edgee Posted July 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Manhattan cruise terminal website says that we must park our car and then bring luggage from car to drop it off prior to check in for our cruise. We have several large bags for a long cruise. Are there luggage carts or porters available to help take luggage from our car to drop off location? Or do we have to wheel it ourselves to drop off location without assistance from carts or porters?
njhorseman Posted July 15, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Sometimes there are porters in the parking lot, particularly if you're parking your car fairly early while passengers are still disembarking and using porters to take their luggage to their cars. However you can't count on porters being available up there and most of the time we just wheel or bags to the elevator and then give our luggage to a porter when we get down to the check in level. marco Posted July 15, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2017 It's been a couple of years since we've parked and sailed out of Manhattan but I don't recall porters up on the parking deck. Things may be different now and someone who has parked quite recently can chime in. But you can stop right by the elevator, unload the luggage and one passenger, go park, then meet that passenger and your luggage and take the elevator down. Once down, there should be porters to assist.

We managed to find a cart on the last one, a first for us. We only take luggage that we can handle ourselves.

Yes, there are porters up on the parking deck at times, but it's usually because they just happened to be up there after bringing a disembarking passenger's luggage to their car. lucyd Posted August 6, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 6, 2017 How do we know which pier the Viking SKy uses? Also when we drop off luggage, how do the porters direct it to our ship -- will we be given luggage tags in advance?

You won't know in advance which pier the ship will be using. Viking Sky isn't a ship that regularly departs from Manhattan. You'll find out when you arrive at the cruise terminal. Your cruise line should be issuing luggage tags to you along with the rest of your boarding documents, but if they don't a porter at the pier can tag your bags.
