can't figure out how to start a new thread. I'm thinking of doing a transition cruise on Adventure from Miami to Puerto Rico. I've read in the past that transition cruises seem to water down the cruise. Has anyone done a cruise like this? Has Adventure done this cruise?

Biker19 Posted July 15, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 15, 2017 ^ that is a good itinerary even if some of the W Med ports repeat OP's previous sailing.
allanna Posted July 16, 2017 Author #14 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Thanks for all the help ( Biker19 and George C ) We were expecting another cruise this year but due to urgent family hospital problems this has now been put on the back burner. MIL is in hospital and the results do not seem good so my loving wife has to care for her for the next few months. Still have our 100 $ casino chip from the Navigator burning a hole in my pocket, lets wait and see. Regards
